Highlights of 2016-2017

Achievements

On 15th October 2016, Mr. Kamlakar & Ms. Madhavi received a certificate of appreciation by VESLARC for innovative teaching method.

On 2nd March 2017, in Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony, TYBSc Comp Sci student Ms Vaishali Gupta got “Best Student” Runner up Award.

Our students participated in various college activities which not helped to popularize the activity but also gave our students a different type of exposure. In Talentia - Third prize in “PPT Presentation”, Second prize in “Skit Competition”,

Consolation prize in “Singing Competition” & First prize in “Group Dance Competition”. In sports - first prize in “Kabaddi”, first prize in “Football”, Third prize in “Relay”. In “Book Review” competition , 3 students got Second Prize in the Marathi & English

Categories. In LLLE - 1 team of students got the first prize In Word War event of Literary Committee - 1 Team of Computer Science participated and

got third rank. In Essay Competition of Marathi Bhasha Divas - 2 students got first and second prize.

Research

By Faculties Ms Madhavi Vaidya presented a paper titled “Comparative Analysis of Various Distributed File

Systems & Performance Evaluation using MapReduce Implementation” in Second IEEE International Conference on Recent Advances and Innovations in Engineering- held during 23rd to 25th December 2016. Her paper was selected in selective 88 papers out of Total 253 papers, which were received. Her paper was well appreciated and will be published in IEEE explore in due time.

Ms. Madhavi Vaidya published a paper titled “Study and experimental setup of testing of performance parameters in various distributed file system” in IJCA online journal on 16th

February 2017.

By Students 2 students Ms. Harshala Dalvi(“Privacy Implication of Knowledge Managment Tool”) & Ms.

Janane Pillay(“Methods of Deep Learning : A Knowledge Management Tool”) presented research papers individually under guidance of Ms Madhavi Vaidya on Knowledge Management on 24th September 2016 at National Conference held at Pillai College, Rasayani. The papers were co-authored by Ms. Madhavi Vaidya.

Placements

Lnt Infotech visited VES College on 24th August 2016 for the students of TYComp Sci, IT,

Maths & Physics. They conducted various rounds such as Aptitude Test, GD, Technical Interview, HR Interview. 99 students appeared for the test. 6 computer science from TY were selected from the entire process.

6 students from TYBSc Comp Sci visited K J Somaiyya on 17th September 2016 on account of

placement drive organized by the college. Few got calls for next rounds from NIIT and IT Source.

Ms. Madhavi Vaidya attended a meeting on 24th November for signing MoU with Eddify alongwith members of placement committee.

On 17th January 2017, Nokia HERE conducted online Aptitude test for TYBSc Comp Sci. 27 Students of TYBSc Comp Sci.attempted this Test. Out of that 15 Students are selected for the interview.

On 25th and 27th January 2017, Textronix conducted interview for TYBSc Comp Sci students at Mahape. 22 students attended the interview.

On 31st January 2017, Nokia HERE conducted interview for the students who were shortlisted in the aptitude test.15 Students attended the interview, out of that 5 are selected.

On 4th February 2017, Ugam conducted interview for TYBSc Comp Sci students attended the interview at Thane. Seema Jillella students cleared Aptitude Test and waiting for interview call.

On 8th February 2017, TCS conducted interview for TYBSc Comp Sci students at Thane. 8 students attended the interview. 7 students cleared Aptitude Test.

On 27th February 2017, Infosys Ltd conducted pool campus drive in Pillai College, Panvel. 13 students of TYBsc Comp Sci students attended the interview, out of that 9 are selected for the final round.

On 28th February 2017, Infosys conducted Final round of interview in Pillai College, Panvel. 8 students attended and all are selected. On 28th February 2017, Infosys conducted Final round of interview in Pillai College, Panvel. 8 students attended and all are selected.

TCS conducted interviews for the TYBsc Comp.Sci. students.AmitMohite and Manjeet Bhatt selected in the interview.

Internship

1 student of TYBSc Computer Science(Manjeet Bhatt) did an internship at Seneragy from 4th

April to 4th June 2016 2 students of SYBSc Computer Science(Tabrez Shaikh & Nikhil Babu) did an internship at

AERB from 25th April 16 to 20th May 2016 at AERB(Atomic Energy Regulatory Board) of BARC

Mr. Chinmay Dhumal of FYBSc Computer Science worked in IIT at CTARA department from 11th May 2016 to 11th June 2016 to develop a decision support system for allocating drinking water to draught affected areas.

