This will be the final newsletter for 2018. What a wonderful year it has

been! On Monday we will celebrate the achievements of all our stu-

dents at our annual Presentation Day assembly. Although not all chil-

dren will receive an award, all deserve to be recognised and com-

mended on their efforts throughout the year. I take great pleasure in

watching the delight on the faces of children receiving awards and I

am always heartened by the response of their peers who feel the ex-

citement on their behalf. I hope you are able to join us for this formal

conclusion to another successful year of learning.

Later next week, we will farewell our outgoing year six students at a

formal dinner held in the school hall. A hard-working band of parents

and teachers will decorate the hall and create a special atmosphere to

make the night a memorable one. While we are sad to see this won-

derful group of students leave, we are so proud of the kind, caring

young people they have become. They will forever be wonderful am-

bassadors for Old Bar School. Congratulations year 6 and well done

parents!

“On Friday next

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT CONTINUED

On Friday next week you will receive your child’s semester 2 academic re-

port. Please take time to read it with them and recognise the growth and

development that will be evident through the grades and comments. I am

able to glean a real sense of what students have done and where they are

heading when I read the reports. I also appreciate the time, effort and ex-

pertise that goes into creating such a comprehensive overview of a child’s

year at school.

When staff work together on developing the class lists for the coming year,

we take into account the academic, social and emotional traits of our stu-

dents. We endeavour to also consider friendships. A lot of time and

thought goes into the process! Unfortunately, we are unable to let you

know what the class organisation will be in 2019 until we return at the end

of January. This is partly because our student numbers can, and do, fluctu-

ate dramatically between now and then. I would appeal to you to trust the

decisions we make about classes. At all stages of the process we have your

child’s best interest at heart. If you have a positive attitude to the new

year, this will transfer to your child and minimise any anxiety that might

accompany the excitement of going into a new class with new friends and

a new teacher. This all part of building confident, capable and resilient chil-

dren.

As we head into the festive season, I wish all families a safe, happy and fun-filled holiday. Christmas, to

me, is about sharing the message of love, peace and hope. I’m encouraged daily by the strength, pur-

pose and kindness I see in our students and the compassionate spirit that surrounds us. I feel blessed to

be a part of this community. Thank you for your support throughout 2018. I look forward with great an-

ticipation to the year ahead.

ST VINNIES HAMPERS

Thank you to all of those families who

have been sending in goods to be placed

in Vinnies hampers!

The goods have been well-received by

Vinnes who are so appreciative of the

help and support from our school commu-

nity!

The last day for collection is Monday 10th

December. Goods can be taken to class-

rooms, or delivered directly to the front

office.

Thank you!

NEW UNIFORM ORDERING

Parents are now able to place orders

for the new school shirts and hats.

Jumpers will also become available

during Term 1, 2019.

To place an online order, use your Flex-

ischools account. If you don’t have

one, you can set one up at

www.flexischools.com.au.

Paper order forms have been sent

home and can be returned with correct

cash enclosed.

Once goods have arrived, they will be delivered to students

in their classrooms. We expect that students will receive

their new shirts and hats in Week 1, Term 1, 2019!

Kinder 2019 parents can collect their children’s uniforms

from the classrooms when they come in for their Best Start

Assessment during Week 1.

CANTEEN THANK YOU

Skye and Mel would like to offer a BIG

thank you to all of the canteen volun-

teers who have generously offered their

time during 2018!

Whether you have helped for an hour, a

day, a term or a year, we value your con-

tribution!

Thank you especially to those volunteers

who have regularly given their time

throughout the year, and are still busily

working away in the canteen as we write

this message.

PRESENTATION DAY SPONSORS

We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all of the local businesses, organisations and indi-

viduals whose sponsorship provides the wonderful prizes and books that we are able to give

away on this special day. We are continually grateful to live in such a supportive community!

Special thanks to:

Amongst others, thank you to Naomi Dunn, Jenny Runge, Jen Greentree, Tracey Carter, Kim Richards,

Deb Williams, Lynda Redman, Cheryl Walsh, Elizabeth Hanrahan and Georgie Small. Without your hard

work and consistency this year, we could not have provided the delicious food and excellent service that

the school community has enjoyed.

Please consider helping out in the canteen next year - did you know that only four of our volunteers

have children or grandchildren at OBPS? If you are interested, but unsure whether you would like to be

involved, come and visit us for an obligation-free chat!
