OpManager - Overview

OpManager is a complete, end-to-end network monitoring software that offers advanced fault and performance management functionality across critical IT resources such as routers, WAN links, switches, firewalls, VoIP call paths, physical servers, virtual servers, domain controllers & other IT infrastructure devices

Initial Analysis

The following are the factors that will be looked into during initial analysis

Existing infrastructureNumber of network devices and interfacesNumber of servers, virtual devices, other types of devices and applications.StorageNumber of locationsConnectivity between the locationsHigh availability needsPlugins required etc.

Page 7: Proof of Concept Guide for ManageEngine OpManager

System Requirements

The above recommendations are made using default polling intervals. Results depend on the number of monitored interfaces and the polling interval configured for each monitor.

Deployment

Sample deployment with the all the inputs observed during initial analysis will be carried out.

Discovery

OpManager automatically discovers all devices in the network and classifies them as routers, servers, desktops, switches etc.

Device discovery can be performed in three ways.•Using IP Ranges - Lets you discover within the specified IP range.•Using CIDR(Classless Inter-domain Routing) - Lets you discover complete network•Using CSV File Import - You can import a set of IP addresses for discovery from a csv file.

Configuration

OpManager can be configured to pro-actively monitor the critical parameters in the managed devices and also to notify the administrator about the fault detected in the network.

Page 16: Proof of Concept Guide for ManageEngine OpManager

Customization

You can customize OpManager to suit your environmental needs (Custom Dashboard, Custom Monitors, Custom Templates and more)

Setting thresholds

In OpManager, thresholds can be configured for monitoring various parameters on a device like CPU, Memory, Interface Traffic, Server Temperature etc. OpManager will alert you ahead of any impending network faults.

Notification alerts

When a fault is detected in your network, an event occurs and multiple events correlate to trigger an alarm. You can configure OpManager to notify the network administrator or perform automatic actions based on the alarm raised for a device.

The different types of notifications available are:Email AlertsSMS AlertsWeb AlertsRun a ProgramRun a System CommandLog a Ticket (Trouble ticketing in ServiceDesk Plus)
