Many horse owners seek effective, holistic ways to care for their beloved horses. Requests for Equine Natural Movement sessions have steadily increased since Joseph Freeman developed the work in 1994.

The Equine Natural Movement Series program has five levels, each with 100 hours of work. Four levels are each a week long with plenty of hands-on horse work as well as classroom time. In between courses during your Independent Study portion, you’ll practice giving sessions to local horses back home and complete homework assignments so you’re ready to progress to the next level. Our business development module is done through conference calls and an online tele-class and can be started anytime during your training (it doesn’t have to be taken in sequence). This course helps you develop your business in your local area with plenty of support from our staff. Advanced course graduates who show particular promise may apply to our Teacher Training and go on to mentor students of their own.

Our classes are taught in a small rural village in southwest Washington, 40 minutes northeast of Portland, Oregon and three hours south of Seattle, Washington. We offer certification as a Basic Practitioner with 300 hours and as an Advanced Practitioner with 500 hours completed. Students can take each week-long class a few months apart or longer if that fits your calendar better.

A career as an Equine Natural Movement Series practitioner might be a good career choice if you:! * Love horses and work well with them! ! ! ! * Enjoy figuring out how to help horses improve! ! ! ! movement and function more optimally! ! ! ! * Are in reasonably good physical shape! ! ! ! * Want to earn a living spending time with and! ! ! ! helping horses

THE EQUINE NATURAL MOVEMENT SERIES

! ! ! Advanced Series Work! ! ! Developing Intuitive Horse Wisdom

In this module students immerse themselves in learning how horses think and feel. We also approach the series from a different perspective so students become adept at applying the principles in different situations. A real in-depth study of what Structural Integration is and how and why it is so effective with horses. Open only to graduate students.

* Advanced custom sessions that incorporate core releases into the series. This brings flexible and fluid movement through the center of the horse.

* Understanding the hidden nature and language of fascial restrictions in the body

* Reading and matching the individual energetic signature of each horse: Developing an insightful and caring relationship with each horse

* Fully achieving the goals of Structural Integration

* Working with respect, kindness and love. This occurs in every session from the very beginning and is primary to delivering the work and getting good results. Also it makes the work more fulfilling for both horse and practitioner. A full heart brings everyone to the place of healing and goodheartedness.

Teacher Training

This class is enrolled by invitation though we encourage you to make your intention to become a Teacher known to us so we can help you in that direction. It is open to Advanced Course graduates who have considerable experience as an Equine Natural Movement practitioner and who show demonstrable promise as teachers.

* Teacher Training candidates are expected to have a well grounded base of knowledge in the work prior to taking this course.

* The training focuses on methods that assist students in learning using all their senses and skills. Candidates learn to identify and bring out each student’s hidden talents and highest potential and create ways that bring them up to speed in areas they aren’t as strong in.

* Candidates learn to provide optimal educational situations that encourage exploration and skill development.

* Upon successful completion of the class, teacher candidates may be asked to serve as adjunct faculty and mentor students who may train with them directly. Adjunct faculty will be paid for their teaching time and we will accept their mentor trainees into successive modules of the regular training.

More information on this course will be discussed during the Advanced Training.

The Equine Natural Movement School Faculty

JOSEPH FREEMAN is a creative, gifted practitioner who applied his work with humans to horses and came up with a sequence of sessions that can provide a return to balance and flexibility for horses. Joseph certified in Structural Integration and worked in a clinical setting for many years. As a favor to friends he worked on their horses. The remarkable results he got convinced him his true calling is horses. He created the Equine Natural Movement series in 1995, began mentoring students in 1999 and training practitioners at his school in 2001. He has skilled hands, a calm and patient manner and a deep love of animals. Most importantly, horses enjoy working with him.

