Course Title: Teachers as Researchers
Session Description: Traditionally, educational research is performed when "outsiders" study teacher practices. “Teachers as Researchers” puts the power of educational research in the hands of teachers in their own classrooms. This is known as “action research" where a teacher closely studies what they are doing through inquiry and takes action to improve one's own practice by analyzing relevant data. An individual teacher may examine something in his or her own classroom. A group of teachers may collaborate in researching a shared interest. In this session, we will go through a 5-step process, including: problem formulation, data collection, data analysis, reporting of results, and action planning. Never underestimate the power of research!
Objectives:
Formulate a problem to research that impacts student success
Collect and analyze data specifically related to the formulated problem
Plan and implement instructional improvements based on the research completed Pre-Requisites: Commit to collecting data outside of the course sessions from your classroom.
