Boots on Ground : The Sailor/Librarian’s Latest Ports O’Call

Recently I was waiting in the Rehabilitation waiting room at my local V.A. hospital for injections to alleviate the pain in my knees, the worst of it after the meniscectomy I received last year for the knee damage sustained in Afghanistan. While I waited several men in ties walked past carrying prosthetic legs, followed by a tall, well built young man wearing black Under Armor with sensors connected to it at various points of his torso. I thought, “Marine? Special Forces? Clearly the physique of an excellent athlete. Why was he here in Rehab?” Perhaps because he lost most of his left leg while serving his country.

At the same time a program was airing on CNN, where three male and two female veterans were being interviewed. They spoke of the challenges they had continue to experience. Afterward the CNN anchor asked the reporter, “After all our service people go through, do they think it is worth it?” The reporter replied, “That is a great question … it isn’t going to war, or they pay, or anything like that … it is your fellow service members and a shared experience that makes it “worth it”. I can attest to that. Many of my closest and dearest friends I have only seen wearing military issue. I often look at my phone and see that 90 percent of the messages are somehow related to my military service.

Also, you have expertise in finding contracting positions, so please include that, too.  I just need something one page or half page that I can post to SlideShare and handout to LAC.  Something like this....
