1 Principal: Mrs M Crelley Issue No: 13 Term: 3 Monday 27 th August, 2018 We have had a very eventful fortnight with some fantastic achievements to report. Congratulations to our U15s Girls Basketball team who were crowned Riverina Champions and The U15 Boys side who were narrowly defeated at the recent basketball gala day in Narrandera. Outstanding sportsmanship complimented great performances from both teams. Our appreciation goes to Mrs Locke, Miss Lucas, Ryan Newman and Junior Faoa for their efforts in preparing both teams to reach this level of success. Wednesday last week saw an evening gathering of family and close friends to watch our HSC Music and Drama students share their HSC performance pieces with the audience. I was highly impressed by our senior drama students who delivered very creative and complex monologues to the audience without fault. The group performances were also exceptionally entertaining. The audience was awestruck by our students’ confidence, commitment and courage to deliver what they did and we certainly expect them to do well for their HSC performances. Musical pieces were also a great addition to the evening and well done to our singers and musicians. Both Mrs van den Heuval and Mrs Skewes have excelled in preparing our students. Leeton Eisteddfod Our Eisteddfod performers continue in style with our senior and junior dance ensembles coming 1 st and 2 nd in multiple categories respectively. Congratulations to all our dancers and a heartfelt thank you to Mrs Goman for her tireless work and to our student choreographers Georgia and Ella Saddler and Charlotte Morschel for their vision and creativity to produce some top quality pieces. Japan 2019 Overseas Excursion Parent Information Session Monday 27 th August Parents/Carers and students in Years 8-11 2019 are invited to attend an information session to be held on Monday evening to provide an overview of our proposed language and cultural tour to Japan in October 2019. The Information session will commence at 6.00pm in the Library. Please contact Miss Ling on 0269 53 2122 if you are unable to attend but are interested to learn more about this outstanding opportunity. LHS Fest Wednesday 29 th August 2018 LHS Fest 2018 is fast approaching. Wristbands can still be purchased for $35.00 from the Front Office which includes free rides and activities all day. Leeton Idol will be held in the afternoon and is a great opportunity for the school to showcase the many talents of our students and staff. We look forward to another great event and I thank the P&C, especially Tracey Watson, for all the hard work that goes into organising this fantastic annual event for our school. All proceeds go to the P&C to raise funds for Leeton High School. Year 7 2019 Enrolment Forms Please provide the Front Office with Year 7 2019 Enrolment Forms as soon as possible. We need these forms back to establish how many classes we will have next year in Year 7. Please contact the school if you have any questions regarding the enrolment process. Wear It Purple Friday 31st August 2018 Leeton High School will support the Wear it Purple initiative next Friday with the theme -Empower Together. Wear it Purple began in 2010 to support young people who felt bullied due to their sexuality or gender identity. From this, Wear it Purple grew to promote hope and acceptance, and to reinforce that all people have the right to be proud of who they are. Wear it Purple acknowledges every young person as unique, important and worthy of love. Students are encouraged to wear purple next Friday as a show of support. More information can be found at: http://wearitpurple.org/ Shine 2018

Tickets for the 'Shine-Once Upon A Time' extravaganza, hosted by the Leeton Community of Public Schools, are now on sale for the 5th and 6th September. This is a great opportunity to view the creative and performing talents of all our local public primary and secondary students at this spectacular event. Leeton High School choir, drama, dance and musical theatre ensembles will certainly impress. Tickets are available from the Front Office and also from the Leeton Trophy and Gift Centre. Three huge shows only-don’t miss out! Breakfast @ LHS

Breakfast Club operates on Tuesday and Friday mornings in front of the canteen. Thanks to our volunteer teachers and students, our wonderful canteen ladies and the Leeton IGA for their very generous support. DEBATING The debating season is over for the students who entered the Premier’s Challenge Competition. On Thursday 23rd August the delightful Year 7 team debated against two teams at Griffith High School. The team consisted of Adelaide Meline, Madeline Irvin, Molly Gilmour and Shay Bandy. Molly took on the difficult role of third speaker at the last moment as Tatum Marks could not attend due to illness. All the girls have been wonderful ambassadors for our school. Their topics were difficult, however they produced good arguments and were complimented by the adjudicator and Griffith High co-ordinator for their conduct, ability and their uniforms. Despite two losses the girls were always positive and enjoyed their day. Especially with the ice-cream on the return trip home.

TAFE VISIT YEAR 10

Nicholas Wright the Leeton TAFE Services Coordinator visited all Year 10 Careers classes last week

and presented an informative session to students of what TVET courses are on offer in 2019. We

thank Nicholas for his time and students are now looking into TAFE courses to study during 2019.

Metal Work and Wood Work students from Years 9-11

different careers within this company such as:

maintenance of Australia’s infrastructure, including roads,

bridges, pipelines, drainage, ports and utilities. A great
