Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat le type do you accept for printing artwork?JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF (attened image) at 300 DPI.

How can I send you the les?Files can be uploaded and shared through E-mail, Google Drive, Dropbox or can be burned to CD/DVD or copied to USB and mailed to us. For large les (if possible) sending them on a CD/DVD or USB is preferred.

What is the appropriate image resolution for printing artwork?DuraPRINTS produces a good quality print at minimum resolution of 150 DPI. The artwork le resolution should be between 150 to 300 DPI/PPI. In the print, pixles per inch or dots per inch impact the size of an image on the fabric. You should make sure when creating your designs, print dimension for every inch must have minimum of 150 pixels. For example, if you want to print an image of 6” x 6” that measures at least 900 by 900 pixels, since 6 inches x 150 pixles = 900. This formula can be used to size any image just multiply the print width and height in inches by 150 pixels. For best print quality the resolution should be 300 DPI.

What are the requirements for digital photographs and scanned images? For a digital photograph or scanned image, you should use your camera or scanner using a high quality setting. This allows you to scale up the image without losing quality. How much you can scale up the image again depends upon the pixels. For digital photographs - generally a 3 megapixel image will give good results on a 24” x 24” fabric. A 10 megapixel image will give good results on a 48” x 48” fabric. Scanned artworks - Typically scanners starts from 150 DPI going up to 2400 DPI for professional ones. Artwork on paper (11” x 8.5”) scanned at 300 DPI is good for print size approx. 18” x 14”. The same sheet size scanned at 600 DPI is good for approx. 36” x 28” print. The quality/results of the image also depends on the weave of the fabric i.e. coarse or ne weave. Satin weave with lament yarns gives the most vivid like results.

Does my design le need to be saved in repeats? You can just provide us your design and with our software we will create the repeats. A basic repeat creates tiles of your design straight up and down. Depending upon the type of design we can also create seamless repeats both length and width wise.

What is the maximum available printing width? The maximum width we can print is 1.8 meters.

Do you supply the fabric?Yes, we have fabrics in stock suitable for many applications.

What fabric can you print on?We can print on polyester, cotton, viscose, rayon including cotton with viscose or rayon blended with it.

What if you don’t have the kind of fabric I want?We can print on fabrics supplied by you provided they are in roll form and prepared for printing.

How long will it take to process my order? (Or) What is the turnaround time? For sampling or orders upto 100 meters on average is 4-6 working days or more (depending on how much work is needed to make a printable le). For orders larger than 100 meters, time needs to discussed & scheduled.

What’s the minimum order for printing? There are no minimums! But cost of sampling or small orders will be higher.

Does the print aect the fabric?Sublimation printing on polyester fabrics or reactive printing on cotton does not change the feel of the fabric. The print is not on the surface, it becomes part of the fabric/yarn.

Is the printed fabric washable?Yes the printed fabrics are washable and colourfast.

Whats’ the cost of the printing? The cost varies for small to large orders. Please contact us to discuss rates.

Do you do custom design? We do oer a custom design service. Please contact us for further information and a quote for this service.

Technical Details of Upholstery Fabric

The following contract fabric specications/guidelines will ensure that the fabrics you specify perform up to contract standards and pass all applicable testing. The categories describe performance features as measured by speciedmethods under standard laboratory conditions. The guidelines are based on recommendations by the Association of Contract Textile (ACT) and are for information purposes only. They are made available to assist speciers and end-users in evaluating certain characteristics of contracttextiles.

1. Abrasion

The surface wear of upholstery fabric caused by rubbing and contact with another fabric. The Martindale abrasion test ASTM D4966-98 is the method used to predict wearability. This is an oscillcating test. Fabric samples are mounted at and rubbed in a gure eight like motion using a piece of worsted wool cloth as the abradant. The number of cycles that the fabric endures before it shows objectionable change in appearance (yarn breaks, pilling, and holes) is counted. Number of cycles (rubs) determines abrasion rating. Upholstery fabrics for heavy-duty use are rated at 30,000 rubs - these are appropriate for corporate oces, hotel rooms, conference rooms, waiting areas, lounges, dining areas, etc. There are extreme wear situations that may require higher levels of abrasion resistance, such as airport waiting areas, train & bus seating and such public places as theaters, hospitals, lecture halls and fast food restaurants. It is suggested that higher than 60,000 rubs are not meaningful in providing additional value in use.Actual performance is determined by many factors such as ber content, type of weave, furniture design and upholstery workmanship, cleaning and usage. The durability of an upholstery fabric also depends on its other features like color fastness, wet & dry crocking, stain resistance, cleanability etc.No thread breakdown observed after >70,000 rubs of Digital DuraPRINTS Crepe Weave fabric

