The Writer’s CompassHow does a writer tell the story he or she wants to tell and capture an audience’s heart? Regardless of genre or format, to tell a story effectively, writers must first sort through all the ideas they’ve been toying with—organize them, whip them into shape, and turn them into great writing. In this workshop you will learn how to do just that. First we will go over the essential elements of good storytelling using a structure chart. That chart will then become a guide to creating a story map which will tell you what you know about your story, and more importantly, what you don’t know. Finally, we will explore the tools to help you find ideas and events to fill in what’s missing, and develop your own storytelling compass.

Starting & Completing That BookAdmit it—you have a book lurking in your soul. It’s a good book that would entertain, educate, and benefit many readers. The one failing with this book is that you can’t seem to get it organized and on paper. This course is a step-by-step procedure for organizing your thoughts into a document. You will learn how to take your basic book concept and divide it into several logical and manageable segments. With discipline and a reasonable writing schedule that you create, you can make the writing process work for you. In addition, you will learn how to market your book as you continue to write it.
