• The Simulator then analyses and compares the teams' decisions and produces a Management Report for each team, showing the detailed results in financial and operational terms.

• This process is repeated over Five Developing Decision Periods during the Competition, simulating a year and a quarter of the companies activity.

TEAM Roles & Responsibilities

TEAM LEADER / MANAGERTeam Leader is the overall manager, supervisor and representative of the team and all affairs related to the competition.

S/He is typically the primary contact for the Global Management Challenge office before, during, and after the competition on matters related to team coordination and management. During the competition, it is the Team Leader's responsibility to ensure that his/her team submits the Decision Sheet online by 1pm noon on the specific due day.

S/He is also responsible for ensuring that the Management Report issued after every quarter of the competition has the correct company information. Not only do Team Leaders keep members informed, but they also motivate them by maximizing each person’s unique talents and creating synergy and excitement among the wider group.

SALES & MARKETING

Marketing Department is responsible for creating demand and selling the company's products successfully in the face of competition from rival companies. To do this successfully, you must review the marketplace and the competition, prepare strategic marketing plans, and make decisions that activate plan implementation both in the short term and long term. You must also work with the company's other functional departments to make sure that sales are profitable and that the company runs efficiently.

PRODUCTION & DISTRIBUTION

Production Department is responsible for making and distributing the company's products as efficiently and economically as possible (all within the standards of quality set by the Marketing Dept.). This implies working with Marketing to ensure that their forecasts for demand can be met by a sufficient flow of products, both in the short term and the long term. It also implies working Human Resources to ensure that there is sufficient labor to do the job at reasonable cost.

The production team has to have strong foresight, especially when it pertains to sufficient machinery and purchasing of raw materials. Decisions made by this department may not take into effect for 2-3 quarters.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Human Resources Management/Department (HRM) is responsible for ensuring that the company has sufficient workers to function properly and that the workforce is not just efficient, but also well-motivated.

Workers must be found in a competitive labor market, within which people can move from company to company seeking the best terms and conditions. The supply of people in the labor market can significantly affect your company's ability to operate efficiently. HRM implies monitoring the labor market, working with the other functional departments in the company to forecast what demand for labor will be, and taking steps both in the short and long terms to make sure that HRM targets are met.

FINANCE, ASSETS & ACCOUNTING

Finance Department is responsible for ensuring that the company's funds are managed efficiently and in line with corporate strategy. This implies a variety of roles, which include monitoring profitability, managing investments, borrowings, the company’s fixed assets, taxation, and dividend policies.

Most importantly, it must work closely with the management team to maximize the company’s investment performance, against which performance is judged.