Major Event

“Science Mela” got conducted on 22nd December 2016. The students of Computer Science Department participated enthusiastically and conducted various events such as – Hardware Workshop where they showed Computer Hardware parts and their assembly & Keyboard Games in the stilt area. In lab, the students conducted sessions on Introduction to Online Blogging, Photoshop, Career in Computer Science after X/XII, Dumb Charades on technical words. The Events were scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. More than 250 Students from various schools and junior college visited and enjoyed the sessions. The innovative theme of our department “The Jungle of Technologies” was appreciated by all.

Activities conducted under DBT

35 students of SYBSc Computer Science participated in Spoken Tutorial Online Course of IIT-B on 24th & 25th October between 9 am to 11 am & 11.30 am to 2 pm.

35 students of SYBSc Computer Science participated in Spoken Tutorial Online Course of IIT-B on 26th October between 9.30 am to 12 pm.

Computer Science department through DBT Star College scheme, conducted an Android workshop of 2 days of 16 hours on 8th & 9th November. 28 students of Computer Science participated in the same.

On 9th December 2016, the Department of Computer Science organized Industrial Visit to CDAC, Pune through DBT’s Star College Scheme. 92 students of FY & SYBSc Comp Sci along with 3 staff members visited the institute. They conducted a seminar on High performance Computing and also demonstrated the model of PARAM Yuva II.

On 2nd & 3rd January 2017, a 16-hour workshop on “Cloud Computing & BigData” was conducted mainly for the students of TY(25) & FY(5) BSc Computer Science. It was conducted by Robokart.com | E-Cell IIT-Bombay as part of National Workshop Series.

On 14th & 15th January 2017, a workshop on “Communication for Success” was conducted by Ms. Sneha Hariharan(Capgemini) for 20 students of FY & SYBSc Computer Science. It was 14 hour activity.

Collaboration Activities 4 students (2 SY & 2 TY) who had participated in Deep Blue Competition visited Mastek

Company to give presentation of their project to the employees of the company on 4th May 2016. On 20th August 2016, Mr. Sudhakar Ram(Managing Director, Mastek) & Ms. Jashoshree (HR,

Mastek) visited our college to explain Deep Blue Competition of this year. They explained the various problems and rules. 26 FY students, 20 SY Students & 1 TY student attended the seminar.

3 teams consisting of students of FY & SY got shortlisted for the Deep Blue Competition on1st October 2016. The final competition will be in the month of February.

Mastek conducted “Project Deep Blue” Grand Finale, an app development competition in our college on 22nd January 2017. 300 teams from all Science/Engineering colleges of Mumbai participated in the competition. 3 teams of FY and SYBSc Comp Sci got shotlisted in top 20 teams and got super team appreciation certificates.

Computer Science Association activities

On 10th December 2016, Computer Science department organized “Computer Science Association (CSA) Inauguration”. All the students of Computer Science department participated in the same. 2 Last years’ Toppers (Mr. Sandesh & Mr Aaksh) were felicitated in the same. Mr. Govind Jha was also invited to give a talk on “IT in Banking”.

On 30th March 2017 Computer Science department organized “Project Demonstration” competition. 8 Students of TYBsc Comp. Sci. participated in the competition. Ms. Manasi Patil one of ex-student and ex-employee of TCS evaluated the projects. Ms Ankita Kittur got the first prize, Mr. Aman & Mr Radheshyam got the second prize and Ms. Ashwini got the third prize.

Seminars / Workshops/ Certificate Courses Mr. Maneesh Jha, Director of Squad Infotech Pvt Ltd. conducted a session on 11th June 2016 on

“How to enhance employability” for the students of SYBSc & TYBSc Computer Science. 48 students attended the session

On 5th July 2016, Mr. Sandip Jjethani from ATS Infotech conducted a seminar for 1 hour for the students of SY & TY BSc Computer Science to share various Microsoft courses. 60 students attended the seminar.

On 14th July 2016, Ms. Devdutta Paul conducted an orientation related to soft skill program available from Barclays’ for the students of TYBSc Computer Science for 1 hour. 26 students attended the same.

On 2nd August 2016, Mr. Deepak Bhattacharya, Director of Career Training Academy(through the reference of our Ex-Student Ms. Deepika Jain) gave an idea of field called Dermatoglyphics to the students of FYBSc Comp Sci. This test helps you to know what career path will be suitable to anyone. 33 FY Students attended the same.

On 14th, 20th & 21st August 2016, the students of Computer Science(SY-20 , TY-13) attended a certified 18 hour course of Microsoft. It was taken by Mr. Parth Shukla of ATS Infotecch.

Ms Janane Pillay from SYBSc Comp Sc has attended the seminar on UPSC Preparation conducted by Career Guidance Cell on 17th September 2016.

