Expert care. Everywhere for children.

Dedicated to improving bedside pediatric care everywhere.

5,000 children in North American hospitals experience code blue incidents every year.

Two thirds of these incidents result in death or neurological defi cit.

Treating a code blue event costs approximately $40,000. Intensive care for a patient after a code blue is approximately $4,000 a day.

The Bedside Pediatric Early Warning System (BedsidePEWSTM) was developed to accurately identify hospitalized children who are at risk of a cardiopulmonary arrest, allowing healthcare providers to intervene before a code blue occurs.

Early detection of patients’ deteriorating conditions:

Make intervention a priority Eliminate complexityOther severity of illness scores are too complex and do not allow healthcare providers to act on them in real-time scenarios.

BedsidePEWSTM provides an objective score which creates awareness of the child’s severity of illness and gives staff an early indication of potential risk and vulnerability for clinical deterioration.

Clinicians can match the appropriate level of care with clinical need and patients get the right treatment at the right time.

Visually track your patients’ condition

World-leading healthcare expertiseThe BedsidePEWSTM system pays for itself by elminating the costs associated with code-blue events and intensive care.

BedsidePEWSTM was developed by Dr. Christopher Parshuram, pediatric physician and senior scientist at the SickKids Research Institute.

The system was validated in a study conducted across four university-affi liated hospitals using data from 2,074 patients. Results showed that the BedsidePEWSTM score identifi ed patients at risk of a code blue with at least one hour’s notice.

The BedsidePEWSTM solution charts and evaluates seven vitals signs that are part of routine clinical assessments (i.e., heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, etc.) and outputs a single score, indicating the severity of illness for hospitalized children.

Make decisions fast

Using this objective score, clinicians don’t have to make tricky judgement calls like whether or not to wake up an attending physician at 3 am or when to call in the ICU team. BedsidePEWSTM improves communication and clinical fl ow.

Hospital ROI

· Our estimates predict hospitals will break- even after averting four code-blue events and start saving money immediately there after. · BedsidePEWSTM allows clinicians to focus on critically-ill children while providing parents of patients with peace of mind that the best early-warning innovation is helping to monitor their child`s health.
