Measuring and proving yourself against others in international competitions is undoubtedly one of the highlights of every sporting career. GREETINGAs a President of EDSO, it was a great privilege to be asked to send the message to all the athletes, officials, guests, volunteers and spectators to welcome them to 2nd European Deaf Curling Championships in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. It is quite satisfying for EDSO to see that there have been so many applications for European Curling

Championship. Participants from 8 countries and 13 teams (7 men and 6 women) had been report to participate. I want to give my special thank to the The Swiss deaf sport association SGSV-FSSS for taken over the event and they held several European championships in a short time. They had done a very good preparation to make sure this event carry out successfully.Good luck with the event and very Best wishes

Für mich als Präsident der EDSO war die Anfrage, alle Athleten, Offiziellen, Gäste, Freiwilligen und Zuschauer zur 2. Curling Europameisterschaft der Gehörlosen im schweizerischen Schaffhausen willkommen zu heißen, ein großes Privileg. Die EDSO freut sich sehr über die große Anzahl an Bewerbern für diese Curling Europameister-

Championships in Schaffhausen. After the event in Sochi/Russia in 2014, 6 women‘s and 7 men‘s teams from 8 nations will gather in the beautiful hall in Schaffhausen‘s recreation park from 17 - 24 March 2018 to compete for medals. I would like to wish the teams good fun and good curling.My thanks go to the local organising committee, the Swiss Deaf Sports Association, the sponsors, patrons, and all the helpers. Athletes from Germany, Finland, Croatia, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary and Switzerland will be competing.

I would like to extend to everyone a warm welcome to this beautiful city, home of the Munot, and I am convinced that your outs-tanding performances as athletes will contribute significantly to the cheerful atmosphere and the success of this high-level European championship. The helpers and the organising committee will do their utmost to ensure that you are encouraged to achieve TOP performance. We are very proud to have been awarded this event by the EDSO (European Deaf Sports Organisation). 6 women‘s and 7 men‘s teams from 8 countries (Germany, Finland, Croatia, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary and Switzerland) have registered to compete. We look forward to a series of fair, exciting and successful matches.Special thanks go to the organising committee and all the volunteers, without whom such an event would not have been possible. Guet Stei! A nome del comitato d’organizzazione del 2nd European Deaf Curling Championship do il cordiale benvenuto a tutti i partecipanti, alle spettatrici e agli spettatori qui a Sciaffusa.

Per noi è un grande onore svolgere tra il 17 e il 24 marzo il secondo Campionato Europeo di Curling per non udenti. Siamo fieri che l‘EDSO (European Deaf Sports Organisation) abbia affidato a noi l‘organizzazione di questa manifestazione. Si sono iscritte 6 squadre femminili e 7 squadre maschili con atleti provenienti da 8 paesi (Ger-

mania, Finlandia, Croazia, Polonia, Russia, Ucraina, Ungheria e Svizzera). Faremo il nostro meglio perché i giochi abbiano successo e si svolgano all’insegna della sportività.Un ringraziamento particolare al comitato di organizzazione e a tutti gli aiutanti volontari. Senza il loro aiuto non sarebbe possibile svolgere una manifestazione di questo tipo. Ringrazio anche i responsabili della pista di Curling che ci hanno aiutato attivamente nell‘organizzazione e rimarranno al nostro fianco anche questa settimana.Vi auguriamo una settimana emozionante a Sciaffusa e buon divertimento sia ai partecipanti che agli spettatori.

What is Curling?

Curling is a team sport for young and old. Fun, sports and togetherness come together in curling. Not only strength and endurance, but also teamwork, precision, mental resilience and tactics are important. Four players per team engage in a duel on the ice. A game lasts 2-3 hours.

Was ist Curling?

Curling ist ein Teamsport für Jung und Alt. Spass, Sport und Zusammengehörigkeit werden im Curling gelebt. Nicht nur Kraft und Ausdauer, sondern auch Teamwork, Präzision, Mentales und Taktik sind wich-tig. Je vier Spieler pro Team duellieren sich auf dem Eis. Ein Spiel dauert 2-3 Stunden.

Qu’est ce qui est Curling ?

Le curling est un sport d‘équipe pour jeunes et moins jeunes. Plaisir, sport et esprit de solidarité y sont vécues. Plusieurs qualités sont essentielles : non seulement la force et l‘endurance, mais aussi le travail d‘équipe, la précision, la force mentale et la tactique. Quatre joueurs par équipe se battent en duel sur la glace. Une partie dure de 2 à 3 heures.

Spirit of CurlingAs you can expect from a „very British Game“ a certain etiquette applies here (Spirit of Curling): Curling players are obliged to exhibit fair and tolerant behavior on- and around the ice.Understandably, curling players also want to win, but without compromising the opponent or influencing them so they play poorly. You should never joke about an opponent‘s misthrown stone or show malicious pleasure. On the contrary: You meet an opposing super stone with some words of appreciation!

By the way: Curling is also one of the few sports which needs no referee (except for national and international championships). If there is any lack of clarity or other issues the two Skips will come to a mutual agreement. The top priority for Curlers has always been the proverbial fairness!
