English LO: Intro Paragraph of News Paper article

The introductory paragraph in a newspaper article is crucial as it tells the reader briefly what happened and covers the 5 w’s – who, what, when, where and why. Even if the reader stopped reading at this point they’d know roughly what happened. Your challenge today is to write your introduction paragraph for your report. Please continue with your topic work.

Topic – Russia

We have done a lot of work on Russia. I would now like you to develop this further.

Use an atlas a globe or use the internet and look at Continents, Countries and Cities.

Use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and

describe features studied in the context of European countries.

• I can identify the countries of Europe. To locate the world’s countries, using maps

to focus on Europe (including the location of Russia) and North and South America,

concentrating on their environmental regions, key physical and human

characteristics, countries, and major cities in the context of places in Europe.

• I can identify the capital city of a country.

There is a lot to do here so use the week to develop this as you would like.

Some suggestions….

Make lists of countries

Pick a country

Draw maps

Discuss the differences between European countries.

Present this as you would like a power point or poster maybe?

I look forward to you e-mailing me to show me your findings,

Note to Year 6- I am aware you have all your SATs books

that I know you are working from daily at your own pace.

Continue to do this, however, look at Class 3’s daily work -

especially the topic work I would expect you to do this also .

REMEMBER I AM HERE! EMAIL AND SHOW ME WHAT YOU ARE UP TO.

Mrs Woodward
