HAVE YOUR CAKE AND

EAT ITAn exciting opportunity to grow a successful business

Page 2: Prospectus 2014 2015

Established in 2005, Kiddy Cook was created to provide children and young people with the opportunity to get cooking. We want positive, lasting change for children and young people and believe that if we give them the opportunity to get cooking they’re more likely to try the results. If we can encourage our children to try good, healthy food then we can change the way they eat for life, as well as giving them skills they can use again and again.

Kiddy Cook is now being delivered throughout the UK by a team of enthusiastic and skilled individuals. Our franchisees come from a variety of backgrounds including marketing, advertising, broadcasting, banking and retail. They all have the same characteristics in common: they have integrity, a love of working with children, enthusiasm and ambition to grow a successful business and belief that food and cooking is a skill for life.

“I became a Kiddy Cook franchisee in April 2012 and I haven’t looked back since. The support I have received from Nikki and the

other franchisees has been brilliant and they have helped guide me along the path to running a successful and busy business”

Kate Faulkner, Kiddy Cook North Staffordshire

Founder and Director, Kiddy Cook Franchising Ltd

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?We all know how important it is that children get a good, balanced diet. We also know that if children are encouraged to help out in the kitchen they’re more likely to try the results. That’s why Cheshire mum Nikki Geddes set up Kiddy Cook in 2005; to provide fun cooking activities for children of all ages, to get children interested in food and cooking and to teach them skills they can use again and again.

Our classes are full of imaginative ideas and are all about teaching children and young people about the joys of food.

KIDDY COOKKiddy Cook classes for children 4 -11 years are designed to teach children about food and nutrition in a fun way, as well as giving them a taste of independence as they prepare their own food from scratch.

COOKIE TOTSCookieTots classes for preschool children are structured to enable parents to have fun with their kids in the kitchen. Parents help their toddler to make everything from muffins to main meals and join in with games and activities based around food and cooking.

BABY COOKBaby Cook classes are designed to stimulate the senses and encourage a positive attitude towards food.

GET STUFFEDGet Stuffed classes for young people up to 18 years show them how to cook healthy, delicious meals that fit in with their lifestyle. From vegetarians to flexitarians they’ll have the freedom to create food they’ll love and will be equipped to make healthier food choices in the future.

“If we encourage our children to help out in the kitchen they’re

more likely to try the results and if we can encourage our children to try good, healthy food then we can change the way they eat for life as well as giving them skills they can use again and again”

Nikki Geddes, Kiddy Cook Founder

Children like getting messy in the kitchen, but there’s more to us than chocolate rice crispy cakes! Children who come along to a Kiddy Cook party don’t just get to make a cake, they get to conduct a ‘volcano’ experiment to learn how carbon dioxide works to make their cakes and biscuits rise. They learn the difference between taste and flavour and think about the effect sound has on their ability to eat.

Frances Webster, Kiddy Cook Norwich

I set up the Norwich Franchise of Kiddy Cook in April 2010 and have been really pleased with how my business has grown and developed. I now run a business I am passionate about and am part of a brilliant franchise which gives me the comfort of a level of support. I started the franchise while my family were very young (my daughter was under one and my son was two) and have been able work around them to develop it in a way that I wanted and to a level I had not planned or expected.

As of September 2014 Kiddy Cook Norwich teaches an average of over 200 children a week during term time (and once a term an additional 240 pupils over a 2 week period for the Norfolk Food Discovery Project). Kiddy Cook Norwich is now a team of seven people (who run sessions for me on varying regularity) as I cannot possibly cope with the volume of work on my own.

Right from the outset I have been impressed with Nikki Geddes and the Kiddy Cook concept.

Kiddy Cook is unlike any other children’s franchise businesses and it is this unique model which enables it to be successful. One of the key factors I most like about the Kiddy Cook franchise is its model with the various components But more importantly to me is the flexibility of the model and how each franchisee can tailor their offering to their own interests, skill-set and locality.

As with setting up any new business (particularly in the midst of a recession) success will come to those who put in the hours, network well, seek new opportunities, adapt to changing conditions and know how to channel their efforts to be most profitable. The Kiddy Cook model allows the franchisees to develop their business how they want and is not over prescriptive with what you can and can’t do, which gives a unique opportunity. I can honestly say that I have never regretted for a moment setting up Kiddy Cook Norwich.

