I hope this year will be a great year for our 1,150 members who are located across America. My new year’s wish is that everyone will find gold in their pan as well as a wealth of blessings throughout the year. We finished off 2016 with our final event, an excellent end-of-year party that included great food and entertainment, as well as a 50/50 nugget drawing for participants. Everyone had a great time over din- ner and listening to Brother Richard’s one-man band; which included couples choosing to cut-a-rug on the dance floor. The entertainment included magic, card tricks and good humor performed by the Davis Illusionist Act. The timeliness of my snowman joke, “What did one snowman say to the other, ‘Hey, Charley, do you smell carrots?’” was understandably booed by many. Yet, it was a great transi- tion in announcing that “the carrots are done” and dinner is ready to be served. The Outings Commit- tee did a great job planning and decorating the hall for this occasion as well our other events through- out the year. The efforts of this group of dedicated, volunteer members compliments our club with organized, educational and fun outings for members and their families and guests. The end of 2016 brought change to our Board. The terms ended for our past president, Fred Horn; secretary, Faye Weber; and board member, Reeve Kahabka. Their contributions to our club cover al- most 20 years of combined, dedicated service. They are appreciated and they will be missed in their past roles. Please take a moment to review your current Board roster in this newsletter. I welcome all new members to our Board. Please note the Outings Committee roster, also listed in this newsletter. So, where are we headed under the direction of the newly, elected Board? Recruitment is on our list; adding and educating new members to our club. We will continue to give a VIP (0.3 to 0.4 DWT) gold nugget to members who recruit new people. Also, we are actively looking to add new claims to our more than 5,000 acres in Arizona claims. New board member, Les Glover, is in charge of volunteers dedicated to preserving our claims status with the BLM. Our inspectors are identified by RRPC door magnets and ID's. This team is not to be considered a policing group, but is there to help and protect our claims from uninformed claim jump- ers. Also, they are a perfect recruiting presence for non-members they find on our claims. If you see anyone of them, please say hello and respect that they are out to see that no non-member picks up your gold. Finally, as we are stewards of the land, we are implementing a program to haul out more garbage than was hauled in. Members will be invited to submit a photo of themselves, family members and guests removing bags of trash. These members will be placed in the monthly VIP gold nugget draw- ing. More information will follow. Watch for our planning calendar for exciting outings. A note to the wise: The desert is beautiful, yet unforgiving, so be prepared and be safe. Volume 31-1 A Monthly Newsletter Published by the RoadRunner Prospector’s Club January 2017

Welcome to 2017.

Everyone had a great time over din-ner and listening to Brother Richard’s one-man band; which included couples choosing to cut-a-rug on the dance floor. The entertainment included magic, card tricks and good humor performed by the Davis Illusionist Act. The timeliness of my snowman joke, “What did one snowman say to the other, ‘Hey, Charley, do you smell carrots?’” was understandably booed by many. Yet, it was a great transi-tion in announcing that “the carrots are done” and dinner is ready to be served. The Outings Commit-tee did a great job planning and decorating the hall for this occasion as well our other events through-out the year.

Their contributions to our club cover al-most 20 years of combined, dedicated service.

This team is not to be considered a policing group, but is there to help and protect our claims from uninformed claim jump-ers.

These members will be placed in the monthly VIP gold nugget draw-ing. More information will follow. Watch for our planning calendar for exciting outings. A note to the wise: The desert is beautiful, yet unforgiving, so be prepared and be safe.

Annual Claims Usage Survey

Enclosed with this newsletter is the annual Claims Usage Survey which will help the club determine which claims are being utilized. In addition, the information provided will be used to complete the yearly claims report required by the Army Corps of Engineers by the end of March. The club will use the information to make informed decisions concerning our claims. Please take the time to complete the survey. It will greatly help the club. Just re-view the detailed instructions at the top of the survey form. Our dredging claims have boxes with bold lines and will require your best estimate of hours worked and cubic yards dredged.

The survey will be in the January, February, and March newsletters, and can be filled out and returned electronically, printed out and mailed to the office, or brought to the January, February or March meetings. Blank survey forms will be available at the meetings. Our deadline in receiving the information on the surveys is the March 16th general meeting. Mailed-in forms must be received at the club office by March 15th.

Claims Inspection/Maintenance

On December 12th, a nine man crew including myself went to the Pennyweight 1 and 2 claims at Morristown and filled in over twelve holes. A small car could have been driven into two of these holes. The next time you see any of the men; Lonny Wickersheim, Terry Blood, George DeHaven, Wayne George, James Hennessy,

Mike Furness (with Max), Ron Webb and Gale Baker, please make sure you thank them for taking care of our claims.

Thank you, Les Glover—Claims Inspection/Maintenance

January Dutch Oven Outing

Come join us on January 21st on the Cass Claims just above the wind mill. We will be having a joint outing with the GPAA members to have a swap meet and a Dutch oven class / cookout. Bring your extra outdoor or prospecting equipment to sell or trade. Or if you are looking for equipment this might be a good time to find what you are looking for. And if you are interested in learning how to cook in a Dutch oven or learn some new tricks you are welcomed to attend the class and to help prepare some good food. There is no need to at-tend the Dutch Oven class if you just want to come out and sample the fine food we will be preparing. We will be preparing Mexican food in cast iron cook wear and the usual desserts will also be served. We will begin the swap meet at 0800 and the cooking class will start at 10:00 with the goal to have everything ready to serve around 12:00 noon. We will need a head count of who will be attending so we have enough food to go around. You can send me a head count at [email protected] or call me at 602-751-7156. Bring your own drinks, table, and chairs. We will have paper plates and plastic ware but you can bring your own dishes and silverware if you prefer. If you care to spend the night we will try to have a bon fire Saturday night and maybe another Dutch Oven desert to share around the fire. Hope to see you there. Al Ordorica

Long time member, Ray Shouse recently passed away. Ray and Patricia from Buckeye, AZ joined the club in

May of 1983.

Quartzsite Claims Marking

December 29th, Les Glover, Brian Bierman, George DeHaven, and myself, traveled to

Quartzsite and finished the Diablo Placer remarking project. We placed 16 corner markers

and pulled the old and now obsolete previous markers. This project was a result of 3 months

of effort. As many of you already know, the BLM decided that our 3 existing Diablo Placer

claims did not fit the gulch placer definition and were subject to being dropped. We decided

that in order to keep as much ground as possible, the claims would need to be re-filed as 4

new ones. New coordinates and Location Notices had to be calculated and drawn up to meet

the BLM standards. We had 30 days to physically put the location Notices on the ground.

Next, member Terry Kehiler assembled all the corner poles, painted them, and engraved the

pole signs. Pete recorded the LNs at La Paz County and I then recorded them at the BLM

downtown. Our trek last Thursday was the final step in completing the process. This effort

took a great deal of time, sweat, and perseverance. I would like to thank all of those volun-

teers that helped make it possible. PS: Brian stayed and prospected. See his finds below…..
