President’s Message Cathy Weis, BOD President Why is it that time seems to move so quickly now-a-days? It feels like I just wrote my August newsletter message yesterday! Where does the time go? I know many of you feel the same when you visit with your families and friends and see how much those little ones have grown! But…we continue to live the blessed life here in beautiful Tidewater Plantation... for that I am most grateful. I am pleased to inform you that the Beach Cabana Satellite Parking is now complete! As promised, Coastal Asphalt finished their work in August and we installed the required fencing on the two sides where there are neighboring houses. As previously mentioned, we now have 22 extra parking spaces; 23 in the new satellite and a reduction of one at the Cabana due to a requirement to add a second handicap spot. We hope you take advantage and enjoy this new amenity. We have discussed speeding in our newsletter, at BOD meetings and in general, ad nauseam as there are often complaints from residents regarding speeding. As a result, our Watchman Service conducted a speeding survey over the last few months, garnering 1780 checked vehicles across 9 major streets in Tidewater. This was an anonymous test; no identifications were tracked. The results of this test were very similar to the one conducted in 2010, indicating that 70% of the total vehicles were traveling under 25mph. Twenty-seven percent were traveling 15 - 30 mph; and just 3% were traveling over 30mph. The primary location where speeding was observed was on Tidewater Drive on the Plantation side, while the secondary location was Tidewater Drive on the Bluff’s side.

Teal Lake owners - Mark your calendars for the 2017 Annual Meeting. It will be held on Saturday, September 16, at 3 PM in the Cassels Building.

We are in the midst of hurricane season. Fortunately, we haven’t had any significant storms this year. But you can never be too prepared. Here are some helpful hurricane tips to follow:

• Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the local hurricane evacuation route(s) to take and have a plan for where you can stay.

• Put together a go-bag: disaster supply kit, including a flashlight, batteries, cash, first aid supplies, medications, and copies of your critical information if you need to evacuate.

• If you are not in an area that is advised to evacuate and you decide to stay in your home, plan for adequate supplies in case you lose power and water for several days and you are not able to leave due to flooding or blocked roads.

• Make a family emergency communication plan.

• If a storm is to occur, FirstService Residential will be sending out alerts through email blasts.

For Teal Lake - If you are an absentee owner and leave your unit for an extended period of time, feel free to contact us to have Jeff turn your water off. Turning your water off when you are away could help with unpredictable leaks that would go unnoticed if the unit is unoccupied.

• For Teal Lake - The pest control for 2017 will be Saturday, November 3. Please mark your calendars accordingly.

• For Heron Lakes - For 2017 the pest control dates are: Friday, September 1 and Friday, December 1. Please mark your calendars accordingly.

Again, if there are any maintenance concerns, please contact the management office so it can be arranged for Jeff to stop by and inspect.

As always, if anyone has any questions you can contact me at [email protected] or 843-663-3500.

Board Meeting – Monday, October 16

Watch Your Speed

Recently, there have been many concerns with excessive speed within the Association’s parking lots. The recommended speed limit is 20 mph - did you know that the total stopping distance at 20mph is 67 feet under ideal conditions?

There are people taking walks, jogging, walking pets, etc., throughout the neighborhood and following the recommended speed limit will help keep us all safe. We know life can be hectic and sometimes it seems like going a little bit faster or not coming to a complete stop at that stop sign is not that big of a deal, but it only takes a split second for an accident to happen.

We would like to remind all our residents to please be considerate of your neighbors and take that little bit of extra time to be a safe driver.

Home Smoke DetectorsPrevention Through Detection

The majority of fatalities that occur in home fires happen at night when people are asleep. Contrary to popular belief, the smell of smoke may not wake a sleeping person. Smoke produced by a fire can numb the senses and quickly put you into a deeper sleep. Household smoke detectors can cut your chances of dying in a home fire by approximately 40 percent by sounding an alarm and alerting you and your family to a fire in time to escape.

Selecting a Detector: Smoke detectors are available in a variety of brands and can be purchased in hardware, department and discount stores. Make sure the detector you buy has been approved and tested by the Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL). Battery-operated units are preferable to those that run on electric current. Make sure you have a battery back-up if you do purchase a detector which runs by electricity.

Installation: Smoke detectors should be installed in hallways just outside the bedrooms in single-story homes. A minimum of two detectors are recommended for two-story homes. On the bottom floor, place it near the bedrooms. If there are no bedrooms downstairs, detectors should be installed in or near living areas, dens or family rooms. On the second floor, detectors should be placed just outside the bedrooms. Detectors should NOT be installed near kitchens or heat ducts where something could set off false alarms.

Harbor LoftKaty Swimm, OMNI Management Services, Inc. Watch for upcoming information on repairs to the bridge going into Harbor Loft. There could be possible closure/re-routing or one lane available for entry. Tidewater Plantation is in the process of requesting/receiving engineering proposals. Please drive with caution when coming into Harbor Loft due to contractors working on homes, children playing in streets and now, more traffic in the community.

DRB: It is a requirement by the Harbor Loft Board and DRB for all Owners to complete a DRB application for any repairs/replacements or additions to the outside of units. Please check the website for any cost that may be involved from the DRB. All forms need to be sent to [email protected] to be
