empowers communities in Dadaab in – Providing rehabilitation including assistive

technology to people with disabilities.– Ensuring effective access to available

services within the camps through disability mainstreaming.

their communities”their communities”• In line with UNHCR’s strategy HI aims to

equip refugee workers with functional rehabilitation skills so they are able to serve people with disabilities in their communities as well as when they return to their countries of origin.

especially designed to formally build capacity of refugees on:

“Essential Principles and Practice of Functional Rehabilitation for

Rehabilitation Workers in under-served Areas (Refugee Camp

Context)”.

REHABILITATION WORKERS TRAINING

• The training aims to be very practical, focusing on result based for activity of daily living and participation of Persons with impairments.

• In Hospital, rehabilitation center and outreach (home based) settings.

• Flexibility measures have been set so negative effects of constraints of refugees for continuity attendance and turn-over can be mitigated.

• A “rehabilitation worker” certificate will delivered.

Training duration• 924 hours - 40 weeks – 10 months

– 314 hours theory and techniques (25 modules)

– 575 hours clinical placements (hospital, rehabilitation center and home based mentored by Kenyan professionals)

– 35 hours intermediary and final evaluation• Alternate theory – clinical training.

Persons with disabilities have the same fundamental needs and rights than any other member of the society.

13 students 72% were certified (Dec 2013)only 5 refugees dropped off, among them 3 didn’t complete the final exam for

resettlement and family reasons but attended the course. 2 two others left the course because of 1 receiving scholarship and 1 returned

to secondary school
