    PROJECTSProject 1 :

    People and plants need the sun to live. We aregoing to demostrate it.

    Materials

    - A cardboard box. - Scissors.- Soil. - A small pot.- Four dry beans. - Adhesive tape.

    Procedure

    1. Turn the box in a maze. Cut several holes in

    the separations and one more on the top of the box.

    2. Put some soil into the pot and sow thebeans. Water it and put the pot on thecorner of the box.

    3. Close the box and put the adhesive tape.The sunlight must come in through the holeon the top of the box.

    4. You must open the box each two or three

    days to water the plant. You must continuedoing the same during two weeks.

    Project 2 :

    Do you know how much rain in your city? Thispluviometer will give you the answer.

    Materials

    - Plastic see-through bottle.- Scissors

    -

    Tape measure or adhesive tape and a ruler.- Thermometer.- Notebook and a pencil.

    Procedure

    1. Cut 1/3 of the bottle.2. Put the piece of the bottle down into the other

    part of the bottle in order to make a kind of funnel.

    3. Measure the height of the bottle. Cut andstick the tape measure into the bottle. If youhave not a tape measure, make one with a

    ruler.4. Look for a place outside. Make a hole and putthe pluviometer into it. Put some stonesaround it.

    5. Look the pluviometer when it rains. Writedown how much rain has fallen?

    6. Write down in a notebook the results duringone year and make a grafic.

    Project 3 :

    Water can change from one state to another. Itcan be solid, liquid and gaseous. What is theevaporation? Find out yourself.

    Materials

    - Measure spoons. - A small bottle.

    -

    Two dessert plates. - A plate.- Two small towels. - A hair dryer.

    Procedure

    1. Put 25 ml of water (two spoons) in eachdessert plate. Put one in a sunny place and theother one in the shade. Whats happened tothe water in the shade? And to the water inthe sun? Why?

    2. Put 25 ml of water in the centre of the smalltowels. Put one on the table and take theother one in mid-air. Switch on the hair dryer

    and dry the second towel. Which towel willget dry first? Why?3. Now put 25 ml of water (two spoons) and put

    it on a plate. Put 25 ml into a bottle. Put theplate and the bottle together during two orthree hours. Whats happened? Why?

    Project 4 :

    We are going to visit gardens or woods in orderto know the flowers and plants which live there.

    You must look for leaves similar to thefollowing one, take a sample and stick on yournotebook with tape adhesive.

    Materials

    - Notebook.- Scissors- Adhesive tape.

    Procedure

    1. Cut only a sample of each kind of leaf.2. Put the sample on your noteboook withadhesive tape.

    3. Describe the shape of each leaf. Pay attentionto the leafs general appearance and to itsedge: smooth, wavy or serrated.

    Project 5 :

    We are going to make an acuascope toobserve the bottom of a river or a small lake.

    Materials

    - A plastic tube or a bucket without the

    bottom.- A bottom of plastic. It must be hard andtransparent.

    - Gum or adhesive tape.

    Procedure

    1. We take the tube and stick the newtransparent bottom.

    2. We use it to observe the animals which liveat the bottom of a small lake or a river.

    Project 6 :

    A classromm press.

    Materials

    - Two pieces of plywood. (28 x 30 x 2,5 cm).- Four strips for the sides of the plywood. (30 x 2 x 1cm).- Four screws (14 x 0,8 cm). - Eight wingnuts.- Absorbent paper or newspapers.

    Procedure

    1. We must put one piece of wood at thebottom.

    2. We will put a page of a newspaper orabsorbent paper on the wood.

    3. We must place the leaf on the page. 4. We should make a label to identify the plant.

    5. We have to put another absorbent paper onthe leaf.

    6. We can place all the leaves we want. 7. We must change the papers each two or three

    days because if not the leaves could rot.

    GAMES

    Game 1:We are going to give our pupils the beginning

    of a sentence such as: I went to the planetarium and saw .... They have to remember in the correct orderseveral planets that we will show with flashcards.The pupil or team who remembers most planets inthe correct order is the winner. Through constantrepetition, this game provides practice in theirregular past tense of see and vocabulary itemsconnected with the planets.

    Game 2:

    We are going to write down on the blackboard

    the word water. We can ask our pupil about wordsrelated to water. Next we put them on theblackboard and form a diamond shaped poem wherewater words are graded so as to merge, e.g.:

    Game 3:

    I spy is an old and simple vocabulary game, but

    it is really effective. A pupil says: I spy with my littleeye something beginning with A/B/C/... (any letter).Others guess what the object is. The object must bevisible in the room or in a wall picture. Instead of using I spy we can use the following rhyme: One,two, three, What can I see?, Something in thisclassroom, beginning with A/B/C/... (any letter)..

    All the words must be related with the water,the Earth, the flora or the fauna.

    Another game is when a child says a word andthe next child has to say another word beginning

    with the last letter of the first word in the game. E. g.Banana Apple

    Game 4:

    This game is called: looking for food.

    First of all we have to make eight cards toidentify.

    1. We must cut two cards of each color (5 x 10cm) and then cut eight pieces of thread of 60

    cm of length.2. The players close the eyes before beginning

    the game and chose one card to determinewhat animal they will be: carnivore (redcard), herbivore (blue card), omnivore(yellow card) or a plant (green card).

    3. The players must put the card around theirnecks.

    4. The players must run away. They have tolook for food depending on what kind of animal they are. The children who are plantscan only hide from the others.

    5. The last plant or animal who get survive willbe the winner.
