New This Year - Transition!

We’re proud of the many classes and events

for young people at SUUS, and the ways in

which families are included in the life of this

congregation. SUUS is a wonderful

community in which to raise children.

And, as the needs and concerns of families

change, we must continually re-evaluate how

we seek to meet those needs.

This year, SUUS has a staff transition in

religious education, which can be a valuable

opportunity to look closely at our

programming and family needs. For just this

year, we have a Transitional DRE, to help us

maintain the programming from past years

while we prepare to move religious education

at SUUS into the future.

Please join us! Watch for ways to participate,

and please share your thoughts and feedback

about anything that is (or is not) happening

this year. There are also many ways you can

volunteer to support SUUS religious education

programming.

To learn more about our programming and this

transitional year, and how you can get

involved, contact the Transitional Director of

Religious Education, Ann Kadlecek, or the RE

Committee chair, Benna Lehrer.

Welcome!

Welcome to an exciting year of religious

growth and exploration at Shoreline

Unitarian Universalist Society (SUUS)! We

are dedicated to love, faith, justice and reason.

And we are glad you’re here!

Children and youth are valued members of

the SUUS community, and our program is rich

in offerings for all - including Sunday morning

classes, worship experiences, service

opportunities, social events and even an

orchestra! There is something for children

and youth every Sunday!

Check the whiteboard when you

arrive on Sunday for the plan for

the day!

Childcare

We offer childcare for infants, toddlers and

preschool-age children from 10:00 to

11:45am on Sunday mornings. Parents and

caregivers can request childcare at other

times, to support their participation in the life

of the congregation.

Sunday Morning Classes (September – May)

Most Sundays 10:30-11:45

World of Wonder – A caring community for

older preK – grade 1, in which children

begin to make meaning of the language our

Unitarian Universalist faith and life’s

questions. The class incorporates stories,

imaginative activities, games, experiences of

wonder, and UU rituals. During the fall, the

class has an environmental focus and will go

outside when possible.

URUU - Children in grades 2-5 use stories

and interactive, hands-on activities to

explore Unitarian Universalism, including

our Principles and Sources, traditions,

history and values.

Neighboring Faiths – For grades 6-9, this is

an experiential comparative religions class,

which includes both group learning and

visits to a wide variety of faith communities.

Other Opportunities for Children and Youth

Times for all Ages – Every Sunday,

children and youth join the first 15 minutes

of the worship service, for a story or other

message that intentionally includes young

people.

Multigenerational Worship Services are

held periodically, and children and youth

are encouraged to attend with their families.

Social Justice Sundays - Periodically,

children and youth join together to learn

about a social justice issue and make a

difference.

Social Events – Join us

for the Halloween

party, Mystery Pen Pals,

caroling and more!

SUUS Orchestra –

Interested musicians of all ages join

together under the direction of Nate

Pawelek to provide music for several

worship services during the year.

Our Whole Lives (OWL) - This sexuality

and values program returns in 2019-20.
