GCSE Single Award Science is a two year unitised course. It is a good
choice for you if you want a broad overview of science to GCSE level
but don’t want to study Biology, Chemistry and Physics in detail. GCSE
Single Award Science builds on the science you have studied at Key
Stage 3. However, because this GCSE is designed for breadth of
study rather than depth it is not intended for progression to an A-
level course.
What is GCSE Science Single Award ?
Students who study Single Award Science have a scientific foundation
which is beneficial to those intending to study NVQs or
apprenticeships in vocational areas; e.g. Beauty, Hairdressing,
Childcare, Meat Technology, Electrical Installation, Plumbing and
Catering & Hospitality.
Students will learn important skills such as working with data, problem
solving, investigating methods and drawing conclusions.
What can I do with this qualification?
Single Award Science is assessed throughout the course by three 1
hour written exams in Biology, Chemistry and Physics and a practical
skills assessment and written exam.
Students will be challenged to maximise their potential and will be
entered for the tier which best suits their needs and abilities.
