    Principle 1

    Explosive Growth in anAntichrist State

FOR READERS to understand the environment Christians face inIran it is necessary to give a brief summary of the Iranian andIslamic global agenda. Iran is a totalitarian government, adictatorship, which exercises suppression, persecution and, at times, the death penalty for those of other faiths. e Islamic Republic

and its leaders, operate under a great desire for Islamic worlddominion with a religious fervor that does not permit faiths otherthan Islam. ough in a great minority Christianity is a present reality inIran a solely Islamic state. Christianity in Iran has a long history, dating back to Jerusalem and Pentecost. According to Acts 2:9 inthe Acts of the Apostles there were Parthians and Medes (Persians or

todays Iranians) in Jerusalem who were among the

rst newChristian converts at Pentecost. Since then there has been acontinuous presence of Christians in Iran, formerly Persia.Christians are severely persecuted in Iran, put into prison, aretortured, and put to death.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejadthe current presidenthas beenreported as being called by divine decree to usher in the return of

the Twelfth Imam, a pseudo savior of the world. Ahmadinejad gavehis eighth address to the opening fall session of the United Nations

general assembly in 2012. Here are two excerpts from his 34minute speech:e arrival of the ultimate savior will mark a new beginning, a

rebirth and a resurrection. It will be the beginning of peace, lastingsecurity and genuine life.

His arrival will be the end of oppression, immorality, poverty, discrimination andthe beginning of justice, love and empathy.

Islam and other religions have been created by men deceived bySatan. e true God cannot be allah because he declaresmuhammad to be his prophet. e one and only true and livingGod our Father in heaven declares His Son to be Jesus Christ. Hetold us in His Word:

Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard thatthe antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come.

is is how we know it is the last hour.1

Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ.Such a person is the antichristdenying the Father and the Son.2

Every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.is is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is comingand even now is already in the world.3

e Bible gives some specics about a future world leader.

However, we do not know the identity of such a person. We aregiven in the Bible in Revelation Chapter 20 an indication ofbeheading as a major execution method used by the antichrist.Beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because ofthe Word of God.4

e execution method of beheading has been practiced byMuslim extremists. Will God use Iran and other Muslim nations to

usher in the great tribulation? We do not know. We must continueto declare the truth of the Gospel despite persecution. God ourHeavenly Father declared by way of a voice from heaven that Jesus

Christ is His Son. e true Savior of the world Jesus Christ rosefrom the dead and will return to earth in great power and glory and

with the heavenly hosts. As Christians we love Muslims as God commanded us to do.We love all Muslim persons but we must not and cannot acceptsatans aberrations of presenting us with a false faith and falsemessiah. ere is only one true and living God, our HeavenlyFather, and His Son Jesus Christ who can save us and create a newheaven and a new earth, without sin, sorrow and death.

Estimates of the number of Christians in Iran vary. Somereport an estimated 1 million Christians in Iran.5 Anotherorganization reports a wave of revival. While not all reportingministries say the same, we believe overall wonderful growth istaking place despite great persecution.

Christian Pastor Nadarkhani says: e Word of God tells us toexpect to suffer hardship and dishonor for the sake of His Name.

Our Christian confession is not acceptable if we ignore thisstatement, if we do not manifest the patience of the Lord in oursufferings.

Is our Christianity in non-persecuted nations cold, hot, orlukewarm? If you say you are hotare you witnessing every day andat every opportunity? ose in persecuted countries risk their livesto share the wonderful news of Jesus. Why are we not sharing the

Good News every day, every opportunity? e Gospel of Jesus Christ since its inception in AD 33 hasnever been anything but explosive in its growth when it has beenproclaimed by Spirit-lled, Christ-centered and totally committedChristians. Such Christians were not hindered by the traditions andreligious ideas of men. e simple message of the Son of Godcrucied and resurrected for the sins of mankind has impacted

millions of lives to surrender all their rights and life to God andreceive forgiveness of sins. We see in the Book of Acts severalaccounts of this explosive growth:

