CRIME | 90’

Solveig Karlsdottir, the successful crime novelist, leaves the capital Reykjavik behind for the first time in years. She travels back to her homeland, a small fishing village in the West of Iceland where she has to look after her demented mother. Once there, it is not only old friends and acquaintances she bumps into, but also a mysterious death. Early in the morning, she is the first to discover a corpse that had been washed ashore into the harbour. It is Jon Sigurdsson, a local fisherman. What irritates her most, is the way the locals just dismiss his death as an accident.

Maybe there is a murder behind this case. But why does no one really want to know? Solveig’s curiosity and her fine-tuned senses keep her wide-awake. Although faced with fierce opposition, she decides to begin her own research, which makes her a thorn in the side for both the local police and the inhabitants. But when the fishery company’s director is found murdered, the locals are convinced it is her fault and she decides to return to Reykjavik. But it is not only her mother who prophesied that her visit to her homeland is not yet over. All of nature’s powers seem to be holding her back …

CRIME | 90’

Crime novelist Solveig Karlsdottir has sworn never to interfere in any criminal proceedings again – until Reyjkjavik’s elf representative Isolda Thorsdottir is found shot in her beloved elf park. Solveig, who coincidentally arrives at the crime scene at the same time as Chief Inspector Finsen, discovers little Yrsa there, too. The distraught girl obviously witnessed the crime and from now on wraps herself in complete silence.

She only appears to have trust in Solveig, but will Solveig be able to get the girl to speak? Did the child see the killer? Does she perhaps even know him? Solveig and Inspector Finsen delve into the mystical world of the elves, so well looked after by Isolda. They discover that someone had broken into the deceased’s office and found out that a lucrative construction project could not be realised due to a report made by Isolda. They also – bit by bit – hear of little Yrsa’s sad suspicion.

Sometimes he astonishes everyone with his knowledge and on other occasions, he is unable to solve the simplest problems. When Jerôme inadvertently yet seriously injures another boy who has been bullying him for some time, turmoil breaks out: class conference, psychological assessment. But psychologist Dr. Laas cannot discover any signs of aggressiveness in the nerdy boy. She suspects that Jerôme could be highly gifted. When she informs Debbie of the possibilities in a special boarding school for gifted children, Debbie totally flips out. As a former institutionalised child herself, she cannot bear the thought of leaving her son behind the walls of a boarding school. And Jerôme? He has just found a friend in Said, a habitual offender and feared at school by all. Yet Said manages to bestow forced recognition on Jerôme. But is this enough?

This could never end in friendship. In the end, it is Schragmüller who personally orders Mata Hari’s cover to be blown – so that her own identity is protected. Mata Hari’s execution in 1917 in Paris is her final, unforgotten appearance. Elisabeth Schragmüller was lost in the annals of the Secret Service.

North by Northwest:EstoniaCRIME | 90‘ EACH, TO BE CONTINUED

A man is killed during an exchange of fire in a retirement home. The last thing he did was to hand a piece of metal to veterinary surgeon Hauke Jacobs who was there co-incidentally. As far as police officer Lona Vogt is concerned, the attack was actually meant for her father. He wasn’t the harm-less travelling salesman he liked to portray, but instead probably worked for an intel-ligence service. The victim is by no means less mysterious as he took on a new iden-tity some 20 years ago. The investigations lead to the distant past and to the murder-er of Lona’s mother …

Wild SkagerrakWILDLIFE & NATURE | 52’

It is this strait that connects the North Sea with the Baltic: With depths of over 700 metres, the Skagerrak is notorious for its dangerously strong currents. But currents also mean food and nourishment for the large swarms of fish that inhabit the region. Harbour seals, grey seals and orcas hunt here, as do the rare black mouth cat shark and porpoises. Close by, catfish mate, which in itself is spectacular and never caught on film in this way before. Lion’s mane jellyfish with nettle threads up to 30 metres long make their way through the open sea. Skagerrak’s coastal regions are amongst the most beautiful and varied in Europe and boast one of the world’s great bird paradises.

Wild SardiniaWILDLIFE & NATURE | 52‘

Sardinia has always been the epitome of pure wilderness. An emerald of volcanic or-igin in the Mediterranean, 1900 metres of coastline and an infinite maze of offshore islands. But Sardinia also has other facets: green valleys, rugged mountains, murmur-ing brooks, mysterious ruins and a unique fauna. Just off of Sardinia‘s coast lies an untouched underwater paradise – uniquely beautiful, but also dangerous. Pilot whales, dolphins and mobula rays populate the waters at Capo Testa in the north of the island. In the west, the lagoons of Cabras form a wild landscape of lakes: A home for thousands of flamingos who hunt the red brine shrimps. In addition to the flamingos,

grey and purple herons and little egrets breed here. Thousands of bats have found refuge in the craggy mountain world of the Supramonte and Gennargentu, with their countless grottoes and caves. In the sea we can observe the mass mating of sea slugs, and thanks to our camera robots and sub-mersible boats, we observe beard worms with luminous red gills, as well as bright yellow tree corals surrounding the hypo-thermal lava holes.

Wild SwitzerlandWILDLIFE & NATURE | 52‘

Gentle, green meadows, rugged rocks, mysterious lakes, dense forests, tall mountains, low-lying river deltas, quietly meandering mountain streams, a unique fauna – THIS is Switzerland! We trace the elementary power of nature and present animals and plants in landscapes that have hardly ever been touched by mankind. Switzerland is an alpine country, but it is also Europe‘s surge tank. Rivers such as the Rhineand the Rhone have their sources here.Glaciers, crevasses, icy cold caves and the underwater dome of the Verzasca are the unusual settings we chose for this film. We meet with rare, selected animal species and present their behavioural patterns, such as the Swiss or Arven jay, the lynx and albino catfish. Cold, wind, snow and extreme locations demand adaptation that make us marvel.

Island of the penguinsWILDLIFE & NATURE | 50‘

In the middle of the Antarctic Ocean, an entire mountain range arises from the wa-ter: South Georgia, the nursery of the Ant-arctic. Hundreds of thousands of penguins, elephant seals, sea dogs and their young overcrowd the beaches. The rough weath-er and the extremely difficult access to the island cause filmmaking to be an endeavor requiring much of the film crew around Ro-land Gockel and Rosie Koch and the state of the art cameras. A lot of patience and sensitivity over a period spanning some five years now offers unknown and poignant insights into the life of the king penguins on South Georgia Island.
