P R O D U C T A U T H O R I Z A T I O N

Before developing projects in Proficy Process Systems, you must authorize the software. If not, you have unrestricted use of the software’s features for only a short trial period. The authorization process takes only a few moments and enables you to take advantage of any product support for which you qualify.

To see the products you are currently authorized for, on the Proficy Process Systems Help menu, point to Product Authorization and choose Authorize Software. The Product Authorization dialog appears. If you have a hardware key in a USB port, select Show Hardware Keys to view the authorizations provided by that key.

H a r d w a r e K e y A u t h o r i z a t i o n

Hardware key authorization requires a special USB hardware key. This key contains internal settings that enable the use of specific products and is set by your dealer or retailer.

Hardware key authorization is for Windows Vista or Windows XP, and requires a free USB port on your computer.

Important: If a component is not enabled on your hardware key, you can install it but you cannot launch or use it.

To author ize Prof icy Process Systems products wi th a hardware key1. Locate a free USB port on your computer.

The USB port is often located on the front or back of your tower case, or in the side of a laptop computer. Sometimes a USB port is on your computer’s monitor.

2. Plug the hardware key into the USB port.

The first time you plug the key into a USB port, a progress dialog appears, indicating that Windows is updating its system settings with the new hardware. After the dialog disappears, the settings stored in the hardware key are active. You can use the authorized Proficy Process Systems products.

Leave the hardware key in the port while using Proficy Process Systems. If you remove the key, authorization for those products vanishes.

To move authorization to another computer, remove the hardware key from the source computer and plug it into a USB port on the destination computer.

3 EGDEthernet Global Data (EGD) is the primary Ethernet-based peer-to-peer communications protocol for data and command exchanges for GE IP Controllers. EGD enables repeated transmission of data exchanges from a Controller (producer) to other devices such as HMIs (consumers). A producer supports several exchanges, and any of these can be configured to be sent to a specific consumer (unicast), to multiple consumers in a group (multicast), or to all consumers on a network (broadcast).

The primary advantages of EGD are in distributed control applications that consist of multiple Controllers with a supervisory layer consisting of HMI/SCADA nodes sharing a common Ethernet network. Controllers produce data that interested consumers (like an HMI) collect in configurable sets of transmitted data packets.

Proficy Process Systems has three EGD tools to communicate between Engineering Workstation and your HMI products: EGD Configuration Server EGD Management Tool EGD Management Edition OPC Server

Distributed Control

The following diagram demonstrates how EGD works. There are four devices in the Ethernet Global Data exchange: two PACSystems Controllers, a computer running Engineering Workstation, and an operator console with iFIX.

Controller A produces Exchanges 1 and 2 and consumes none. Controller A’s logic triggers an event to generate a Command message to Controller B.

Controller B produces Exchange 3 and consumes Exchange 2.

The computer produces no exchanges and consumes Exchanges 1 through 3.

Exchange 1 is unicast. Exchange 2 multicast, where a single produced exchange is subscribed to by more than one consumer.

iFIX on an operator console updates to the Configuration Server on the computer.

The configuration of each device is available in the Configuration Server on the computer (can be located on any computer on the network). The EGD Management tool generates EGD status and communication statistics.

Note: Proficy Process Systems supports redundant supervisory networks and Run Mode Store (RMS). Redundant supervisory networks enable a redundancy

Historian Server6

H I S T O R I A N S E R V E RThe Historian Server is the central point for managing all client and collector interfaces, storing and (optionally) compressing data and retrieving data. Tag data (numbers, strings, BLOBs) is stored in a proprietary format in the archive database. The archive database consists of several files; each file represents a specific time period of historical data.

If licensed for the Alarm and Event option, then the Historian Server also manages the storage and retrieval of OPC alarms and events in an SQL Server or MSDE database.

C O L L E C T O R SHistorian includes several types of data collectors for collecting data from a variety of applications, such as iFIX 2.6 and greater, FIX 6.5 and greater, CIMPLICITY 5.5 and greater, OPC 1.0 or 2.0, OPC Alarms & Events, files (csv or xml), and OSI PI.

The Calculation collector performs math and analysis on Historian data and stores the results on the server. The Server-to-Server collector has the same calculation capabilities as the Calculation collector, storing the results on a remote server.

C L I E N T SClient applications retrieve archived data through the Historian API. The Historian API is a client/server programming interface that maintains connectivity

Want to know more? See the Historian Server section in the Proficy Historian: Getting Started manual.

W E B A N D N O N - W E B A D M I N I S T R A T O R SHistorian Web Administrators run on any client(s) on the Internet or Intranet. They connect to the Historian system through the Administration web site, which is installed with the Historian Server. To support administration through a Historian Web Administrator, first install and run the Microsoft® Internet Information Server (IIS). You are not required to install IIS on the Historian Server. After IIS is installed, remote clients with Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater can use the Administration web site. If you installed client tolls on the IIS computer, you can use the Administration web site from the server.

You can install the Historian Non-Web Administrator on any computer(s) connected to the Historian Server through the API. With Historian Non-Web Administrators, you do not need to install IIS.

H I S T O R I A N O L E D B P R O V I D E RThe Historian OLE DB Provider is a data access mechanism where you can query Historian product data using Structured Query Language (SQL) or other client reporting tools.

The Historian OLE DB Provider enables regulated industries to create reports with applications such as Seagate® Crystal Reports. It also enables current Historian product users to integrate with other databases such as SQL Server, and other third-party OLE DB-compliant applications.

Excel Add-In6

E X C E L A D D - I NThe Historian Excel add-in is a useful tool for presenting and analyzing data stored in archive files. It enables you to design custom reports of selected data, automatically process the information, and analyze results. You can also perform tag maintenance functions in Historian, such as adding tags, importing or exporting tags, or editing tag parameters.

H I S T O R I A N S D KThe Software Development Kit (SDK) enables you to write Visual Basic (VB) or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) scripts. You can create scripts to perform selected repetitive or complex tasks or to create a custom user interface. To use the SDK, create a VB/VBA project with the SDK as a project reference.