But many who heard the Message believed; so the number ofmen who believed grew to about ve thousand.6

Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in theLord and were added to their number.7

So the Word of God spread. e number of disciples inJerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests becameobedient to the faith.8

Some estimate that between Acts chapter 2 and Acts chapter 6the growth of the Church was from 120 to upwards of 25,000

believers in this short duration of time! Some will caution againstseeking after such growth in the Church but we must not try tohinder what God wants to do by His Spirit. When there are timesof pressure that come upon the Church this can result in greatexpansions of the Gospel into the world. Some estimate that overthe last 30 years more Iranians have given their lives to Jesus Christthen over the last 1,300 years put together!9

Such a moving of Gods Spirit is normal when God is allowedto work. Sometimes this demands a time of persecution andpressure for the Church so that men are not in charge of theChurch but God is again given His rightful place to lead and direct.Sadly it takes sometimes great pressures forthe dependence on Godto be sought again. e early Apostles, after being brought beforethe Sanhedrin, came back to the other believers and cried out to

God about the situation. ey prayed for boldness to proclaim theGospel and not protection. ey prayed for God to stretch out Hishand and to do signs and wonders in the Name of Jesus. ey werelled with the Holy Spirit and the place was shaken. It is in timeslike this that God begins to work sovereignly in powerful ways. eeconomy of God is such that He will let us wait sometimes manyyears in a state of Christianity that is rebellious and full of sin in

order to let us come to an end of ourselves so that we would cry outto Him again.

God has a Remnant in Iran who are dependent, crying out toHim day and night and trusting in His working. In such a place

God is doing the impossible to glorify His Name and greatnumbers are being added to the Church. If you are in a country that is not persecuted, would you be

willing to cry out to the Lord10 asking Him for the Holy Spirit tohelp you share the Good News, as Christians do in persecutedcountries? Would you be willing to weep for your neighbors whodo not know the Lord? Would you be willing to weep for your

    country to come to repentance11

    Sharing the FaithConstantly in All

    Situations

A CHRISTIAN who was jailed in Iran was told that if Christianswould simply agree to stop evangelizing, all the prisoners would befreed. Church leaders point to this as evidence that Christians in

Iran follow the instructions of the Lord and share their faith. One imprisoned female Christian, though facing health

challenges, says she has had the opportunity to lead three people tothe Lord, including a criminal on death row, making her trial

    worthwhile.13

Pastor Irani, whose hair has turned white in an Iranian prisonaddresses the Christians in Iran with a letter:

Despite the pressure and difficulties in prison, I am pleased toshare, what is like a fountain, my Christian joy with you in the newspecial days to come. And I know that you, who are the saints andspiritual children of God, are acquainted with this joy. As a ministerof God, I allow myself to announce you to be happy. Know that all

the happiness that we have on earth is the rst fruit of that great joyprovided for us in heaven. e Father provides. I understand your

worries at a time of reported persecution, which forced some of youto ee abroad. However, please pay attention to what God says inMatthew in the Bible: Look at the birds of the air; they do not sowor reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feedsthem. Are you not much more valuable than they?14

Another Christian Pastor Farshid Fathi has been detained inprison since December 2010. He was charged with possessing

    religious propaganda.

e evidence presented by the regime wasthat Pastor Fathi had Bibles printed in Farsi, that he had unlawfullydistributed Bibles, and that he possessed Christian literature. eregime argued that his Christian activities were equivalent to actionsagainst national security. Pastor Fathi is presently serving a 6-yearsentence in Irans notorious Evin prison. His crime is being aChristian and freely exercising his faith. Pastor Fathi has a wife

Leila and two children, Rosana and Bardia. ey suffer with him. Under an oppressive regimesuch as Irans governmentbelievers who share their faith can be reported for apostatizing fromthe Muslim faith. Yet there is a Holy Spirit boldness in many in theunderground Church to share their faith publicly and daily withother Iranians. Believers share their faith with people in the buses, taxis, in the shops, and even when stopped at a red light. e

openness in many hearts for the truth is such that some Iranians, when given the truth of the Gospel, want to accept it right away. ey do not hold any special crusades, rallies or any type ofevangelism outreaches. All the Iranian believers go about their dailylives, sharing the Gospel with many they come across. Becausenone of them are foreign missionaries they blend right in with theircountry and culture and are therefore able to share their faith

naturally in daily life.An example of this boldness and obedience to the Holy Spirit is

that of a Christian whose car was stopped at a red light in Tehran.e believer felt led of the Holy Spirit to get out of his car, knockon the window of another car and give the driver a New Testament.

