RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

§ Exhibitors may make as many entries in each class as they wish, except where specified. No exhibitor will be permitted to take more than one prize in each class.

§ Each exhibit must be entered on the Entry Form as a separate item and paid for accordingly. § All classes are open classes, except class 140 and the Care Home Classes. § Exhibitors’ numbers, issued on the day, must be affixed to exhibits. § Exhibits must be the property of the exhibitor and for classes 1 - 23 and 32 - 68, must have been grown on their

property. § Entries that do not conform to the schedule will be disqualified. Please read the schedule carefully. § An exhibit once placed may not be moved or touched other than by the Show Secretary or by their official

deputy. No exhibitor may move or touch the exhibit of another.

§ The exhibitor’s name shall not appear on any exhibit. § Exhibits must be displayed in the marquee between 6.00 am and 10.30 am on Saturday 20th August when the

marquee will be cleared for judging. § The Judges’ decisions are final. § No exhibit to be removed from the marquee before 4.00 pm. § Please remove exhibits from the marquee between 4.00 - 4.30 pm. § Exhibits not removed will be deemed to have been donated to show funds and may be auctioned. § The Committee accepts no responsibility for any exhibit. § Entry forms should be completed and delivered with entry money (to the Show Secretary) by:

Three types of vegetables chosen from the following: Potatoes (3) Tomatoes (6) Pods of Peas (6) Runner Beans (6 pods)

Onions (3) Cauliflowers (2) Parsnips (3) Carrots (3)

Carrots and parsnips must have foliage trimmed back to 7.5cm (3 in). Peas and beans must be displayed with some stalk attached. Tomatoes must be displayed with calyces. The vegetables should be displayed within an area of 45 x 60 cm (18 x 24 in) without bending any part of them. The tray, board or staging must not be cut or mutilated in any way at all. No part of an exhibit should exceed the size of the tray. Parsley garnish and a black base cloth are allowed but no other foliage or accessories. Onion tops may be tied or whipped using raffia or string. Each type of vegetable carries a maximum of 20 points. Garden News Vouchers will be awarded as follows: 1st prize - £10, 2nd prize - £5, 3rd prize - £3.

show case or clear plastic bag. 110. One Honey Cake made to the show recipe below. The cake is to be displayed on a plain white paper

plate in a clear polythene bag. 200g (7oz) self-raising flour, 175g (6oz) liquid honey, 110g (4oz) soft brown sugar, 140g (5oz) butter or margarine, 2 medium sized eggs, 1 tablespoon of water. Place butter, sugar, honey and water in a saucepan and heat until butter has melted, stirring all the time. When the butter has melted, remove pan from the heat and allow contents to cool to blood temperature. Gradually beat in the eggs, add sieved flour and mix until smooth (do not over mix). Turn into a greased and lined 6.5 to 7.5 inch diameter cake tin. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas mark 4. Bake for 1 hour, or until risen and firm to the touch. Cover the top, if necessary, to prevent browning too much. Leave to cool in the tin for 5 minutes and then turn out onto a wire rack until cool. Cooking time and temperature may vary to suit the type of oven used so have a trial run before competition day.

111. Six honey shortbread biscuits made to the show recipe below. The biscuits are to be displayed on a plain white paper plate in a clear polythene bag. 225g (8oz) butter, 400g (14oz) plain flour, 50g (2oz) honey, 50g (2oz) light soft brown sugar. Cream the butter and sugar together, add the honey and gradually add the shifted flour. Mix well together to form soft dough. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into rounds using a scone cutter, prick the surface with a fork and put on a greased baking tray. Bake in a preheated oven at 160C/Gas 2 for approximately 25 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown. When cooked, lift the biscuits off the tray and leave to cool on a wire rack.

112. Ten pieces of honey fudge made to the show recipe below. The pieces of fudge are to be displayed on a plain white paper plate in a clear polythene bag. 454g (1lb) granulated sugar, 55g (2ozs) butter, 55g (2ozs) honey, 160ml (1/4 pint) milk. Put all the ingredients into a heavy based pan. Bring slowly to the boil, stirring all the time. Cover and boil rapidly for 2 minutes. Uncover and boil gently for approximately 15 minutes until soft ball stage is reached, stirring all the time. (A little dropped into cold water will form a soft ball 120C/240F). Take off the heat, stand pan on a cold surface for 5 minutes. Beat until creamy and mix starts to thicken. Pour quickly into a greased / oiled tin approximately 7 inches square. When nearly set, mark into squares. Cut when cold.

Care Homes Challenge 195. Care Homes Challenge Award kindly sponsored by Mrs Rosie Tucker and the family in memory of Mrs Dorothy Dyer. A cup and £20 garden voucher will be awarded to the Care Home with the most points. The "Care Homes Challenge" class is open to a small group of care homes that have a connection or association with Tickenham Village. Entry to the challenge is by invitation only. The challenge will test the skill of the Care Home residents in a number of different activities.

Care Homes are asked to select FIVE activities from the following list.

It will be up to each Care Home to stage their exhibits in the marquee, on the day of the show. The marquee will be open for exhibitors between 6.00am and 10.30am.
