Presider: Fr. James Cassidy The St. Joan of Arc MLK Choir leads our sung prayer today. They are joined by actor/singers T Mychael Rambo and Thomasina Petrus. T Mychael will share the challenging words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Thomasina will read the work of poet/activist/leader of the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes (1902-1967). Welcome and thank you for stirring our souls! And to truly cap this day, make sure to attend our concert this evening at 7 pm with guests including Debbie Duncan, Bruce Henry and Rep. Keith Ellison. Tickets are on sale after Mass. There are no Family Masses today. See you back in the Church on Jan. 24! I am confident that the SJA community has celebrated very well the gift of 2015 and are well on our way to embrace the opportunities, as well as the challenges of our new year, 2016. It occurs to me that the years tend to come and go a bit "faster" than I recall over much of my life. I would imagine everyone has their own favorite answer as to why that might be. I prefer to keep it an open question! I am excited about our new journey in 2016. I also want to express my deep gratitude for your ongoing support and generosity of our Sus- taining Partner, Arm In Arm In Africa. As you will recall, I was able to provide an update on the ongoing ministry of AIAIA in late November and there was a second collection for the ongoing work of our mission. As a result of that collection, the parish contributed $39,900 to support the various ministries, including food distribution, health care, and education. As we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King this weekend, I would like to share a quote from his wife, Coretta Scott King; "The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members, a heart of grace and a soul generat- ed by love." There really are not words to convey the extraordinary gratitude I have for your compassion, love, and your ongoing commitment to our brothers and sisters in South Africa. SJA consistently "welcomes the stranger" by stepping up throughout the entire year and sup- porting all of our various outreach ministries. As President of Arm In Arm In Africa, I simply want to extend my profound gratitude. You make a huge difference in the world of many women, men and children in our world community. Our 2016 delegation is fast approaching our departure for South Africa in late February. We will have a blessing/send off for the delegation at our Gym Masses on Valentine's Day week- end. We have 15 individuals preparing for this year's mission. Please keep them and their families in your prayers in this next month as we depart for South Africa on Feb. 20. Parking: Be considerate of our neighbors and their property. Please don’t block driveways or park in their on-street handicapped areas. Thank you! Consider Carpooling or Riding the City Bus to Church: Go to metrotransit.org for more information. Thank you!

I also want to express my deep gratitude for your ongoing support and generosity of our Sus-taining Partner, Arm In Arm In Africa. Martin Luther King this weekend, I would like to share a quote from his wife, Coretta Scott King; "The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members, a heart of grace and a soul generat-ed by love." There really are not words to convey the extraordinary gratitude I have for your compassion, love, and your ongoing commitment to our brothers and sisters in South Africa. SJA consistently "welcomes the stranger" by stepping up throughout the entire year and sup-porting all of our various outreach ministries. As President of Arm In Arm In Africa, I simply want to extend my profound gratitude. You make a huge difference in the world of many women, men and children in our world community. Our 2016 delegation is fast approaching our departure for South Africa in late February. We will have a blessing/send off for the delegation at our Gym Masses on Valentine's Day week-end. We have 15 individuals preparing for this year's mission. Please keep them and their families in your prayers in this next month as we depart for South Africa on Feb. 20.

Wedding Policies at St. Joan of Arc: Weddings at St. Joan of Arc

are provided as a service to members of the parish community. Because of the large number of wed-dings, it is not possible to provide the services of a Presider or our facilities for people who are not reg-istered parishioners. For a wedding to take place at SJA, it is necessary that one of the engaged couple

be a registered member of the parish for at least six months before a wedding date can be set. A date can only be scheduled by one of the priests after an initial interview with the engaged couple. A minimum of six months from the time the date is set to the wedding is necessary in order to complete requirements. In cases where there has been a previous marriage ending in divorce, it is not possible to set the wedding date until notice of an annulment is in hand. FFI call Mary Ann at the Parish Center.

On Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7 pm at Mayflower United Church of Christ, we will co-host an Encounter with the Leaders of Black Lives Matter. What are your questions about this movement? What is being asked of allies? What is being proposed for the future? Come and be a part of this crucial dialogue.

We form the faith of our community through participation in prayer, liturgy, sacraments, education, community and works of justice.