    Iran Underground House Churches 10

    Matthew 6:26

ey also exchanged phone numbers and, shortly after that, theman who received the New Testament believed on Christ. When he

met with the man that gave him the Scriptures, the new converttestied that he had felt an overwhelming desire to follow thebelievers car and for 20 minutes had driven behind the Christianthroughout the streets of Tehran not knowing why. is is the waythe Holy Spirit is working and drawing manyto Christ by what we

would call miracles and impossibilities. is is the normal workingof Gods Spirit to bring men to Himself through Jesus Christ.

A Christian taxi driver demonstrates another example of thisboldness. He has a cross dangling from the front mirror in his taxi.He has a Bible on the seat next to him. He realizes and knows thathis livelihood, his freedom and even his life are at stake. Yet, hesays: How can I not share the great salvation through JesusChrist?

In Acts 1:8 we are reminded that this is the work of the Holy

Spirit. When we deny the power of God to witness through us, webecome the salt that has lost its savor.15 We can return to God inrepentance and ask Him to endue us with His Holy Spirit. Hispower will become evident in our lives if we follow in obedienceand in dependence on Jesus. In the Book of Acts Gods power wasrevealed by His angel and by the Spirit to guide the deacon Philip:

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, Go south to the road

the desert roadthat goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. So hestarted out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, animportant official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake(which means queen of the Ethiopians). is man had gone to

Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in hischariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. e Spirit toldPhilip, Go to that chariot and stay near it.16

May we seek such direction of the Lord daily in ourcircumstances to be a witness for Christ.

    New Converts EveryChurch Meeting

IT IS now a normal thing to see many new converts in IranianHouse Churches. Iranianbelievers expect to see new people comingin repentance to Jesus every week. is is very much like theaccount of the Book of Acts where it says the Church was: PraisingGod and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord addedto their number daily those who were being saved.17 In some cases,

when they have meetings where there are no stories of a conversionthey examine what they have done wrong to hinder the Lord

working. Such growth has happened in the last 30 years to wheremany say conservative estimates put the size of the Iranian houseChurches at over one million people.

Iranians nd the Lord Jesus Christ through evangelization byIranians and personal one-to-one witnessing. e Lord commands

us to make disciples. After the person makes a decision, they needdiscipleship. It involves walking and talking with those that haveaccepted Christ and teaching them what the Bible says. As IranianChristians rely on the Holy Spirit they are Spirit-led to reach thosethat should be saved. ey risk their lives to do so because they

believe it is a sin not to share the Good News of the Gospel of theLord Jesus Christ. eir commitment to Jesus Christ is reected in

many reports. e cost to see this growth in the Church is at the price of greatpersecution and imprisonment. Rev. Mehdi Dibaj was in prison for9 years for refusing to deny his faith in Christ and return to Islam. He said: I am a Christian. As a sinner I believe Jesus has died formy sins on the cross and by His resurrection and victory over death, has made me righteous in the presence of the Holy God. e true

God speaks about this fact in His Holy Word, the Gospel (Injil).Jesus means Savior because He will save His people from theirsins.18 Jesus paid the penalty of our sins by His own blood andgave us anew life so that we can live for the glory of God by thehelp of the Holy Spirit and be like a dam against corruption, be achannel of blessing and healing, and be protected by the love ofGod.