JACQUELINE FREEMAN is the Training Director of the school so her fingers are in each part of the program. She was on faculty for Structural Integration (Hellerwork) and owned a holistic health center. She works on curriculum development, guides the independent study portion of the course, and orchestrates the continuing development of each student to graduation and into practice. She sees the strengths of each student and works to bring out the best in them so they feel the joy of fulfilling their highest potential with this work. She is effervescent, optimistic, thoroughly practical and deeply committed to honesty, ethics and passion. She is author of “Song of Increase: Listening to honeybees for kinder beekeeping and a better world”

Horses have been in MAGGIE MITTUCH's life for over 40 years. She is an active competitor in 3-day eventing and lives with her husband (also a trainer) i Port Orchard, WA. Maggie credits her work with horses for keeping her connected with the earth and it’s energy and full of life. She says horses make her a better person.

SARA COOPER is an acupuncturist, holistic practitioner and award-winning screenplay writer. She exemplifies love and is a great support to her students. She seems to have a natural affinity for working with horses with emotional issues and is quite tuned in to them. Sara lives in Oregon and travels extensively.

LAUREN HARMON has a degree in Equine Science and Agricultural Economics. She intended to go to vet school, but during her successful healing from a back injury, she discovered the benefits of Rolfing Structural Integration. She became a practitioner for humans first, then learned and integrated equine SI into her practice. Lauren is an Advanced Rolfer and practices in Colorado.

SUSAN CHERNAK McELROY’s books and tapes are published world-wide. Her pioneering work, “Animals as Teachers and Healers,” is a classic in the genre of the Human-Animal bond. Susan teaches on our business course faculty and helps our students learn how to best present themselves in print and media. Her work explores the physical and spiritual importance of our relationship with animals and nature. Her interactions with all kinds of animals are a joy to witness.

Pay by the Module! ! ! ! ! Local Homestays Each week-long module! $1750!! ! ! $375, breakfast/dinner includedBusiness course TBA spring 2017!! ! ! or AirBnB.com on your own! (being revamped as we speak!)

YES, WE HAVE A PAYMENT PROGRAM No interest financing can be arranged with a $750 deposit ($250 non-refundable). ! Balance payments are due on the first day of the next following months.! Two payments of $500 each month = Payment completed within three months.! Four payments of $250 each month = Payment completed within five months.! ! Important note: Mail post-dated checks with your application.

WHEN AM I REGISTERED FOR THE COURSE?Students are registered once tuition is received and the application is accepted. Because our classes are full at six students, we strongly encourage prospective students to register as soon as possible to assure themselves a place in the class.

Tuition is due 30 days before the course begins. Paying well in advance helps us know when to close a course that's approaching fullness. In the past we've had students send in payments just before this deadline and had to tell them they'd have to wait until the next course. They were disappointed and we felt bad, too. We suggest early payments so everyone can plan better. When you do that you make our job much easier and we're grateful for it.

We hold your place once payment is received. We don’t like late fees and prefer that students pay when they know they want to be in the next class. Most of our classes fill so paying early helps us know which classes are still open. We can take someone coming in less than 30 days before class begins if we've got room. It is always worth asking.

HOW MANY MODULES SHOULD I TAKE? Students can take Module One without committing to the entire training. If you're not sure, take Module One to try the course out and find out if the work sings to you. Students seeking certification take the first three modules. Upon satisfactory completion of these courses and homework, the school approves certification as an Equine Natural Movement practitioner.

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE BUSINESS EXPERIENCE?The business course is not required. It is recommended for students who do not currently own and run a successful business or if this work is a new field. Students seeking to be Advanced Practitioners need to complete the business course. Students who currently have a successful equine practice or have a business background can request to be accepted for Advanced Certification without the Business Class. Ask us how to do this.

INSURANCEStudents agree to purchase and maintain student insurance before beginning the course. Our school is registered with Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals. ABMP has a very good student insurance program for $45/year. An application is in your student info packet. or you can sign up directly at www.ABMP.com/students . Click on “Student Membership” and tell them you will be studying with us. Our School ID# is 931-674.

