North Cadbury Court offers the perfect venue for corporate events, celebrations, meetings, board meetings and team

building days. The house was fully renovated only a year ago and now has space to organise large events for up to 300 people.

In the pretty village of North Cadbury, the house is owned by the Montgomery family - well known for their world famous Cheddar cheese. It now offers a flexible location for your corporate event, in the surroundings of a beautiful stately home which you can literally make your own.

The house is not short of space: there’s a ballroom which seats 300 for a presentation or 150 for a meal, a library, a drawing room, a dining hall which seats 130 for a presentation or 96 people for a meal, a snooker room and even a fully operational disco in the cellar! There are 21 bedrooms (nearly all en suite) and good nearby local accommodation.

With tennis courts, a croquet lawn, a fishing lake, extensive private grounds for long walks and a pleasant village to explore with local walks, shop, pub and tea room there is also plenty to do. A swimming pool, gym, sauna, lawn tennis courts and fun golf course (with the first tee on the roof!) will be completed by summer 2014.

When you book you have the free services of your own event manager Georgia Baxter, who will organise caterers, staff and activities - on hand to answer any queries. Activities such as micro lighting, archery, pistol shooting, falconry and clay shooting can be organised.

Manager David Mattia says: ‘’You can make the house your own and do pretty much what you like, within reason! The Team North Cadbury Court

North Cadbury Court was lived in as a family home by the Montgomery family for 100 years and by successive

families going back 600 years. In 2011, after the death of Archie Montgomery mother who had lived in the house for most of her life, the project to restore the house was started. By the time the final stage has been completed (the swimming pool and leisure complex) the project will have taken two years.

J,A & E Montgomery Ltd owns the house, farming business and the estate. North Cadbury Court is a trading arm of the farm business run by manager David Mattia as a separate entity.

DAVID MATTIA Manager

First half of David’s working life was spent in the wholesale and then retail motor trade. He built up a group of retail dealerships from nothing, ultimately employing some 200 people and turning over £20 million 25 years ago. After the 1990 market crash David survived by opening what must have been the first “dining club” in the UK run from a private home. His next project was to think up and create a business that in some ways was ebay before the “e” was invented.

David then went on to offer business consultancy services, anything from short term management or marketing projects to moving in as MD and running the business. Over a period of 20 years he worked in some 20 different industries - from extruding composite profiles to renting a ducal home. He has worked as manager at NCC for the past two years.

GEORGIA BAXTER Events Organiser

One of Georgia’s first jobs was to work for the royal family in Buckingham Palace. She then worked for 10 years in London planning and organising events and then joined David working at the home of the Duke of Somerset for 5 years. They continue to work together at NCC. Georgia is responsible for looking after the clients once they’ve booked. She helps them plan and organises their stay with us, where needed she will manage their event on the day.

AMELIA NASH Housekeeping Manager

Amelia also worked for the Duke of Somerset for their contract cleaners. When the contract company was closed NCC asked her to head up their housekeeping team. Today she manages the house and the housekeeping team, recruits and manages the cleaning team, all of the other contractors (laundry etc) and takes responsibility for the house being ready for each client as they arrive. With some 50 rooms that’s no small task! She is the person who is responsible for ensuring that the house is totally “up to scratch” at the moment every client arrives.

THE TEAM

We also have a team whom we introduce to our clients to perform various tasks ranging from child minding to cooking breakfast, serving, clearing, cleaning and generally holding their hand to make their stay in NCC as good as it could be. We even have a singing wine waiter!

Rocking the Catwalk, a fashion show featuring top designers and leading West Country boutiques, took place recently in the

stunning surroundings of North Cadbury Court.

The event, designed to celebrate Somerset Style, was in aid of local charity Flying Colours which is urgently raising funds for a new Special Care Baby Unit at Yeovil Hospital.

More than 200 guests gathered for cocktails and canapés before the show, which featured national brands such as Alice Temperley and Penelope Chilvers, and local boutiques such as Deadly is the Female and Holly Lane. The outfits were modelled by local students and a group

of jockeys, lead by Grand National winner Daryl Jacob. The show culminated in a finale with a bespoke bridal gown by Sew Skilled, made exclusively for Rocking the Catwalk.

