1. Turn on / Turn off (start or stop the energy flow).
Examples:• Carlos turned on the light. • Could you please turn off the stove?
2. Turn up / Turn down (increase or decrease the volume or strength).
Examples: • Lina turned up the volume on the radio. • Could you turn down the volume of
music?
3. Run out of (stay without)
Example: • I ran out of sugar.
4. Break down (stop functioning)
Example: • My washing machine broke down and
I could not do laundry.
5. Break into (enter forcibly)
Example: • Strangers are breaking into the house.
6. Grow up (become an adult)
Example: • Where did you grow up?
7. Get to (arrive) 8. Check in (register at a hotel or airport)
Example: • When I got to hotel I checked in.
9. Look for (try to find)
Example: • I'm looking for a suit for work.
10. Hold on (wait a short time)
Example: • Please hold on while the doctor
arrives.
