FOCUS ON:

Sara S. Skinner SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Director of Human Resources, Lakeside School, presenting: Realizing Your Value Join Sara Skinner, Director of Human Resources, Lakeside School, in an exploration of how administrative professionals provide value and impact in the independent school environment. We will examine successful communication and goal setting strategies, probe into our individual strengths and celebrate the pivotal role you play in supporting the mission of your school.

We’ll hear from NWAIS assistants and administrators about how they manage their partnerships, what has and hasn’t worked, through case studies of real situations. Then we’ll do a quick survey to find out where you lie on the spectrum of partnership, and seek ideas for improvement on both sides of the desk.

Plan to stay and mingle at the reception. Get better acquainted with your peers in a relaxed setting over drinks and hors d’oeurves. Partner with a new acquaintance and strategize on ways to support each other after the conference.

Delve deeper into Sara’s message by examining the differences and commonalities of your individual roles and school communities. Round table discussions allow for unscripted conversation, sharing of experiences and learning from each other’s successes and failures. Explore how other schools handle many of the same challenges you face on a daily basis.

FOCUS ON

Author of the bestselling Microsoft Office 100 Tips series for PC/Mac, Vickie is a Microsoft Certified Trainer with nearly 20 years of classroom training experience, specializing in the Microsoft, Google and Apple productivity platforms such as Microsoft Office, OneNote, SharePoint, Skype/Lync, Office 365, Google Apps, Gmail, The Cloud, and more!

She travels the globe as a sought-after international speaker delivering live Jerry Maguire-inspired keynote presentations to a variety of audiences; and teaching engaging instructor-led workshops and courses to such major brands as Microsoft, Starbucks, MasterCard, The New York Times, eBay, American Airlines, The Gates Foundation, and most notably, Bill Gates’s Admin Team. Vickie earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas and holds over 15 Microsoft certifications.

Having studied and performed improv comedy in New York, Dallas and Austin, Vickie is highly engaging and adaptable during her sessions so that attendees learn MORE than what they expected while having fun in the process.

Caution: There’s a very good chance you will both laugh and cry during one of her sessions. She will.

Vickie’s purpose is empowering (and entertaining) business users to work less AND better by using the technology at their fingertips. One of the biggest pains she experiences when she is home with her family or when she wakes up in the middle of the night is the knowledge that someone else is stuck at their computer trying to meet a deadline because they simply don’t know about that one button or feature that would have allowed them to get home hours ago. Is that you?

The First Administrative Assistants Book Club

This round table session will center around the very short book We Should All be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. No time to read? View the popular half hour TED Talk by the same name. Either option will prepare you for the round table. If you like to have the discussion topics in mind while you are reading or watching, we will use parts of this discussion guide to facilitate our conversation.

If there are books or articles you feel would benefit others in your role or the independent school community, please bring your own suggested reading list to the conference to share.
