SCHOOL

NEWS

I would like to take the opportunity to thank our entire school community for the outstanding job everyone has done to ensure that our children at CHPS have had the best educational opportunities and experiences under extremely difficult circumstances.

It certainly has been a year that all of us have had to adapt to so many new experiences and ways of living, learning, teaching and parenting. We have successfully managed our students learning from home this year, with our parents taking on an enormous responsibility in teaching their children whilst guiding, supporting and encouraging them to continue their love of learning.

Our incredibly supportive teachers were working frantically behind the scenes to ensure that each child was provided with learning packs that met their educational needs, provided educational support to parents as the “home teacher”, educational and emotional support to students and their families whilst they themselves were working remotely from home or from a very different looking school space – school with reduced staff numbers, and only a handful of students on site.

We certainly all realised how difficult it was to manage “isolation” and how much we all value being with one another as a big family of students, staff, parents and community. We have all adapted to so many changes this year and accepted that many of our normal procedures, practices and traditions at CHPS and life in general have had to be modified.

I must congratulate you all for your flexibility, support and continued resilience when faced with all of these changes and your ability to accept things in this COVID 19 world. I have seen extraordinary compassion, empathy and care by students, staff and our community and know that we are extremely fortunate to have one another in each other’s lives.

I know for many of us we will welcome in 2021 with enthusiasm, hope and a feeling of “a new beginning”.

On behalf of the incredibly talented and dedicated staff at CHPS I wish our community a safe, healthy and happy summer holiday.

STAFFING NEWS

GOODBYE AND GOODLUCK As we come to the end of the year, it is with sadness that we farewell some of the staff who

have worked tirelessly for the students of Canley Heights. This year, we wish Mrs Lazo, Miss

Smyth, Mrs Nair, Mr Brown and Ms Ahmad all the very best as their journeys take them away

from us and into the next chapters of their lives. I am sure the entire school community joins

us in thanking them for the hard work and dedication they have shown towards the students.

2021 TEACHERS Our school is understanding of children who experience anxiety around the start of the

school year, wondering who their teacher might be and if they will have any of their friends

in their new class. While we are not in a position to tell students who their teacher will be

yet, as things could change between now and the beginning of next year, we thought it

might help everyone to know which teachers will be teaching in each area of the school. The

list below is based on the information we have at this current time and may change with

short notice.

COVID-19 UPDATES

STAY CONNECTED WITH US IN THE HOLIDAYS!

During the school holidays, the Department of Education will release updated guidelines

about the COVID-19 safety practices for the beginning of the 2021 school year. Once we

have this information we will communicate it to you through the class APPS we have used

this year and the school’s social media accounts. Please make sure you stay connected to

them so you get the notifications for the updates. With the relaxed restrictions around the

state, we are hopeful that some of our school safety practices will also be relaxed. Thank

you to our whole school community who has worked with us for most of the year to ensure

the health and safety of our school. This year, more than ever, we have had many reminders

of what a wonderful, supportive community our school serves. Enjoy a well-deserved break

with your families and loved ones over the holiday season and see you all in 2021!

Deputy Principal’s Message

What a Year!

This year has been an extraordinary year. No one could have anticipated as we began the school

year the events that we would witness and experience- fires, floods and pandemics. None of us

imagined that this school year would be disrupted in such a dramatic fashion. One day we were

planning for end of term activities and looking forward to all of the fun and exciting events that are

a part of school life at CHPS and the next we were discovering how to teach and learn from home.

In true CHPS style we not only met the challenges head on with little fuss and bother, but also rose

above the challenges and our entire school community is to be thanked for what has turned out to

a weird but wonderful year.

Thank you boys and girls for the

way in which you conduct yourselves. Your

smiles and welcoming hellos are something

that I look forward to everyday. The care and

concern you show your peers and the way

you look after each other is wonderful.

Thank you for coming to school each day

ready to learn and to do your absolute best. I

am constantly amazed by the work I see you

doing and I am so proud of you.