In response to this kindness, He has asked me to deny myselfand be His fully surrendered follower, and not to fear people even ifthey kill my body, but rather rely on the creator of life who hascrowned me with the crown of mercy and compassion. He is thegreat protector of His beloved ones as well as their Great Reward.

ey object to my evangelizing. But if one nds a blindperson who is about to fall in a well and keeps silent then one has

sinned.19 It is our religious duty, as long as the door of Gods mercyis open, to convince evil-doers to turn from their sinful ways andnd refuge in Him in order to be saved from the wrath of theRighteous God and from the coming dreadful punishment.20

ree months after he was released from prison, Rev. Mehdiwas abducted and later found hanging from a tree.

Such dedication in the life of Iranian Christians brings the

results that God desires. Heaven rejoices when a sinner repents.God gives the eternal reward, that of a martyrs crown, to Hisfaithful servant. We in non-persecuted countries take the easy road.

We say, Let our life speak. Yet we are drowned in the sea of the

world. Our voices are not raised and therefore are not heard. Wehave lost the salt from our Christian lives. When Jesus prayed for us

He talked to His Father about future Christians that would believeon Him because of their word: My prayer is not for them alone. Ipray also for those who will believe in Me through their message.21By sayingtheir messageJesus is indicating that we Christians are touse the words of our mouths to testify about salvation. We are toshare with others by word of mouth what Jesus has done for us. Weare to speak with our voices about our faith, humbly, gently, and

with much love. For it is with your heart that you believe and arejustied, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith andare saved.22

In Iran, confession of the faith is also transmitted throughtechnological means. A wonderful testimony is that of a family inIran that watched a Gospel broadcast on an illegal satellite station. In response to hearing the Good News of the Son of God and

eternal life in Him they prayed this prayer together as a family: Dear God, we confess that we are sinners. I confess that I cannotsave myself through my own good works. I believe that You died on thecross for my sins. And they put You in the tomb and You rose from thedead after 3 days. I believe that You are alive and have the authority toforgive my sins. And to make me righteous in front of the EverlastingGod. I ask that You accept me and as You promised, please give me new

life. I thank You for hearing my prayers, Amen. With this prayer they wrote in to the Gospel station and asked

if the prayer was correct. Such simple faith and response to theGospel is how God is working in a powerful way in this country toturn people from a harsh religion that demands many outwardreligious forms to the true and living God.

    Principle 4

    Networking Small Groupsof Believers

JUST LIKE the Church in the Book of Acts began to meet in homesas a network of believers when it came under great pressures fromthe Jewish atrocities, the believers in Iran today have similarpressures that have encouraged them to meet in small homefellowships that are all networked together with other believers.

    As persecution intensi

es in certain areas, believers will move todifferent cities and start home fellowships there also, so that thespreading of these gatherings is something that is continuallyhappening. e Iranians believe that Jesus Christ is with them intheir small gatherings and therefore there is a condence that theyare meeting as a Church even if there are just a few believerspresent. ey count it a necessity to network with others and

consider themselves all part of one Church.

ere is no choice totry to nd a different church for doctrinal preference or worshipstyle; all believers are content to meet simply with each other.

In the Book of Acts, arguably over 25,000 new convertsoccurred within the rst year of the history of the Church. Yet all ofthis growth was easily assimilated into small house Churches as theynetworked together seamlessly. e Gospel was preached in

homes23 and the older brothers and sisters taught the younger whenthere were no Apostles or elders present. is life of the Body,

where everyone was able to teach each other, allowed for fastgrowth and for adjusting to how the Lord was adding to theChurch daily those who were being saved.

For the next 250 years, before there was ever a church buildingconstructed, this practice of meeting in homes and of loosenetworking was the pattern for the early Church. e home itself

was a Church where the husband would teach his family. In Iran

and other countries closed to the Gospel, this is a method used bythe Holy Spirit to preserve His Church. It is noteworthy that JesusHimself primarily ministered in homes24 during His three years ofpublic ministry. And not surprisingly the Lord taught His disciplesto also use private homes in their ministries also.25 e same wastrue of the early Church Apostles.26

ere is a great vacuum in the lives of the people of Iran.