ADVANCED CERTIFICATION & TEACHER TRAININGStudents may apply for the Advanced Course after a year of working in the field. Graduates of the Advanced Course may inquire about the Teacher Training. These practitioners may be invited to join our adjunct faculty and be paid to mentor new students.

CLASS SIZEWe intentionally keep our classes small. The maximum basic class size is six students. This way every student gets plenty of individual attention and is able to reach their highest skill level. That makes everyone, including the horses, happy.

HOW LONG DOES THE TRAINING TAKE?Most students take the first three classes over about a year. Everyone’s circumstances are different and it’s fine with us for you to spread the modules over as long as you need.

CANCELLATIONSCanceling with short notice creates scheduling problems that may prevent another student from attending. We assess a $250 nonrefundable fee for cancellations with less than 30 days notice so if there's a problem, do let us know immediately.

WHERE TO STAY -- Sleeping and EatingA neighbor couple offers home-stays about ten minutes from our farm. You pay directly for room and breakfast/dinner ($375) in a dormitory style setting, including airport pickup and drop-off. If you prefer more privacy, try www.AirBnB.com. Please arrange the home-stay ahead of time as they have a limited beds available. Lunches are on your own, a stop at the grocery store after class is easy to arrange.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE of STRUCTURAL INTEGRATIONIf you were learning to be a chiropractor or acupuncturist, you would of course, expect to have a personal experience of that work. To more fully understand the Structural Integration (SI) work we provide to horses, students will receive a human SI series themselves. This is a requirement for certification at the completion of the 300 hr. training. If you don’t know a SI practitioner who lives near your home, ask us for help finding a good one. Students who have received a SI series more than three years prior to taking our class will benefit greatly from receiving an Advanced SI series (4-5 additional sessions) during their training.

What clients said after their horses got a series

I got my thoroughbred off the track. He went with his head high and hollowed his back. His right side was very underdeveloped. He was a long term project. My chiropractor recommended Joseph’s work. I was skeptical, but after the second and third sessions, Nick started rounding his back up, accepting the bit, and moving his shoulder much more. I’m so glad Nick had the Natural Movement series. He changed dramatically. After the last session, I had a whole new horse. My dressage scores have come way up and his jumping improved. He now lifts his entire shoulder area over the jump, not just his knees. Months after his last session he continues to get stronger.! ! -- Linda Stuckenschneider Eventer, LaCenter, WA

Before the series I had no complaints with my Arab’s behavior or performance but I struggled to get him to show enthusiasm. My chiropractor suggested this work. After a few sessions, the horse I harped on all the time to pick up his feet began prancing in from the field ready to go to work. He had dramatic improvement in his range of motion and movement. He responded more consistently to my aids and noticeably enjoyed himself in the arena and on the trail. I realized then how much his movement had been limited. His discomfort probably caused many frustrating quirks I tried to overlook. My horse now has a light in his eyes and every-thing about him reflects how great he feels. This brings me much joy. Marcee Daly, OR/AK

My thoroughbred suffered a disabling injury to his pelvis and hind quarters. Since the series, my horse is now training for his first dressage test with comfort and soundness! I didn’t know if he would ever be anything other than a pasture ornament. Now I am confident he is on his way to being a graceful and happy show horse. -- Heather Cadwallader Eventer, Vancouver, WA

Joseph worked with both our our beloved horses, a 20- year old Friesian and a 16-year old Hanoverian. We have used several forms of complementary treatment for our horses, all which were beneficial, however, after Joseph’s Equine Natural Movement Series, we saw a significant improvement in the quality and integrity of their movement, and their physical comfort and muscle tone. Although his work intensively addressed problem areas, the horses were very relaxed and accepting of his treatments. He never pushed them beyond their comfort level, so they let him work ever more deeply. We were impressed that he always told us which issues this work could most effectively address. We highly recommend this work. It great benefits anyone seeking to improve the fluidity, integrity and efficiency of their horse’s movement and helps maximize a horse’s overall physical and mental well-being. We are completely satisfied. ! ! ! ! ! -- Barbara Hort & Mark Girard Dressage, Vancouver, WA