Western Gazette 19th September 2013 Hosted Flying Colours CharIty Fashion Show:

JOCKEYS are swapping their horses for the catwalk to raise money to help premature and poorly babies. Paul Nicholls’ yard in Ditcheat has provided male models for the Rocking the Catwalk fashion show next week. The event is being held to raise money for the Flying Colours Appeal, which is raising £500,000 for a new Special Care Baby Unit at Yeovil Hospital. The show is being produced by Somerset stylist and wardrobe consultant Natasha Musson and it involves a number of national designers and brands. Among the designers will be Alice Temperley, Cordings, Bill Amberg and Penelope Chilvers, with top local boutiques such as Deadly is the Female, Boho, The Laundry and Holly Lane.

Ms Musson has got a number of local boutiques, hairdressers and beauty salons involved, as well as the jockeys and local students who will be modelling, running the front of house and helping backstage.

She said: “I wanted to celebrate Somerset style and do something that would really grab people’s attention and help raise money for this fantastic charity.

“I had all three of my daughters at Yeovil District Hospital, so Flying Colours is something that is very close to my heart.

“We’ve got so much to offer in the West Country, this is a great opportunity to really show off what a wealth of talent we have.

“The range of fashion at our boutiques is bang on trend and second to none.

“The models are all regular students from local schools and colleges who have never done this before but they look amazing – the whole production is local.

“And we’ve got a real wow finale thanks to bridal designers Sew Skilled.”

The runway show is set to take place at 8pm on Thursday, September 26, at North Cadbury Court, in North Cadbury.

James Kirton, head of fundraising for Flying Colours, has thanked everyone involved.

He said: “At Flying Colours we are urgently trying to raise the funds we need for a new a Special Care Baby Unit with more space for families.

“Every donation we receive brings us a step closer to being able to start work on the new unit. This is a fantastic event, we’ve never been involved with anything like it before.

“We’d like to say a very big thank you to all the local businesses, helpers, models, boutiques and designers involved.”

MIGHT North Cadbury have been able to boast that Jane Austen married its Rector?

An event in the village’s St Michael’s Church will explore the connections between Jane and the Rev Blackall.

Ron Wood, author, musician and priest, will speculate on her visits and the names of Benet, Wickham and Wentworth, which can be found on memorial plaques in the church, and also Admiral Croft.

Angela Barlow, actor of film, stage, television and radio, will then present Jane Austen and Character - An Actor’s View.

The Camelot Connection - Jane Austen and North Cadbury takes place at 6.30pm on Thursday 17th October, and will be followed by an optional fork supper at North Cadbury Court - a mediaeval house associated with the church and the Bennett family and which was possibly the basis for Kellynch Hall in Persuasion.

Western Daily Press, 28th September 2012 Sir Bob Geldof performs at NCC

www.westerndailypress.co.uk/Sir-Bob-Geldof-gives-exclusive-performance/story-17003654-detail/story.html

Sir Bob Geldof gave an exclusive performance to 250 invited guests at a Somerset country house last night to support a new organisation aiming to turn around the lives of young offenders while they are still in prison.

The event at North Cadbury Court, near Wincanton, where Key4Life announced the launch of an innovative new programme.

It hopes to address the fact that 74 per cent of young offenders between the ages of 15 and 17 are likely to re-offend within one year.

Sir Bob and guests heard first hand from two former youth offenders how their lives were turned around through the support they found from Key4Life in it’s pilot work in 2011.

In the initial phase of the campaign Key4Life will work in partnership with Ashfield Young Offenders Institution, Bristol to deliver two pilot programmes involving 20 young offenders. The scheme provides coaching and support to help young offenders.

Key4Life founder and leading charity and welfare expert, Eva Hamilton said: “I have been privileged to work with the most marginalised people in society for nearly 30 years and it never ceases to amaze me how these courageous people, given the right intervention, can turn their lives around.”

NCC History North Cadbury Court

This has been our family home for 100 years but with a history dating back 700 years to 1300. It was first a medieval hall built by the de Moels and the original magnificent roof trusses are visible in several rooms today.

In 1337 it was sold to William Botreaux from Cornwall and a descendant, Elizabeth, rebuilt the neighbouring church in the early 1400’s, and founded a college for priests in 1427 in the house, though this was never established.