Eighty percent of the younger generation is dissatised with thefundamentalism of Islam which cannot meet their deepest needs.ey are searching for real answers for the problems in their lives. Most young Iranians do not adhere to the Islamic faith. When theychoose Jesus Christ they know they have chosen eternity in heaven, but they realize they mustforsakeallin this earthly life.27 e greatGospel of God given through His Son Jesus is recognized as worth

leaving all behind and, if necessary, losing ones life. ere is no in-between; it is a total commitment of taking up their cross andfollowing Jesus, becoming a living sacrice. e following accountsexemplify the danger:

A house Church was raided by security forces on Friday,October 12, 2012 in the city of Shiraz in Fars Province, Iran. Twomembers of the Church were arrested and summoned to the

Intelligence Ministrys detention centre, Pelak, where seven othermembers of their house Church were being held.

No information about hiscondition and whereabouts was given to the family for months.

In another case: Fifteen Christians were thrown in jail. ey

were put under severe pressure to recant their faith but refused todo so.Nonetheless, While it is safer to start a church in the West, it

may actually be simpler to plant one in Iran. Go to a churchplanters conference in North America, and you will hear aboutbudgets, programs, marketing campaigns, and the need for a good

worship set. Attend a conference for Iranians, and you get a very

different picture. eyll talk about starting by sharing Christ withfriends and family, gathering new believers for a weekly Bibleteaching and fellowship, and then encouraging and praying withthem to go and share with their friends and family.28

We can follow their example by starting small fellowshipsunder the Headship of Jesus Christ in the same way as our Iranianbrothers and sisters.

    Martyrs Esteemed in theChurch

THE THOUGHT of any believer in Christ being martyred issomething hard to bear. Yet from an eternal perspective the Iranianbelievers hold in high regard those who have laid down their livesfor the cause of Christ. e stories of the martyrs in Iran are many.ese are just a few:

On January 19, 1994, Haik disappeared from the streets ofTehran. e authorities reported his death to his family on January30; he was stabbed 26 times in his chest: Indeed, Haik gave hisheart to Christ twice. Once when he invited Christ to his life as hisSavior, and second, when his heart was torn apart for his faith inChrist.29

    Martyr Mehdi Dibaj wrote:

I have always envied those Christians who were martyred forChrist Jesus our Lord. What a privilege to live for our Lord and todie for Him as well. I am lled to overowing with joy; I am notonly satised to be in prison but am ready to give my life for thesake of Jesus Christ.30

And this is where you learn

you can love your enemies with all of your heart.31 e sadness and hurt of any believer in Christ being martyredis hard to bear. Yet from an eternal mindset and perspective there isa glory and esteem the Iranian believers have for those who have

laid down their lives for the cause of Christ. e stories of themartyrs in Iran are many. Above we have mentioned a few.

Such lives are not laid down in vain, but are paving the way forthe furtherance of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ. AsTertullian32 said in his Apology in AD 200: e oftener we aremown down by you, the more in number we grow. e blood ofChristians is seed. is seed is being sown in Iran today and weshould expect a vibrant harvest of souls in the coming days beforethe coming of our Lord.

Martyrdom is a sobering subject. Maybe it will sober us back tothe place where the Church needs to be. e martyr spirit is thespirit of New Testament Christianity. We have to recapture a faiththat is worth living for and worth dying for in our day. Christdemands our all in His call for discipleship. If we seek to save ourlives we will lose them.33

e Bible is lled with the testimonies of martyrs; from the

rst Book of Genesis where Abel becomes the rst martyr,34

to theend of the Book of Revelation, where the last of the martyrs arekilled for the testimony of Christ.35 From the beginning to the endof the Bible, martyrdom is not only keenly present butoverwhelmingly obvious to any reader of the Scriptures. e Apostle John gives us this exhortation: Do not besurprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.36 It

should not surprise or startle us in anyway when we are recipientsof the fact that the world hates us. When we are on the receivingend of a slander, blasphemy, rejection or even a violent act weshould not be surprised. is world and all of its inhabitants areoffended by the Gospel and by Christ in us. Our light andrighteousness speaks of their condemnation.37 Daily, our lives makemanifest the fact that they will be judged by God one day.