Page 17: Professional Training Program - The Equine Natural ... › enms_wp › wp... · * Know essential Equine Natural Movement bodywork techniques * Have a working knowledge of equine connective

This work is incredibly powerful and remarkable. After two sessions, my horse was able to canter without issue. Previously, we had struggled for 10 years with ear pinning, tail swishing, switching leads behind and general tension everywhere. Somehow this work unlocked and released her patterns of holding tension and diminished adhesions that had been in her back for years. She got the five session series and she continues to improve months after the series was completed. Her topline and overall physique have changed so much she doesn't look like the same horse. Her muscles are soft, supple and relaxed. She is way happier and content mentally. ! ! ! ! ! ! - Amy Kendis Saddle Fitter, Washougal, WA

I rode Dutch for the first time since his session the other day and the difference is amazing. He is much more forward and free moving, not at all resistant to me. He felt so much more fluid. Thanks so much. I think this may be the missing piece of the Dutch puzzle. Hooray!!! ! ! ! ! ! -- Kathy Lang! ! Dressage, Conroe TX

I had this work done on my 18 year old Thoroughbred gelding, Randy. His conformation issues had created curious holding patterns in his body. Despite chiropractic treatments, massage and corrective shoeing for much of his life, none of that released the holding. This work made such an impact! His muscles were stiff from holding but now they are soft and pliable and he moves much better. Now he does things that other horses take for granted, actions that had been difficult for him. Randy’s body changed drastically but his mind also improved. Now he’s more open and interested in what goes on around him. He is a better partner. His willingness to try new things and how he feels underneath me is fabulous. Thank you for revealing the real Randy who has been trying to come out for a long time! -- Nancy Kittleson Dressage, Centered Riding & Natural Horsemanship, Edmonds, WA

What our graduates said about their training

Dear Joseph, I am in Palo Alto, CA., working on horses. In Albuquerque and Santa Fe I got hooked up with some professional jumpers and their horses. I worked on the winner of the Grand Prix here. In Albuquerque I met more people who really liked my work. I got really, really busy when one group asked me to come to California and another group asked me to go to Colorado to work on their horses. I am getting really good results. The gratitude I feel coming from the horses is almost overwhelming. THIS IS AMAZING WORK! I am so thrilled I am doing this. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! --Patty Evans, New Mexico

Joseph is an exceptional teacher. The learning atmosphere and teamwork between Joseph and Jacqueline is extraordinary. They open up their home and hearts to the students. I loved working with Joseph at the barns. Every time I worked on a horse, I understood more the power of the work. Jacqueline customized the marketing coaching for me and even helped me create my own materials. I was constantly surprised at how much more there is to this work.I had a startling moment one day when I suddenly realized I could do this work, and now I AM. I am so glad I took the training because it has touched and changed all aspects of my life.! ! ! ! -- Melina Knoop, Equine Cranio-sacral practitioner, Washington

Joseph is an amazing person with a calm and gentle manner. It is wonderful to see how the horses connect with him almost immediately. The work he taught me is very powerful. the effect it has on all the horses I have worked on is truly wonderful. I have witnessed horses’ movement change dramatically. After the series they move with an effortless ease, moving forward and with greater power. The course was all I hoped for and more. The whole process was run very efficiently from the first time I contacted Jacqueline to the last day of class. I highly recommend the course to anyone who enjoys working with horses.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! -- Susan Murphy, Massachusetts

There is a quality to Joseph’s work that is ineffable. It’s amazing to me that he can work on a horse and sustain the energetic connection while having a dialog with us. I feel I am finally starting to grasp the essence of this work. I am fascinated with the biomechanics of horses and beginning to think that it’s impossible to work on them without affecting them on other levels as well. What a humbling thought. I feel so fortunate to have crossed paths with you. My journey with horses has truly been enriched by having the opportunity to learn from you.! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! -- Cathy Persun Washington

