Views on RKDas’ Music and Writing in Print Media
…Applying to it all criteria of successful events, I would say Ishq aur Aman was a hit.
…The auditorium was packed. The theme was relevant to this age,…The vocalist
RKDas introduced this song to the accompaniment of the orchestra…Das sang the
Quranic chant very well, with what sounded, like chaste pronunciation and right
throw of voice.
Shanta Gokhale, Mumbai Mirror, Mumbai-March 10, 2011.
…Ram Krishna Das…A classical singer, he was far removed from the weather
beaten, dread-locked bauls one sees in the villages and small towns of West Bengal,
despite being dressed in saffron and strumming an ektara. He gave a brief yet pleasant
performance that had rapt audience…
Pronoti Datta, Times of India, Mumbai-Feb 11, 2009
R. K. Das that indefatiguable researcher into music and musicians, presented an
interesting selection of songs of Bengal at NCPA. Whether by training or birth, Das
has a ringing, free ranging voice.
Shanta Gokhale, Times of India, Mumbai-Aug 29, 1999.
…Ram Krishna Das sang to us with emotion the same (baul) songs which, in a variety
of forms, are sung in many parts of Hindustan.
Swapna Vora, Free Press Journal, Mumbai-April 10, 1999.
…while the elaboration of rag poorvi he rendered skilfully some significant phrases of
the melody that assisted in establishing the aesthetic tonal image of the rag.
Dr Shyamrang Shukla, Jansatta (translated), Mumbai-April 23, 1998.
…Researcher R. K. Das, who feels their (courtesans, nautch girls, prostitutes) exotic
and often maligned livelihood has consigned them to the dustbin of history, is
collecting data to restore pride in their participation.
Shameem Akhtar, Outlook, Mumbai-Oct 13, 1997.
…Rama Krishna Das provides for the research of this serial (Rag Rang).
Kalyan S. Bose, E-Times, Mumbai-Nov 18-24, 1995.
…R K Das’ lecture demonstration on Amir Khusrau reflects his own passion for the
poet-saint’s work.
Mohammed Wajihuddin, Indian Express, Mumbai-May 15, 2002
Prof. Ramakrishna Das is a scholar musician who studies music in many of its
aspects. He gave an interesting lecture demonstration on Amir Khusro and his
contribution to Hindustani music…Das brought out the various dimensions of
Khusro’s rich personality…Das also demonstrated Khusro’s compositions in an
effective manner. The bandish in Yaman Kalyan and the ghazal based on chhayanat
were superbly rendered.
Amarendra Dhaneshwar, Afternoon, Mumbai-May 24, 2002
…a well researched biography of Khusro, written by Mumbai based musicologist R.
K. Das, offers a penetrating insight into the life of the 13th
century poet…
Amabrish Mishra, Times of India, Mumbai-December 8, 2003.
…in Ameer Khusro-The Great Indian, writer RKDas concentrates on both Khusro’s
upbringing and musical poetical contribution…is a good reference point on Khusro’s
life and times…For those who are fond of Indian music history, this is worth a read.
