CHAIRMAN MESSAGE Mrs. M. REGEENA JEPPIAAR, B. Tech, M.B.A., Ph.D. Chairman & Managing Director, Jeppiaar Group of Institutions

I am extremely happy to know that Jeppiaar Engineering College (MBA) has proposed to

have Fourth International Conference on Management (ICOM) on 23

rd and 24

th March,

2018. It is with utmost pleasure that I present the Proceedings of Jeppiaar Engineering College

(MBA) (ICOM) ‘2018 on “Innovations in Business and Management”. The Proceedings is a

very momentous way of projecting the inexhaustible quench of knowledge towards research and

development.

This International Conference conducted in our college paves the way for young students

to learn and comprehend the subject and how it has to be applied in real life situation, where they

aspire to get placement in the corporate sector. Modern economies are often referred to as

innovation economies. Humans engaged in business world are continuously in the pursuit of

wealth through innovation. It is an open truth that an Organization’s success does not come from

its chandeliers, gardens, ambience, acres of lands rather it comes from its intellectual and

systems capabilities. Innovation and information are the crucial assets of a business and there is a

need to learn to handle these assets in new ways. Traditional monitoring systems, which were

designed to deal with tangible inputs & outputs, are no longer adequate to survive in the market.

Jeppiaar Engineering College (MBA) is committed to instill knowledge, skill and

positive attitude among students of all professional disciplines. The exemplary effort put in by

the staff members’ students is appreciable and I congratulate them for the same. I wish them

good luck in all their endeavors.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dr. G. DILEEP, B. E., M.B.A., M.Phil., Ph.D.,

Principal, Jeppiaar Engineering College (MBA)

I am extremely delighted in the release of Proceedings “ICOM 2018” for the Fourth

International Conference on Management on 23rd

& 24th

March, 2018. This International

conference will provide a platform to the staff and the students to show their talent beyond the

confines of their curriculum activities. In the present scenario of globalization, employability of

the educated is a big issue facing India today.

About 26 million young are being added every year to the existing education system and

most of them are still not found employable by the market. The youth of a nation can lead the

nation to prosperity if and only if they have jobs (work) and this is possible only if they have the

right skills and attitude for a job.

This conference on “Innovations in Business and Management” brings the latest

business processes and techniques applied in the arena of business management. Business

executives, Academicians, Research Scholars and management students will get benefited by

this International conference.

I am sure that this conference will bring the best out of the staff and the students, as well

as provide a sea of intellectual excellence and imaginative innovation to navigate and conquer. I

wish the conference a great success and hope it will receive an enthusiastic response from the

target audience.

SESSION CHAIR Mr.S. Vikram Sivaraman

Asst. Vice President [Business Analysis]

Fhyzics Business Consultants Private Limited

I would like to thank Jeppiaar College of Engineering for having given me this

wonderful opportunity to contribute in this column on the occasion of the “Innovations in

Business & Management (IBM ‘18)” conference. As the Chair-person of the conference I

would like to share with you 3 key learnings from my experience as an Assistant Vice

President with Fhyzics Business Consultants Private Limited that would be of importance

to all of you attending this conference

Professional Certifications: In this highly competitive environment we are in today, it is

very imperative that one has the competency and also show cases the commitment to a

profession which is where a certification comes handy.

Positive attitude: Adopting a positive attitude will help you cope more easily with your

daily affairs of life in addition to bringing out constructive changes. It enables you to stay

calm and organized even during the time of crisis and not give up at any point of time. As

a result, you not only encourage yourself but also others around you to go the extra mile.

Interpersonal relationship: People with interpersonal skills are construed as being calm,

confident, optimistic and appealing for others to work with you. This way we can always

achieve more than what we could as an individual.

This conference gains prominence especially when a lot of organizations are

focussing on innovation as the key driver to their growth and sustenance. I am sure this

conference will provide a sound platform to share and discuss on the various innovations

happening today and anticipated in the near future in addition to highlighting the

solutions available to countering the practical challenges faced today.

In today’s environment organisations that focus on prioritising innovation dole out

winning products or services year after year and revolutionise the game in various sectors. Such

conferences often provide the required impetus and spark for various students and participants to

explore on the diversemarket needs and grow in your ecosystem and innovate the business or the

processes to improve both the top and bottom-line performance while building sustainable

advantage.

So, to summarise with all the 3 learnings mentioned and the insights you will be exposed

in this conference I am sure that you will go on to successfully innovate a world of changes

around you.

RESOURCE PERSON

SYED NAZIMUDDEEN

Management Software - Expert

I am glad to know that Jeppiaar Engineering College is conducting National Level

Management workshop on Financial Modeling using Excel on 24th

March, 2018.