Mr. Gaurav Vasvani, Engineering student of VESIT gave a seminar on Wordpress Technology on 8th October 2016 for the students of FYBSc Computer Science. 40 students attended the session.

Mr. Joel Divekar visited Computer Science Department on 22nd October to discuss about internship projects. 6 students participated in the discussion.

Mr. Naveen Gupta conducted an introductory session for 28 students of Computer Science on Android on 7th November for about 3 hours.

On 20th January 2017, Squad Infotech conducted seminar on “Testing” for Computer Scienc Students. 59 SY and TYBSc Comp Sci students attended the seminar

On 17th February 2017, Ms. Meeta Brahmbhatt Conducted session on “How to maintain class health and how to concentrate”.Students of FYBsc Comp. Sci. attended the session.

On 9th March 2017 Computer Science department organized online session of “IIT Spoken

Tutorial” On C.27students of FYBsc Comp.Sci. attended the same.

ACP 13 students of FYBSc & 5 students of SYBSc Computer Science participated in ACP. They had

opted various subjects hence their lectures(as per their electives) got conducted in April-May 2016

On 9th July 2016, Computer Science students who were part of ACP, presented their final posters to the external judges and to the students. Two students, Mr Jayesh Rithadiya (2nd) and Ms. Seema Jillella (3rd) of TY got prize for their presentation.

Educational Visits On 20th August 2016, SY(7) & TY(5) Students visited SEED for a seminar on aptitude test. On 28th August 2016, students of FY(13) & SY(1) attended the full-day workshop on Drupal at

IIT-Mumbai. 32 TY Students visited Barclay’s office in association with GTT Connect and it was NASSCOM initiative supported by Barclays @Goregaon 1.30 – 4 pm. It was arranged for IT students also. They went on various days in groups viz - 02/09/2016, 06/09/16, 09/09/16, 20/09/2016, 23/09/16 & 28/09/16.

Participation in inter-collegiate events

Mathematics department organized “M3 Contest” on 19th December 2016. SYBsc(C.S.) student Siddhartha Chaki got First Prize in the same.

The Events were scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. More than 250 Students from various schools and junior college visited and enjoyed the sessions. The innovative theme of our department was appreciated by all the visitors and Principal Dr. J.K. Phadnis.

IIT Bombay organized “Techfest” on 16th & 18th December 2016. 14 TYBsc(C.S) students got prizes in Oracle debugging and SalesForce App competition.

Information Technology department organized Sagacity on 20th & 21st December 2016. 7 students of FYBsc (C.S) and 3 students of SYBsc (C.S) got prizes in Textpedia, Sql Mania, Sudoku, Game of facts, Mock CID, Group Discussion, and Pictionary.

Mathematics department organized “Mathemight” on 9th January 2017. 4 students of FYBSc Comp Sci participated in the “Poster Presentation” competition. 2 students of FYBSc comp Sci got Second Prize in the same.

BBI department organized Euphonity on 20th January 2017. SYBSc Comp Sci student Sonali Salunkhe got First Prize in “PPT Presentation” Competition. Also SYBSc Comp Sci student

Prathamesh Hire and his group got Consolation Prize in the same.

On 17th March 2017 Shah & Anchor Kutchhi Engg. College Organized various sessions on Converging Technologies, Marketing Technology, Internet of Things (IOT), Entrepreneurship, Cloud computing.15 students of FYBsc Comp.Sci. attended the same.

Best practices

2 students of TYBSc Comp Sci(Ankita & Jayesh) conducted a seminar on “How to give presentations” for the students of FY & SY Comp Sci on 23rd July 2016. 44 students attended the same.

On 30th July 2016, Mr. Chinmay Dhumal from SYBSc Comp Sci conducted a hands-on session on Postgres SQL for the students of FY & SYBSc Comp Sci for 1.5 hours. 28 students attended the session.

Mr. Kamlakar Bhopatkar conducted a GD in the class of FYBSc Computer Science on 29th July

2016 on the topic of “Whether Pokemon Go should be banned in India”. 6 students participated in GD.

Ms. Riddhi Singh from FYBSc took a lecture on SYBSc Comp Sci for 1 hour on 26th September 2016. 34 students attended.

Ms. Madhavi Vaidya conducted a GD on SYBSc Comp Sci class on “Is Demonetization a necessity” on 15th November. 20 students attended.

On 2nd December 2016, Mr Manjeet and Ms. Vaishali from TYBSc Comp Sci, conducted a 2 hour session on “Introduction to Shell Commands” for the students of FYBSc Comp Sci. 42 students attended the same.