This kind of work is a journey, not a destination. It’s very profound work that is capable of changing not only the lives of horses, but also oneself.! !-- Robin Bell, New Hampshire

If you come into this class with an open mind, it will blow your socks off. I learned a lot about myself and my true potential. It’s fantastic. ! ! -- Kate Garland, New Hampshire

I was given a gift quite rare: To have a teacher with such presence that if you had not spoken a word, all would have profoundly changed for me. I had an extraordinary moment when you walked into the stall when I was working with a horse. Before I even saw you, I felt your amazing energy as you came to be with us and it was full of expanded love and calm. What struck me is how horses know others more by their energy than by sight. Our energy is who we are, completely. I always had understood this, but knowing this as the horses know it is quite another thing ...On the last day of class you spoke words I had heard and acted upon a hundred times. You said “...To work from the heart” Those words entered my being at a deeper place at that moment and I dropped completely into pure heart and spirit. I surrendered to this deepest realm of spirit and my hands felt guided to the optimum angles and depth. I began to feel amazing releases, one by one, and although I could not have recalled any anatomical names at that moment, I had a knowing of what was letting go, The horse and I danced his wholeness together and it was magical. When the session was complete, he drew his back up in a stretch I have never seen a horse do, expressing full movement through a back and neck that had been drawn in tightly in quite the opposite direction. I came to learn the physical work but I got so, so much more. I am blessed and so grateful. ! ! -- Lynn Wolf, Animal Communicator, Colorado

Training in Equine Natural Movement has been a real treat for me. After the first week of training I returned home full of energy to create my own horse clients. It took about a year of practicing part time until my schedule was full enough that I was able to quit doing anything else but Equine Natural Movement work. I am so grateful for having gained the ability to help horses go through profound changes and transform into new, happier horses. Now I get calls where a trainer heard of my work and she wants me to come and work with all the show horses in the barn- What a business!Thank you for providing me with a training that allows for me to work full time with what I love to do, AND to be successful on a business and financial level as well!

Equine Natural Movement Series: Structural Integration for HorsesA review by Stuart Bell, M.A.

I spent an awesome time in Washington learning the Equine Natural Movement Series from Joseph Freeman. Joseph trained in Hellerwork Structural Integration (SI) and shifted his focus to working with horses. Joseph is married to Jacqueline Freeman who was one the premier Hellerwork practitioners and on faculty for many years.

My class had bodywork practitioners with lots of horse experience, others with lots of horse experience and no bodywork background. I have extensive bodywork and movement education experience but less horse experience. One of the beauties of the course is that we were each encouraged to contribute to each other in our learning. I felt welcomed, accepted, loved, and nurtured exactly as I was. I could know lots in one moment and in the next moment I could know next to nothing and still feel totally accepted. Along with all that, the setting, accommodations, food, and everything else were sumptuous including the evenings of games and conversation. The countryside and their farm, Friendly Haven Rise, are lovely and restful.

The course was outstanding for many reasons. It was fun, challenging, thought provoking, satisfying. I found working with another species directly useful for my work with humans. It re-inspired my work.

The things I learned that help me most are how to: * Establish and reestablish moment to moment trust* Really listen to and communicate verbally and non verbally* Encourage the horse by showing him how this work helps

Horses are great clients and great teachers. I discovered they communicate in a down to earth, no-nonsense way which I have been encouraging with my human clients. Seeing Joseph work in such a kindly respectful manner with horses, other animals, and people really inspired a new level of respect and kindness from me in all of my work.

I also learned from Joseph an elegant sequence that happens with each session. In addition to making great changes by itself, it is a trust builder, a relaxer, a deepener of experience and a diagnostic before the more specific work of each session. I have been following this recipe with my human clients as I begin each session with wonderful results. It is powerful by itself and the familiarity of it relaxes the client and deepens the trust and relationship with each session.! ! !

