Business CardDescription: A real or made up company’s business card created by students.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe In-Design

Date: November 09, 2013

Course: Comm 130, section 02

Instructor: Julie Peterson

Objectives: Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logoto fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use yourprevious designs. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.Use your new logo to design two stationery items with consistent design.Business card: 3.5 x 2 (print above center on a vertical page). Apply typographyrules keeping small copy. Learning to keep thing simple by having watermarksand drop shadows light and white space. Applying contact information: Includename, address, phone, and e-mail on each piece. Use periods, bullets, orspaces in phone number, no parentheses or hyphens.

Process: I made my business card by using the rectangle tool to make a 2 x 3.5in rectangle. Then I placed the logo on one of the rectangles with the contactinformation. I also used the line of the letterhead I created, so there would be

a repetition of design principles. On the other side of the business card I filledit with the same pink of my lines and copied the “O” and the diamond frommy logo and pasted on the other side of the card. I changed its stoke to white, centered the object and saved my files. Finally I placed my business card in8.5×7 document in In-Design to enlarge its view.

LetterheadDescription: A real or made up company’s letterhead created by students.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe In-Design

Date: November 09, 2013

Course: Comm 130, section 02

Instructor: Julie Peterson

Objectives: Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logoto fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use yourprevious designs (don’t use photos or live trace in your new logo). Designconsistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use your new logo todesign two stationery items with consistent design. Letterhead: 8.5 x 11 (full-bleed optional, but trim only .125). Apply typography rules keeping small copy.Learning to keep thing simple by having watermarks and drop shadows lightand white space. Applying contact information: Include name, address, phone, and e-mail on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number, noparentheses or hyphens.

Process: First I created the logo for the company I had invented on Illustrator.I used the design principles to make the logo appealing and professional. I

made a diamond or some type of jewel on top of the “O” by using the polygontool. Using the pen tool I modified the “J” and “R” so its lines would align with the diamond place on the “O”. Then I created the pink line to give somecontrast on the letterhead and wrote my contact information above it, aligning it

with the logo.

BrochureDescription: A personally created folded brochure.

Programs: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator

Date: December 7, 2013

Course: Comm 130, section 02

Instructor: Julie Peterson

Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an originalcompany logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Oneshould be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the textfollows the cutout shape of the image. Write at least 250 words of original copy

with at least three paragraphs. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process: First I set up the measurements for the fold in Adobe InDesign andadded the text on, each paragraph got its own text box. Then I edited thepictures that were going to bet text wrapped in Adobe Photoshop. I madea selection around the person on each photo, then I refined the selection, making the selection more professional and clean. After, I made a new layerof the selection with a mask so when I inserted the picture in my InDesign

document I could text wrap it around the alpha channels. I also took out allthe hyphenation from the text, to incorporate a more professional look to it.I repeated the design by having orange, black, white and gray as the brochurecolors. Then I added the big number and aligned the text accordingly. I alsocreated black and orange rectangles in the back, from and inside of brochure. Finally I used transparency for the picture in the back of the brochure, numbers on the inside and applied a drop shadow on some elements.

Web PageDescription: A web page design to showcase a logo personally created.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Text Wrangler, Firefox and Adobe Photoshop

Date: November 23, 2013

Course: Comm 130, section 02

Instructor: Julie Peterson

Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Writecontent to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals toa target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo andcontent. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS. Identify hex colorsfor web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.Open your HTML page in a web browser, take a screen shot, and place the.png on a 8.5 x 11 page and print in color. Keep . 5 inch margins on top andsides, with bottom margin at least .5 inch. Print on a portrait style page. Makesure it is a quality print with legible text.

Process: First I created a project folder to place all my documents. Using Text Wrangler, I created a HTML file for this web page, which gave me a basicstructure of what my site would look like. I also indented the information in

my HTML so it would be easier to read. In order to add the image to my site,I re-sized a logo that I created for my stationery project and saved it as a .pngfile into my project folder. Then I used a tag in my HTML to link the logopicture to the site. I wrote out the process and pertinent information neededin my site. Then I linked the HTML with CSS by using a tag. In Photoshop Iused the eyedropper tool to pick the HEX colors from my logo to use in mysite. I adjusted the padding between listed items, paragraphs and headings, sothey would all left align and have appropriate distance from each other. FinallyI centered my image in CSS so it would center align with the title.

Event AdDescription: A full bleed event ad promoting a fundraiser, made on Microsoft

Word with a high quality scanned picture.

Programs: Microsoft Word

Date: October 11, 2013

Course: Comm 130, section 02

Instructor: Julie Peterson

Objectives: Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleeddesign. Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Process: I scanned a picture of flowers which you can see at the end of thispost. Then while using word, I deleted its background so I would only havethe flowers. Since the picture cut already off part of the petals I decided toplace it on the corners of my ad. To give contrast I made a box at the bottomof the page and played around with the fill options. I choose a fill that lookedlike wood. To contrast that I made my text white and my title black. Finally Ialigned my white text with the “F” in the word flower.