Setting up a children’s cookery business after a career in investment banking was a huge leap of faith. But I can’t believe that I am nearly four years in and what a great experience it has been on so many levels.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS - WHY JOIN OUR TEAM?

I started my franchise in 2009, after being out of business life for over a year, having my son. I was really excited to be setting up a new business, but also absolutely terrified to not only be going back to work, but also because I was doing it on my own, with the success or failure of it being solely down to me.

I needn’t have worried, however, as the support I got from Nikki Geddes, the franchise owner, was completely invaluable. She was there with help, advice and support, whenever I needed it, from the initial training and resources to all the questions I asked on a very regular basis.

When I started out, I thought Cookie Tots would be really popular. However, it became apparent reasonably early on that Kiddy Cook and schools were the more popular sessions, and also provided the better margins.

So I changed my strategy and now, nearly five years on, I only concentrate on Kiddy Cook. I run after school sessions, holiday clubs, parties and ad hoc school sessions.

I absolutely love it and I am working the hours I want to, and am realising the profit targets I set myself. There are still a lot of opportunities for me to explore as and when I decide to do so.

As with any business, you need to work hard, seek out new business constantly, be creative and come up with new ideas and be willing to be flexible. However, in my experience, the rewards are there if you look for them.

I would recommend it to anyone who is serious

about making a success of their own business

but is in need of a helping hand to get going

ENTHUSIASM

& AMBITION

All our franchisees are different. However, there are certain skills, personal attributes and experience that we look for in ALL our franchisees. These are: integrity, a love of working with children, enthusiasm and ambition to grow a successful business and the belief that food and cooking is a skill for life.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN YOU

INTEGRITY

LOVE WORKING WITH CHILDREN

To give you an idea of the potential income from your Kiddy Cook classes we’ve put together some example projections (based on actual trading figures).

Gross Income

Overheads Operating profit

£45,422 25,052 20,37016,275 7,089 9,18611,362 3,806 7,556

To see how these projections stack up in detail, you will need to get in touch and we can discuss them in more detail and answer any questions you may have.

The legal bit:

It is important to emphasise that the above figures are projections provided for the purpose of illustration and are not intended to be a statement, representation, warranty or guarantee of individual franchise earnings. Your success will largely be down to the amount of effort and time that you put in and you should expect it to take a while to become established.

It is essential that prior to entering into the franchise, you satisfy yourself of the value of the investment you intend to make in terms of both time and money.

These costs do not include your ongoing franchise management fee or any other business costs.

FINANCIALLY REWARDING

At the end of my first financial year I turned over

£16,000. At the end of my fourth financial year

(April 2014) I will have turned over approximately

£50,000, which I am thrilled with ’’

Q: I could run cooking classes for children myself, why should I become a Kiddy Cook franchise owner?

Kiddy Cook was founded almost ten years ago and since that time the programme has been tested, refined and developed to an incredibly high standard.

The business has a strong brand and as one of our franchisees you would benefit from an extensive range of marketing material to allow you to launch and promote your business successfully. In addition you would receive in-depth training before launching your business and the ongoing support of an experienced team. And you would benefit from the collective knowledge and experience of the other franchise owners.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What do I get for my management fee?

Continuous help, support and advice from Head Office on the development and growth of your business, web hosting and maintenance of your web page, performance management remotely and through annual visits and ongoing product development.

Q: What do you do with my marketing levy?

Your marketing levy is used to support Kiddy Cook Marketing campaigns and PR. This will be used for marketing collateral and face to face events and exhibitions around the country.

Q. What is covered in training?

Your initial training is in Hale, Cheshire with the founder of Kiddy Cook, Nikki Geddes. Training takes place over two days and one in your home office where you complete a number of set tasks in preparation for your launch. One day of training is practical covering all aspects of delivering the programme. You will also have the opportunity to observe Kiddy Cook ‘in action’, peer teach and to teach a group of children.

We also have a franchisee mentor based at Head Office to intensively support your first three months of business. This includes helping you develop your business plan, weekly phone calls and emails to help you set your goals, review your progress and strategies and generally offer you support.

The initial franchise agreement is for 7 years.

Q: What happens if I want to sell the business?

You are able to sell the business at any point within your contract term. Having notified us as franchisors that you wished to sell the business it would be independently valued. Yes, providing you follow the Kiddy Cook class leader application process and they are fully DBS checked.

Q: I am interested in becoming a franchisee, what should I do?

Please call us for an initial chat over the phone.