2. Colorfastness to light

A fabrics’ degree of resistance to the fading eect of light.Colorfastness to light is a measure of how permanent a color is on fabric after exposure to light. Both natural and synthetic fabrics are subject to discoloration under UV rays (sunlight) and uorescent light. In the test methods ISO-105-B02 the tested sample is exposed to the inuence of the light of a xenon lamp under certain conditions. Light fastness grading is determined by comparing the level of color loss of the tested sample with blue standards. For example, grade 5 means that the characteristics of color fastness of the tested sample are similar to the characteristics of the blue wool standard 5.Grade 5 - no fadingGrade 4 - slight fadingGrade 1 - high degree of fadingUpholstery fabrics should have a minimum rating of 4 regardless of end use.Digital DuraPRINTS Crepe Weave fabrics have a rating of 5-6

Digital DuraPRINTS Crepe Weave fabrics have a following rating:

3. Colorfastness to wet and dry crocking / rubbing

Transfer of color from the surface of a colored fabric onto another surface by rubbing or repeated contact. Test method ISO-105x12:2001 uses a standard white cotton fabric in both dry and wet state that is rubbed against the surface of the test fabric. After rubbing under controlled pressure for a specic number of times the amount of color transferred to the white test squares is compared to a color chart and a rating is established. Grade 5 - no color transferGrade 1 - high degree of color transferFor Upholstery fabrics ACT guidelines recommend dry crocking Grade 4 minimum and wet crocking Grade 3 minimum.Digital DuraPRINTS Crepe Weave Fabrics have a rating of 3-4 for both dry and wet crocking / rubbing.

4. Pilling

Pilling is the formation of fuzzy balls of ber on the surface of a fabric that remain attached to the fabric. ISO-12945-2:2000 Martindale Method with 415g loading mass, 200 cycles:Grade 5 - no changeGrade 4 - slight surface fuzzingGrade 3 - moderate surface pilling. Pills of varying size and density partially covering the surfaceGrade 2 - distinct surface pilling. Pills of various size and density covering a large proportion of the surfaceGrade 1 - severe pilling covering whole of the fabric surfaceMost upholstery fabrics pill to varying degrees. For contact applications fabric should meet grade 4 minimum. Digital DuraPRINTS Crepe Weave fabrics have a pilling rating are as under:

After 125 Cycles 4-5After 500 Cycles 4-5After 1000 Cycles 4After 2000 Cycles 3-4

5. Colorfastness to perspiration

Resistance to color change due to perspiration.

ISO-105-E04:1994 determines resistance to colorchange due to acidic or alkaline persipiration.

Grade 5 - no color changeGrade 1 - high degree of color change

6. Flammability

A fabric’s performance when it is exposed to specic source of ignition.

ACT guidelines specify dierent ammability tests dictated by the intended end use of the fabric. The NFPA 701-89 measures ignition resistance of a fabric after it is exposed to a ame for 12 seconds. The ame, char length and aming for 12 seconds. The test is repeated a number of times and all test samples have to pass the test (if even one sample fails, the fails). ACT guidelines recommended Class 1 for upholstery and panels. DuraPRINTS Upholstery fabrics meet this recommenda-tion. Higher re-resistant property is required in high risk areas with little means of escape, for example in prison cells be made to meet high hazard applications by incorporation of additives to inhibit or prevent the combustion process. It must be appreciated that re hazard presented by any textile is very dependent on its construction, type of ber and the circumstances at the time. A fabric cannot be described as non-ammable under all circumstances.Burn Code Description: DNI = did not ignite
