filter, and will not cover the hole 26.065 to 28.755 frequency band with full senistivity. To achive maximum sensitivity for 26.065MHz C4 will increase to 36pF, and for 28.755MHz C4 will reduce to 29pF. This is possible by a varicapdiode. To cover the hole band, replace C4 with 22pF ceramic capacitor and connect the varicap tuned circuits across C4. Connect 100kohm resistor to TP2. Set the station to RX AM 27.405 MHz. Connect the DC Voltmeter to TP2 and adjust L405 for 2.5 Volt +/- 0.01 Volt. The VCO-Voltage will then be 4,[email protected] and 1,[email protected]. The BB134 or BB156 is 14pF@1,5Volt and 7pF@4,4Volt, and 14pF||22pF=36pF and 7pF||22pF=29pF. Re-adjust L2 for maximum gain.

Improved receive gainQuieting of SSB and AM reception and improving gain of incoming signals is a common request from radio operators.

In the first stages of the HF input 2SC1674 (Q8) transistor can be found. This transistor is responsible for the amplification of a small detected signals. A problems exist if the transistor itself is noisy as is such the case of the 2SC1674 when compared to other low noise packages. Along with the amplification of the incoming signals is transistor noise. Replacement of this transistor with a higher gain, lower noise transistor greatly improves the signal to noise ratio of your receiver.

The transistor Q8 operates at VCE= 6Volt and IE= 2,5mA. We will use an 2SC2999 transistor that has higher gain and lower noise characteristic. Replace 2SC1674 (Q8) with 2SC2999 (or similar low noise and high gain transistor) to achieve this improved signal to noise ratio. Re-adjust L2. The gain will improved with more than 6dB with the same signal to noise ratio.

PLL Converter for President GeorgeConverter for 12-meter and 10-meter HAM-Radio Band

The President George PLL-Circuit

The VCO generate 36.760MHz to 39.450MHz. The transmit/receiver frequency is fVCO - 10.695MHz.

The Converter

The Converter consist of an Mixer, 2.000MHz X-Tal Oscillator and a Band Pass Filter. The Band Pass Filter`s input controls the band select and fine Tuning in the band.

The Converter is connected in the PLL feedback-loop, and will convert the VCO-frequency 2MHz up or down. This will let the PLL2002A to beliwe that the VCO-frequency allways is 36.760MHz to 39.450MHz. In the High Band (10-meter) the Display will be 26.065 in Band A Channel 1, so you have to add 2MHz to the Display value. In the Low Band (12-meter) the Display will be 26.065 in Band A Channel 1, so you have to subtract 2MHz from the Display value.

The President George PLL-Circuit with Converter

l Serial input and serial or parallel outputl Serial output enables cascade connectionl Built-in latch for each stagel Enable input provides output controll Low supply current (standby current ICC=10mA) l Serial I/O level is compatible with typical CMOS devicesl Driver features: High withstand voltage (BVCEO=30V) l Wide operating temperature range Ta=-20 – +75°C

FUNCTIONThe M54995 consists of 8 stages of D-type flip flops connected to8 latches.Data is input to serial input S-IN, and clock pulses are input toclock input T. When the clock changes from low to high, the inputdata enters the first shift register and data already in the shiftregisters is shifted sequentially. The serial output S-OUT is used to connect multiple M54995 toexpand the number of parallel outputs. S-OUT is connected to S-INof the next stage. For parallel output. When the clock pulse changes from low tohigh, latch input (LATCH) is high and output enable input (EN) islow the serial input data at S-IN appears at output O1 and the otherdata already present is shifted sequentially to outputs O2 throughO8.The parallel outputs are inverted. When the latch input is held low, the latch retains the stored data. When the EN input is high, outputs O1 through O8 all turn off. Asthe internal logic is unstable when the power is turned on, the ENinput should be kept high (setting outputs O1 through O8 off) untilinput data is set and the internal logic is initialized.L-GND is the GND of CMOS logic circuit and P-GND is the GND ofoutput driver circuits O1 through O8 which employ bipolartransistors capable of large drive currents.

Serial data input timing

Divider data setting procedure

Input data must be MSB first. Final bit (17th bit) is assigned to the control bit. Data are written into shift register at the rising edge of the CLK signal. When LE is HIGH, data is transferred from the shift register to either the latch of reference divider or input divider. Thus data must be written on the shift register while LE is remaining L0W.

While all bits of the N latch to are "0", the N counter will be disabled, DOA, DOP are floating, and the supply current will be decreased. While all bits of the R latch are "0", oscillator will be disabled. While all bits of R and N latches are "0" , supply current decreases to 10uA or less.

Improved receive gainQuieting of AM reception and improving gain of incoming signals is a common request from radio operators.