Thank you all for always trying to be RE-

SPECTFUL, SAFE and RESPONSIBLE. You

are the reason why visitors to our school al-

ways comment on how terrific CHPS is and

how welcome they feel while here. Thank you to our parents, car-

ers and families for your support in all

things. You are definitely a big reason for the

successes we have experienced this year.

The way in which you stepped up to take on

much of the load for the education of your

children and the way in which you stayed in

touch with the teachers was something we

admire and congratulate you on.

Thank you for the role have played in keep-

ing our school safe and secure and following

all the COVID-19 rules.

It is such a joy to briefly meet up with you in

the afternoons and mornings. We have

missed our families and hope that in 2021

we will be able to fully welcome you back.

Thank you our teachers and

staff for the way in which each and every

one of you works without fail over the year to

provide our students with the environment

and opportunities that will give them the

strong foundations they need for future suc-

cess. You are an amazing team.

Davide Verlingieri (Students Wellbeing Officer)

Dear Parents, Staff and Students,

It has been a very quick and eventful semester for me at CHPS. During

this short time I have come to love and cherish the school community con-

sisting of all the staff, students and families that I have personally met and

had interaction with. Personally I believe that CHPS is a hidden gem in

amongst many other schools in this area, and I feel very privileged and

honoured to have had your trust and blessing to work here with that which

is dearest to us most - our loved ones.

Apart from the all the lunchtime games and activities, the main highlight of this semester

has been the many, many individual interactions I've had with you as I moved from class to

class with our amazing therapy dogs, Aspen and Sedin. I have loved getting to know you

all, seeing the delightful differences in all your personalities, and most of all seeing your

beaming smiles! I look forward to seeing you all again next year. To those who will be start-

ing high school next year, I can sincerely say that I will miss you, but I also truly hope and

believe that you will thrive and prosper in your education and wellbeing, and grow into the

amazing leaders that you have the potential to be.

I have also cherished the opportunities to chat with parents, grandparents, uncles and

aunts of our students, and I hope to do so more in the future.

I was also honoured to have been a part of the drive to help gather donations for the CHPS

family whose suffered the tragedy of the house fire, and can honestly say that I was emo-

tionally moved by your open-heartedness and generosity to help. It was a great reminder of

all the goodwill that exists in our world and community, and an inspir-

ing personal encouragement to continue engaging in acts of benevolence towards others.

Thank you all so much.

A significant memory which I will cherish from this semester is seeing the enthusiastic and

willing heart attitude of several students in years 5/6, (you know who you are), who served

their fellow students by cleaning up bikes in order to give to those who had none. In total,

we gave close to twenty students, a free bike and helmet. Thank you so much to those who

helped - I am VERY proud of you - I hope that as you continue through life you maintain and

build on this same attitude of service to others.

I personally wish to thank you all for the way in which I have felt received and accepted by

you at Canley Heights Public School.

I wish you all the very best for the holiday season ahead, and a very merry Christmas and

blessed New Year.

Parent online payments (POP) Canley Heights Public School will be moving to phase 2 of our plan for school online payments (POP). This means that we would like to have more parents/carers pay using the online system rather than paying with cash. The method is illustrated in the attached pictures and an information sheet about using the online payment system is available in many languages on this DoE link https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/going-to-a-public-school/translated-documents/parent-online-payments-information-for-parents?fbclid=IwAR3-UEZ2O0oox5dK6JLZHd4lmyqH4HKXThQ6wL1qNK4cGcizJ_TvBISJkyA We appreciate everyone's support as we become more progressive in our school finan-cial systems.

Please visit or call the school office to complete an enrolment form. Due to COVID-19,

our procedures for parent workshops and orientation have changed for this year. We are

connecting with all Kindergarten families online using the SeeSaw app. Orientation ses-

sions will be held on Thursday 12th, 19th and 26th of November for new students only.

Students who already attend our preschool will engage in a school readiness program on

the days they attend preschool. All parents will be provided with an information and re-

source pack either at the orientation sessions or when they collect their child from pre-

school during Week 6. Further details are available on SeeSaw, so please see the school

office so you can enrol and get connected today.
