.RENEWABLE ENRGYRenewable energy is energy that can get replenished, that energy is: wind, solar and hydro power.Wind: Wind power can be used to power wind turbines which produce electricity, modern wind turbines produce from 600 kW TO 5 MW of power, the power generated depends on the wind speed so as the wind speed increases, the power output also increases.Wind turbines are placed where wind is stronger such as offshore and high altitude sites(sites where wind turbines are placed are call wind farms).Offshore wind speeds average ~90% greater than the wind speed on land, so that means offshore wind turbines can produce alot more energy than land wind turbines.Solar: Solar energy is harnessed using technologies such as solar heating, solar architecture, concentrated solar power, photovoltaic and artificial photosynthesis.Solar technologies are characterized as either passive solar or active solar depending on the way they capture solar energy. Passive solar includes orientating buildings o the Sun, using materials with favorable tthermal mass and light dispersing properties.Active solar technologies encompass solar thermal energy, using solar collectors and solar power, converting sunlight into electricity either using photovoltaics or concentrated solar power.Photovoltaic systems convert light into electrical direct current by taking advantage of the photoelectric effect.Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.Hydropower: Since water is 800 times denser than air, energy from water can be harnassed. There are many forms of water energy:Hydroelectric energy, Micro hydro and run-of-the-river hydroelectricity systems.Hydroelectric energy is a term for large hydroelectric dams. The largest of which is the Three Gorges Dam in China.Micro hydro systems are installations that produce up to 90-100 kW of power. They are often used in water areas such as a remote-area-power supply.Run-of-the-river(ROTR) hydroelectricity systems derive kinetic energy from rivers and oceans. There is also Wave power that uses the ocean waves and tidal power for generating energy of tides.
