Presidency 1933-1945Democratic Party

Born on January 30, 1882 in Hyde Park, New York Roosevelt was the only child of James and Sara Delano Roosevelt. The family lived in luxury, dividing its time between the family estate in the Hudson River Valley of New York state and European living. Young Roosevelt was homeschooled until age 14, when he entered Groton Preparatory School in Groton, Massachusetts. At Groton, as at home, he was taught to be a gentleman, assuming responsibility for those less fortunate and exercising Christian stewardship through public service. In 1900 Roosevelt went to Harvard University, where he fell in love with Theadore Roosevelts niece Eleanor Roosevelt. The distant cousins became engaged during Roosevelt's final year at Harvard, and they were married on March 17, 1905.

Franklin's BACKGROUND

            Political Rise

  Was a Harvard student, later entered Columbia Law School; 2 years later, after passing the bar exam rooselvelt dropped out and became a corporate lawer at a firm on Wall Street. In 1910, Roosevelt took his first steps into the public life and ran for senate in his home district of Hyde Park. From 1912-1920 FDR was Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Succes with so, Roosevelt was chosen by the Democratic Party to run for vice president along side Ohio Gov.James Cox. (Campaign unsuccessful)1932-Presidential Candidate. With America falling deeper and deeper into the Great Depression which had dogged hoover entire presidency, Roosevelt became a domnant figure and perfect candidate to take advantage of the Republican Party.

                    Religion

  a christian belief but different. Deism is the belief that god does exist but after his role in the Creation of all things kept himself aloof from the universe and let nature take its own course.He was a scientist which he was bound to reason: Deism

  While Roosevelt balanced the "regular" budget was the emergency budget was funded by debt, which increased to 40.9% in 1936 (remained level until WWII) which in time escalated rapidly

Franklin D. Roosevelt Key Domestic Policy Issues

When Roosevelt entered the White House the nation was in the grip of the worst Depression of all time. The government under President Herbert Hoover had tried to stimulate the economy by appropriating large sums of money for public works

and making large loans to businesses, but this strategy failed. The economy spiraled ever downward between 1930 and 1932, and the American people were overcome with frustration, rage, and fear. They blamed the government for their

troubles and looked for new answers.Roosevelt attempted to provide these answers. During the five-year period between 1933 and 1938, a whirlwind of legislative activity took place that is collectively known as the New Deal. This did not end the Depression, prosperity did not return until the United States entered World War II.

Foreign Policy Issues

Roosevelt sounded very much as an isolationist in his first inaugural address when he said that "our international trade relations, though vastly important, are, in point of time and necessity, secondary to the establishment of a sound national economy." Yet Roosevelt also displayed distinctly internationalist colors in the early years of the New Deal. He favored Hull's campaign to secure passage of the Trade Agreements Act. Roosevelt also sought to implement the "Good Neighbor policy" with Latin America

Success and Failure

Success:-During WWII He had the foresight to supply Great Britain before USA got involved directly and he had the good sense to drop dead before he gave all of Europe over to the Soviets instead of just half. 

Failures:-Under FDR's policy, the country made very little headway. Indeed, in 1937 there was another big downturn, a "depression within the depression" -- and all of this when FDR's activist plans were being fully implemented.

"Unprecedented"

Not only was this word used in his speech of The Four Freedoms but it is used to describe him as an original president.

 

Would  Franklin D. Roosevelt be a President today?

                           mainly because he did get our nation out of the great depression, even though much of his plans failed in end he was the president who took our nation out of the depression. This would also be great for him to do over his mistakes and rework them again. By the time when Roosevelt died the United Sates was the most powerful nation in the world.

Today our nation is in a recession where our economy

is bad. Our unemployment rate has increased to 11% and in some states it has

evenn gone up to 15%. We believe Franklin D. Roosevelt would be a great candidate to

run for presidency

Post Presidential Activities

Motivated by his cousin Theodore, Roosevelt looked for an opportunity to start a career in politics. That opportunity came when The Democratic Party leaders of Dutchess county, NY, persuaded him to take a try at winning a seat in the state senate.He campaigned strenuously and won the election.
