BedsidePEWSTM was developed by Dr. Christopher Parshuram, pediatric physician and senior scientist at the SickKids Research Institute.
The system was validated in a study conducted across four university-affi liated hospitals using data from 2,074 patients. Results showed that the BedsidePEWSTM score identifi ed patients at risk of a code blue with at least one hour’s notice.
The BedsidePEWSTM solution charts and evaluates seven vitals signs that are part of routine clinical assessments (i.e., heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, etc.) and outputs a single score, indicating the severity of illness for hospitalized children.
