As part of the Comenius project we are involved in a project of the Centre for Civic Education -
Young Citizen. Its aim is to explore social capital in our city and later use the results of the
research in our own project.
What and why?
BeginningAt the beginning we arranged
meetings and talked on various topics related to the places and
institutions that work for the city.
Beginning
The list of institutions and places.

Further workAfter that, we carried out surveys in different places and institutions. We talked with the people who work
there .
Further work
We presented the results of our
study on a map. We marked on it symbolic as well
as dangerous places and those
where people help each other and where decisions
are made.

Aim of our projectAs a result of the interviews, we found out that in our city there
aren’t enough initiatives to commemorate the most important people. That's why we decided to
change it. We want to commemorate Professor Michael
Langiewicz . He was the first headmaster of our school. He also
received the medal of the Righteous Among the Nations for having saved Jews during World
War II.
Interviews - PTTKOne of the institutions that
could help us in the implementation of the project
is the Polish Society of Tourism (PTTK). Working for
PTTK expands your knowledge about your own region, often thanks to your assistance in
organizing games or competitions, or designing
commemorative paths. That is why we thought that the
people working there, being experienced in such activities, could help us in our project.
Interviews - Museum
Another institution is the Museum of Western Mazovia . In our interview we
learned that the museum is mainly visited either by elderly people
interested in history, or by organized groups of schoolchildren, more rarely
by young people. At the museum operates the Collectors Club, whose members are mainly elderly people.
During the club meetings, the members talk about their acquisitions and exchange them. They may have
information about professor Langiewicz and can help us in the project.

Interviews - Society of Friends of Żyrardów
The next organization that we chose is the Society of Friends of Żyrardów. During
meetings, its members talk about historic buildings, events and people who once did something worthy of respect and what we
should commemorate. The Society of Friends of Żyrardów wants the residents
of our city to become interested in its history, because it is really worth
exploring. After the interview, we thought that these people may have a lot of
information that would be useful to us in our project and they could be willing to
help us in its implementation.

WorkshopsRecently we have taken part in workshops for the whole group
involved in the project. Thanks to the workshops we are now ready to
work on our ideas and begin to implement our project .