Hebrews chapter 11 is not only a hall of faith, as many call itbut it is also ahall of martyrs. Some faced jeers and ogging, and

    even chains and imprisonment.

ey were put to death by stoning;they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. ey wentabout in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted andmistreatedthe world was not worthy of them. ey wandered indeserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in theground.38is passage along with others should build in us a greatsobriety on this subject as we consider those who went on ahead of

us in the body of Christ.Another passage largely misinterpreted and overlooked in itscontext is in Romans chapter 8: Who shall separate us from thelove of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famineor nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: For Your sake weface death all day long; we are considered as sheep to beslaughtered.39

Evangelicals quote this passage to speak of the greatness ofGods love; and surely Gods love is great, but unfortunately wehave misinterpreted its true meaning. Paul speaks of famines, danger and swords! Shall a sword separate us from the love ofChrist? Or, using modern vernacular, shall a gun pointed at ourhead separate us from the love of Christ? e answer of course is,No. Nothing will separate us from the love of Christ, even when

men torture and martyr us for that precious Name, they will not beable to touch our souls. We are safe in Christs love. All that mencan do to us is destroy this earthly tent, the body we are living in.is was the Apostle Pauls emphasis and point in this passage.Martyrdom is the secret weapon of the Church. No one can takeaway the victory of Christs love on the cross and the redemption ofmen for Himself.

We can see clearly that the end of following Christ whole-heartily is to share in His very end: Martyrdom is not some kindof rare experience for the very few because they were not wiseenough to avoid the consequence; it is the normative, logical result

Epilogue: e Call ToGather as Fellowships

THIS BOOK has been prepared to encourage believers to gather in

small gatherings under the Headship of Jesus Christ.41 us noman is head over the fellowships as a whole that gather in this way.ough servant leaders are submitted to, there is no one brotherover all fellowships controlling them. True submission to authorityin the Church should not be because of someone who was voted inor hired but because of their spiritual walk with the Lord. uspeople submit to them willingly seeing Christ formed in them anddesiring to emulate their walk with the Lord.42

Each Gospel Fellowship meeting is autonomous and accountableto the Lord directly,43 and as the Lord networks groups togetherthey will mutually submit to each other for accountability as theSpirit leads them. Leaders will be raised up by the Lord as Hebrings out their giftings.44 When gatherings multiply and expandsome brothers will have responsibility over many groups toshepherd them.45 We believe there is a movement of the Spirit to

gather believers as the Bride of Christ. We believe this book issimply a response to what the Lord is already doing in these last

days, to purify and grow His Church and His Kingdom.Even though being called of God to start a gathering does notdemand that you be accountable to another spiritual brother, thereis great wisdom in seeking to be under an elder brother. It is helpfulto be connected with other brothers in the local area that you canrespect and unify with who are in already established housechurches. Even if a brother is involved in a denominational church,

it can be wise to be spiritually submitted to46

that brother althoughthe new gathering of believers will not be under that denomination.Yet, in a time of apostasy especially, there will be situations whereyou cannot submit to other pastors in your area and you are free bythe leading of the Lord to start a new work though it can come

with ridicule and misunderstanding. You do not need permission to gather as the Church in groups

    of even just 2-3 believers.47

You do not need permission to breakthe Lords Supper or baptize someone who is clearly following JesusChrist as a disciple.

e rst step to starting a house Church is to pray. HouseChurch ministry must be birthed in prayer. ough it is a simplestep, without prayer and Gods leading, we invite trouble.48 Prayeris the foundation of every true work of God that builds the Lords

kingdom. us to begin to pray and cry out to the Lord together insmall gatherings will be a healthy atmosphere for the Lord to beginto show favor to the humble.49 From there also allow the Lord topractically guide and be Head of the meetings.
