Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Description: This workshop offers an introduction to Universal Design for Learning Outcomes: This introduction is open to all teachers with special emphasis for general education classrooms. The focus will be on how to design lessons with Universal Design for Learning so that different needs of students in General Education classrooms can be met. Universal design for learning, or UDL for short, is a strategy that encompasses a wide set of teaching techniques, allowing multiple ways for teachers to present information and for students to engage in lessons and demonstrate what they know. It encourages students to use a variety of techniques. UDL acknowledges the need to reduce learning barriers and incorporate activities that benefit all students. One of UDL’s strengths is that it addresses the learning process from all angles, including the teacher’s delivery of the material, the student’s expression of understanding, and the teacher’s assessment of a student’s progress.