As the Resource person of the Workshop, “Learning is not attained by chance. It

must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence. Learning is a treasure that

will follow its owner everywhere”. Financial modeling helps us to analyze overall

financial health of a company. In the current scenario technology, age, financial

modeling has become the buzz word and automation is the key in today’s fast paced

corporate world. With the numbers becoming complex, financial modeling has become

time consuming, monotonous and exhaustive. With the use of computer software, you

can do large complex calculations within fraction of seconds. To click a button on the

computer screen and it’s all done!

But it is not that simple. It takes a lot of effort and time to build one such financial

model to work on. To understand the basic concepts of finance, financial modeling; and,

at the same time we have to be well versed with the software. We need to learn the

relevant commands, functions and algorithm in excel. This National Level Management

Workshop on “Financial Modeling using Excel” is a quest for research development

engraved in the mind of our staff members and students. I hereby congratulate the

staff members and students of this college who have worked with fervor in bringing

this workshop to great success and releasing the souvenir.

I extend my warm and best wishes for the success of this workshop.

ABSTRACT

In today’s competitive environment where the customer has got tremendous choice for

selecting brands, it is a very challenging task for a marketer to attract new customers and to

retain the old customers. For this purpose, the marketer of any product especially FMCG

products, uses market penetration to position their product in the mind framework of the

customer and established their brand image in the market. Previously FMCG companies focused

only the urban market. But national and international companies changed their focus to tap the

potential market, that is, rural market. Today rural India is attracting every corporate house in

India and around the world and has been considered as the most lucrative market. Many FMCG

companies and regional companies compete with one another but FMCG companies have a

lion’s share in the rural market. Many factors influence the rural consumers to go for FMCG.

This study focuses on the market penetration of FMCG in rural market, the factors influencing

the customer preference towards FMCG and to analyze the impact of loaded factors on the

satisfaction of rural consumers towards FMCG. Primary data is collected from 175 respondents.

The focus of the study is limited to the Personal care products offered by the FMCG. KEY

Capital market is vital for the development and strength of economy. A strong and

vibrant capital market assists corporate world initiatives, finance and exploration of new

processes and instruments facilitates management of financial risk. Retail investor is the

backbone of the capital market. But with the expansion of the capital market, scams and

anomalies, also multiplies. It ultimately leads to the dilution of the faith of the small investor,

mutual funds, pension funds, Foreign Institutional Investor and insurance companies in the

capital. Therefore, sustainable and pragmatic development of capital market has been essential.

Understanding the need of the hour Government of India had initiated certain steps towards

rebuild the volume of activities of the investor in the capital market. These are popularly known

as capital market reforms. This includes educating capital market participates regarding their

rights and duties for proper functioning of capital market. After a decade of these reforms, the

questions are whether the faith of the investor had built up again in the market or not? Is the

investor satisfied with these reforms? In this regard we are trying to explore the answer of these

questions.

PAPER ID: ICOMIBM007

ABSTRACT

President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill were, great friends. Once, Roosevelt wanted

to meet Churchill without any prior engagement or appointment. When Roosevelt entered into

his room, Churchill was completely naked and was getting himself massaged. Churchill was not

at all ashamed. He said, “Everything is open before you, I have nothing to hide from you”. This

is, indeed, the spirit of transparency where everything is open except the physical body.

Transparency and accountability are the two critical words in the corporate world especially in

the areas of functional management. The functional areas in business management are concerned

with the practical application of management principles in different fields of day-to-day business

activities. These areas are human resource management, advertisement, marketing, finance,

information technology, and so on. In all such activities, cognitive ethical principles need to be

followed. The general ethical principles that these areas are supposed to apply are: justice and

fairness in all dealings, producing good consequences to individuals and society, no harm or

injury to any individual, respect towards individuals, obeying of certain categorical imperatives,

respect for individual rights including human rights and creation of common good or social

welfare.

ABSTRACT Globalization, technological complexities, advances in communication, information

technology and transportation have radically altered the manner organizations manage design,

manufacturing, and all aspects of business. Increased competition and uncertainty drives

companies to focus on core competences, shift production units to low cost countries and

establish dispersed networks of organizations involved in innovation.

The grand strategy to surmount this predicament lies in innovation in business and

management, with the aid of judicious ecological principles of sustainable economic

development. Deliberate and conscious steps to conserve natural resources by engaging

environmentally aware human capital called green human capital is of utmost and inevitable

need of the hour. Earth’s resources are eroded, far exceeding its capacity in several forms e.g.,

environmental and ecological degradation like afforestation, soil erosion, aquifer deficiency,

rangeland deterioration, air pollution, and climate change, and shrinking biodiversity. All of

which cumulatively have massive deleterious impact on the ecosystem. An unbridled pursuit of

such a journey would eventually lead to catastrophe, due to irrevocable depletion of natural

resources on which mankind is dependent.
