How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

In our music video, the colours used are predominantly bland and ordinary, focussing around colours such as black, white and blue. The same applies to the font used as it is simple and easy to read. Allowing the audience to find the information quicker and more efficiently.

Our album front/ back cover and insert work all adhere to forms and conventions of real album products by including typical features that are expected for industry standard. The typography demonstrates a clear sizing hierarchy within the album; as the Band logo and album title are presented significantly larger than any other text. Along with the contributing factor that all three band members are shown to be enlarged on the album front cover, it emphasizes that they're the centre of attention and most important, contributing to the band identification

When creating our ancillary products we attempted to create continuity with this theme by also using the relatable colours. The more relation between the ancillary will help create a clear synergy for the audience to notice and decode.

The insert includes individual photo's of each band member to increase promotion and marketing. Along with the personal message included from the band, this is done to attract to their fan base by appealing to them with a well natured approach. This is a typical feature within album products, as it allows 'pop' artists to reach their fans on a more direct and personal level.

With this obvious synergy presented throughout both of our ancilary and production,

a clear creation of continuity is shown.

This attempt to help the audience establish a relationship between the two products is clearly

understood after the results of our primary market research.

This is important because it helps the audience identify features of our band. This can also help advertise our band as the marketing strategy created helps the audience easily identify the

bands CD in shops and online. This can be linked to ‘Anderson’s Long Tail theory’ as our

once niche based product has been publicised further through the accessibility of the internet and other online medias, pushing us further up the long tail towards becoming a mass product. As wikinomics would say a ‘perfect storm’ has

been created.

A main aspect in our music video and our ancilary is a focus on the female character. Therefore, we decided that it would be important to keep this focus within our CD cover. Although the girl isn’t a member of the band, she plays a vital role in our song and album, due to the romance between the lead singer, this would be supported the feminists who analysis media as the males and females are represented equally.

This would allow an audience to easily identify the band more easier from the video if they had seen the relatable CD cover, possibly leading to more singles being sold. Showing synergy can help the audience in decoding the text more effectively.

In the background is our female character. The large mise en scene setting around her represents that she plays a small part in our world.

With the ‘indie’ genre, the audience experts certain codes and conventions to be presented.

We attempted to converge the ancillary products with the music video by using the same, or similar locations, mise en scene and editing techniques.

For example the friendly nature of the members shown throughout the production can be linked to our band image as it shows the friendship of the band.

We have done this because we wanted there to be a clear link between all three products, so it makes it easier for the audience to identify and decode the artists and their productions.

A brand image is now created through the converging of all three products. He

key features of the band will now be easily recognisable due to the

synergetic productions being created to advertise them further, for example,

photographs, the logo, colours and font.

The continuity shown throughout the genre could also reinforce any possible beliefs that they may previously have from other bands in this similar genre,

for example, their dress sense, humour, principles etc.

Our convergence of products can be linked to McQuail's uses and gratification theory, as the audience can use these products that have been created for many different reasons such as; to gain a sense of identification, for entertainment, to reinforces their beliefs etc. The friendship and loving shown throughout are product for example could be linked to this theory as consumers who listen to this type of genre may be doing so to reinforce their beliefs and increase their personal identity/values.

Also the audiences demands to create a independent identification could be able to use our productions and ancillary projects to gain information and find some relatable ground.