Sir Francis Hastings leased the building from his brother, the Earl of Huntingdon and in 1580’s built the large Elizabethan mansion, before it was sold in 1596 to Matthew Ewens, a Baron of the Exchequer.

In 1610 it was purchased by Richard Newman who had the misfortune of being imprisoned by Oliver Cromwell for lending his support to King Charles I but was forgiven a little later by King Charles II. The house and estates stayed in the Newman family for another 150 years.

The Bennett family purchased the house and its lands in the 1760’s and it remained in their family for the next 100 years. During that time they added a ballroom and the very attractive Georgian style south façade and their coat of arms can still be seen above the main door.

In 1910 the house and estate was purchased by my grandfather Sir Archibald Langman, who as a Londoner yearned for the rural

pursuits, and he, with his young wife Eleanor, became active on the farm, and started making the cheddar cheese for which the estate is now world famous.

He had only recently returned from the Boer War where he had donated a field hospital. He and his friend and surgeon, Arthur Conan Doyle, were briefly taken prisoner by the enemy, and he personally took the amazing photographs behind the Boer lines that hang on the stairs.

During the Second World War a London nursery was evacuated into the house (apparently responsible for some of the stains on the ballroom floor!). After the war a large part of the house was lent to the YMCA as part of a scheme to train under-privileged city boys who wanted an entry into farming. Between 1948 and 1966 several hundred young men learnt their trade here, and many have returned from farms all over the world to revisit us.

North Cadbury Court remains to this day a key part of our farmed estate, the custodianship of which our family remains passionate about. The lovely house is as iconic as the hill we farm, Cadbury Castle, visible from its windows, and we hope that the Court’s future will be as enduring as those legends of King Arthur.

I just wanted to say a big thank you from nick and I for all your help in making our day so special and run like clockwork, we honestly could not have had a better day. Everyone was very complimentary about NCC and they all loved the rooms, the grounds and drinking wine by the fire! The Friday evening was a testament to your staff, who did a brilliant job keeping on top of things and allowing us to just enjoy ourselves and not worry about the food or clearing up. We’d love to find an excuse to come back and do it all again, if we can round up enough people I am sure we will be back! Once again, a huge thank you.

Georgia, first and foremost, many thanks for all your calm assistance behind the scenes. You and your team’s help was much appreciated by all of us and it enabled the week-end to run like clockwork. I am sure you will be pleased to know that everyone that we’ve spoken to or heard from loved the whole occasion; they thought NNC was a magical and beautiful place, so clearly you are on to a winner! Georgia, Ade and I would like to thank you for all your support in planning the weekend with us. We all had a great time. Everyone was certainly impressed and kept walking around saying ’ Wow’ and pretending they were in Downton, (which I don’t think has a patch on it!).

North Cadbury Court is one of the finest country houses in the south west of England. Dating back 700 years with Elizabethan and Georgian additions it has always been a family home and it remains one to this day. The difference being that today you can rent the whole house and its grounds for your exclusive use for a weekend or longer.

Set in glorious Somerset countryside overlooking farmlands and Cadbury Castle; the site of King Arthur’s Court of Camelot, the house is just two hours drive from both London and the Midlands

The owners, a farming family who have been producing the world famous Montgomery Cheddar cheese for over 100 years, have renovated the house to a standard expected for a house of this importance. With modern plumbing and central heating via a biomass boiler the house is now warm, comfortable and useable throughout the year.

While the house is spacious, with 21 bedrooms (almost all with en-suite bathrooms) a grand dining hall, library, two reception rooms, games room with full-sized snooker table, a disco in the basement and a wonderful ballroom capable of seating 150 for a formal dinner, it nevertheless retains the feel of a family home.

Its grounds are informal and equally impressive containing one hard and two lawn tennis courts, a croquet lawn and two fishing lakes. A covered, heated swimming pool, a fitted gym and sauna will be completed by April 2014. A grass landing strip is close by.

North Cadbury Court, like many houses of its type, was built for entertaining and is perfect for that purpose today. When renting the house you have almost total flexibility giving the opportunity to organise your stay as you wish it to be. However, whilst offering this opportunity, we recognise that this can present some difficulties. To minimise these we include the services of an expert planning/organising person who will give as much time as necessary to help ensure a totally successful stay.