I am certified in Hellerwork, Feldenkrais, Alexander, and Laban Bartenieff Movement Analysis

Over the past 35 years, I have attended thousands of hours of bodywork training with countless teachers. Joseph definitely ranks among the very best of those teachers I have had the good fortune to encounter. His thorough knowledge of bodywork and energywork is equally matched by his capacity to share this understanding with students at any level. If you have any desire to learn how to communicate with animals and help them to reach their highest potential, look no further.! Brad Paulson, Adv. Structural Integration Practitioner, Kansas

As someone who looked high and low for an equine Structural Integration class, this class has surpassed my expectations. The class has helped me understand horses even more and improved my bodywork skills. Joseph and Jacqueline are so encouraging and understanding. This is the most informative equine class that I have ever taken. Truly amazing.! ! ! ! ! Angela Smith! Seattle, WA

This class helped me step out of my comfort zone and explore new possibilities. It’s more than just an equine class, this also includes personal growht. A wonderful class that helps achieve goals in both areas.! ! ! Allison Wetter! Bend, OR

This course is where you really root into the realms of true Structural Integration. Get ready to dive into the entire connective tissue field, energetics and all -- gladly, with joy and confidence.! ! ! ! ! Helen Shaudys! SI practitioner, Washington

You get more than you think from this class. In a spiritual way, you end up being a person both for you and for the horses. This class improved my relationship with horses and took me to a level of communications way beyond anything I could imagine.! ! ! ! ! Zandra Puig! ! Reproductive veterinarian, Florida

Everything about this class is a positive experience -- fellow students, the horses, and working with Joseph. Very worthwhile and immediately applicable.! ! ! ! ! Jessica Levy! ! Veterinarian! ! Minnesota

Learning this new fascial and bone work lets me bring so much more to the table. In more ways than I can describe, this work is life-changing. It brings fulfillment like I’ve never experienced, with challenges, too, that teach things I had not expected.! ! ! ! ! Lauren Lytle!! Trainer! ! Washington

A huge thank you to both of you for your compassion, awareness and hospitality.  Your endless coaching and encouraging of our intuitive nature has encouraged my awakening of my inner being.   I am able to maintain the intuitive presence longer and to know when I have lost it to my left brain. There is so much more to thank you for! I am so excited to be on this pathway. This work is fabulous! ! ! Kathy Kuharski! ! Montana

This training has challenged me to develop my intuitive brain and to learn how to recognize the horse’s energetic shifts. The course opened up doors for me into areas of perception outside my scientific training. Also want to mention, I really enjoyed staying in the student housing with Bonnie. She is a beautiful person and the perfect hostess for students.! ! ! ! ! Stefani Melvin! ! ! Idaho

This course changed and reaffirmed how I look at the world and horses. I was taught more than just bodywork on horses. I learned about energy and intention and how to relate that to my entire life.! ! ! ! Kiara Bernat!! ! ! Massachusetts

This class has given me more confidence and safety skills around other horses. It’s helped me develop better communications skills and certainly ways to help them more fluidly and easily. I learned skills beyond what I anticipated and will be able to use these skills with other animals as well. The calmness Joseph imparts to the horse flows over to all aspects of the training.! ! ! ! ! Margo Cooper! Physical Therapist! ! Washington

I’m more aware of my surroundings and understand the role that Structural Integration can have on my health. This is such important work and I’m thrilled to be part of it.! ! ! ! ! Michelle McGovern! ! North Carolina

This class has given me the education, experience and tools I need to embark on a bodywork career with horses. On a deeper level, it has reconnected me to a part of my spirit and life journey that I had been unintentionally neglecting. The class is fantastic. ! ! ! ! ! Kristina McCormick! ! Washington

I am so much more open in heart and mind. This training is helping me to work with horses in the most profound way possible. This work deepens and enhances life! Nancy Johnson-Rose Osteopathic physician, Iowa