Ms. Madhavi Vaidya conducted a GD in the class of SYBSc Computer Science on 8th February 2017 on the topic of “Trump’s Policies” and “Are social networking sites taxing for human beings and young generation”. 15 students participated in activity of GD when conducted.

Extension work

2 students of FYBSc Computer Science(Rahul Maurya & Dhanis Kanojia) helped our college Library to digitize the question papers which are maintained in files in the month of May 2016.

As a part of ACP, 6 students of SYBSc Computer Science completed (30 hours each) of social work in NASEOH during 16th May 2016 to 21st May 2016.

3 students of FYBSc Computer Science(NSS) helped in the Blood Donation Camp organized in July 2016.

4 students of FYBSc Comp Sci participated in NSS –Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan program conducted on 21st August 2016 at Ambarnath & near by villages such as Thakurpada.

On 17th September, a GD was conducted by LLLEI, 8 students particuipated from SYBSc Comp Sc and attended this program.

On 20th September 2016, as a part of NSS, 11 students and 2 students respectively from First Year BSc Computer Sci participated in both the rallies.

14 students of SYBSc Computer Science did a social work in NASEOH during 2nd November to 13th November 2016 for about 50 hours. 1 student of TYBSc did social work of 30 hours during 2nd Nov to 9th Nov.

4 students of SYBSc Computer Science went to St. Jude’s Child Care Center during 27th October to 18th November 2016 and worked there for about 29 hours.

Students of Computer Science who were part of LLLE participated in the poster making competition organized by LLLE on 3rd January 2017.1 team of SY Computer Science(Shravani, Harshala & Nisha) students got the first prize.

Alumni activities On 16th July 2016, Ms. Rameshwari Selvaraj, alumni student who is working as Senior Security

Analyst in TechMahindra conducted a seminar on “Application Security” for the students of FY & TYBSc Comp Sci for 2 hours. 47 students attended the same.

On 11th Feb 2017 department conducted seminar of Mr. Bhargav Adusumalli,Testing Executive of Infosys Ltd. on Testing, Agile Vs Waterfall.

On 7th and 8th March 2017 Computer Science department conducted Photoshop workshop of Mr.Ravindran Balakrishnan for FYBscCom.Sci. Students. 35 students attended the same.

Staff activities

Mr. Kamlakar Bhopatkar of Computer Science Department attended a workshop on SYBSc

Computer Science Revised Syllabus conducted for the whole day on 11th July 2016 at University of Mumbai, Kalina.

Mr. Kamlakar Bhopatkar of Computer Science Department attended a workshop on FYBSc Computer Science Revised Syllabus conducted for the whole day on 26th July 2016 at University of Mumbai, Kalina. He also acted as one of the resource person for FY Sem II Python Paper.

On 1st July, a SDP was organized to train the 2 staff members of the department of computer science for 3 hours on software called MMLOGIC. It was conducted by Ms. Dhanashri Joshi.

On 3rd August 2016, the Dept. of Comp. Sci. organized an orientation session for the students of FY Computer Science and their parents. Principal Madam also attended the meeting. One of our Ex-student Ms. Reshmi Nadar also shared her experience as a student in VES.

Mr. Kamlakar Bhopatkar of Computer Science Department conducted an orientation for the teachers on “Do’s and Don’ts in using Computer/Internet” on 7th October 2016 for 1 hour. 21 teachers attended the session.

On 8th October 2016, parents of some FY Students were called to discuss about their performance and attendance. 10 parents attended.

Madhavi Vaidya conducted a session each for FYBSc and SYBSc Computer Science on How to Review a Book on 2nd and 8th December 2016 respectively. 15 students from FYBSc and 18 students from SYBSc Comp Sc attended the same..

On 9th January 2017, Mr. Kamlakar Bhopatkar visited to Rizvi College as LIC committee member.

On 11th January 2017, Ms Madhavi Vaidya visited to Xavier’s College as LIC Committee member.

Mr. Kamlakar Bhopatkar reviewed a book titled “Programming With C” written for FYBSc Computer Science new syllabus by Himalaya Publications which was published in January 2017.

On 29th March 2017 VES College under Staff Development Program conducted a session of PiyaMukherji(Director, VESLARC) and her team on “Holistic Health hrough body, Yoga, mind and food”. All the Faculties of Computer Science department attended the same.

On 31st March 2017 VES College under Staff Development Program conducted a session of Dr. David Chandy on Diabetes and Thyroid related diseases. All the Faculties of Computer Science department attended the same.

On 1st April 2017, VES college conducted an “Induction Program” Ms Priyanka Sul attended the same.
