• The majority of the nation’s dropouts attend a small sub-set of its middle and high schools

The Challenge is Concentrated
A small set of high schools drives the nation’s dropout crisis, costing society too much money and wasting young minds.
About 1,600 high schools produce half of the nation’s dropouts.
Those schools currently are not designed to help kids off track succeed – there are too many needy kids and not enough resources.

Early Identification
Diplomas Now is based on research by the nation’s leading dropout expert who found that a sixth grader with even one of the following Early Warning Indicators (EWI) was 75 percent more likely to drop out of high school:

Serving more than 100 schools, reaching more than 76,000 students nationwide
Serves as lead partner and operator in multiple sites nationwide

Talent Development has demonstrated 5 point increases in Average Daily Attendance, 8 point increases in academic curriculum completion and 8 point increases in 10th grade promotion, improving likelihood of graduation by 8 points (MDRC 2005 study).
Communities In Schools has demonstrated up to 5 point increase in graduation for high implementing school sites (ICF study).
City Year has demonstrated increases in improving on-track attendance (50% of students went from chronic truancy to above 90% ADA) and literacy achievement (90% increase in raw literacy score improvement).

Getting off-track students back on track: The progress of students flagged with an off track indicator prior to the final marking period of the 2011-2012 school year in the twelve Diplomas Now i3 schools.
Overall Success : Average percentage of students who stayed on track and those who got back on track in Diplomas Now i3 schools over the 2011-2012 school year.

Importance of the i3 Study
Diplomas Now is implementing the largest national Randomized Control Trial (RCT) of secondary school reform in the country
