Principal's Corner
PRINCIPAL’S WELCOME
Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
I would like to start by thanking the AICS board for entrusting me to lead the dedicated
staff of our great institution, Australian Islamic College of Sydney, through to the next
phase of growth. Insha’Allah my team and I will be implementing changes that will
improve our academic standards and further integrate the Islamic ethos into the school
culture and teaching. These changes will only be possible with the help and support of
our school community.
In my first few weeks, I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the students of AICS
who, masha’Allah, are well mannered and showed an enthusiasm to learn. I have also
met some parents who expressed their satisfaction with the new phase the school has
embarked on. Insha’Allah we will keep our school community updated with the changes
that are being implemented.
On a final note please support your children’s learning by checking their homework every
night and ensure they start preparing for their end of year exams.
wa salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Kindergartens enjoy their very first athletics carnival! On the last week of Term 3, Kindergarten had a blast at their very first K-2 athletics carnival. It was a beautiful day as the weather wasn’t too hot, and it wasn’t cold either... It was a perfect day for the carnival! The students participated in a wide range of activities such as: relay races, obstacle courses, novelty races, shotput and ball games. The activities would not have run as smooth if we didn’t have support from our lovely year 6 SRC students. The Kindergarten students have been sorted into different house colours these include: red, blue, green and yellow. It was great to see students representing their house colours and cheering on their team. Thank you to all the parents that came and enjoyed the day with the students, I think we can all agree it was a fantastic day for all students, parents and teachers involved. Science and Technology Term 4
Over the last term Year 2 students have been learning about sound energy in their Science
and Technology unit ‘The Sound of Music’. They are now in the second part of this unit and
have been learning about algorithms and how they are used in the real world. To apply
their learning, they are currently working on a project using programs such as Scratch
Junior to design which involves designing code to make digital robot or character (known
as a sprite) dance. This will be set to music or sounds developed in Term 3. They have
been using every opportunity to work on their projects and are looking forward to sharing
their instruments and coding with the residents of a local nursing home towards the end of
the term.

Geography 4A would like to share some of their learning in Geography In Geography Year 4 will be focusing on Sustainability. The concept of sustainability is about the capacity of the environment to continue to support our lives and the lives of other living creatures in the future. 4A would like to share a proverb with you which explained the importance of sustainability.
"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise we cannot eat money.”

A Song of Land and Fire
Term 4 has begun and Year Five have shown a great enthusiasm towards Geography.
The topic for Geography is ‘A Song of Land and Fire’, which consists of three parts. For
part one, students are learning about the climate of different countries and linking it to the
population. Part two, is about investigating the landforms of Australia and Japan. Part three
of the topic, students learn about the impact of bushfires on Australian environments,
places and people.
For this Geography topic, Year Five have taken use of mathematical skills, such as
identifying landmarks using position and directional language when working with maps.
The use of digital technology and research skills will be applied by students to present their
understanding of the topic. As global citizens, our students will begin to propose ways to
reduce the impact of bushfires in the future.

Sporting Our Pride
The end of Term 3 saw Year 6’s final primary sports carnival. There was much
excitement, enjoyment and competition as the day unfolded. Students participated in
many events; including the high jump. It was entertaining to see students try their best to
make the jumps. The epic 400m race was most definitely one to watch as students put
their sweat and passion into completing the race. Other highlights were the tug of war
between teachers and students. These activities, which all grades were able to
participate in, was especially enjoyed with the help of the Year 6 students. They helped
clean the sand pit, measured shotput distances, moved the high jump bars. They helped
make the day run smoothly. Some of the Year 6s even had the privilege of helping at the
K-2 sports day the very next day.
I am sure the Year 6 students will remember their final primary sports day for years to
come.

Primary Islamic News
Dear parents/guardians,
Assalamu Alaikum
Our main objective in teaching Islam is to give our students the opportunity to enjoy their
learning, and to love the subject Islamic Studies and to practise Islam in their day to day
lives. In 2019 students have used the Islam Book of “An Nasihah Islamic Curriculum”,
which includes seven main topics of Fiqh, Ahadith, Sirah, Tarikh, Aqa’id, Akhlaq and
Adab about Islam and its values. In addition, students have been provided with
homework and classroom activities. Our Islam program follows the communicative
approach and aims to assist students to learn basic levels of Faith (Tawhid and Iman).
Each topic contains a colouring or an activity page. The purpose of this page is to help
students to compose themselves before the lesson begins. Homework is checked
regularly.
Feedback is given in a way that motivates the learners and assists them with risk taking
behaviour which is essential in the learning process. Assessment is an integral
component of the teaching-learning process rather than being a separate activity.
We look forward to working with you and your child this year.
