“What are you scared of and why?”

This is what some people in London told us. Not surprisingly, some people were scared of

spiders. One woman who saw one in her house said it scared her to death.

Another man discovered he had a fear of heights only when he got to the top of the Petronas Towers in Malaysia. He said it was scary.

And one man was actually scared of clowns; although they're funny, he thinks they're evil!

“What are you scared of and why?” A survey in the UK found that 1 in 7 people

are scared of going to the dentist. Phobia is a word that means a persistent,

abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.

For example: She has been pruning the tree. （ prune= 刈り込む、（枝を）おとす） Find six more jobs she has been doing

this afternoon. Use these verbs:　　 paint, water, clean, mend,

burn, cut

Solutions:

She has been painting the fence. She has been watering the flowers. She has been cleaning the

windows. She has been mending the gate. She has been burning rubbish. She has been cutting the grass.

(7) 私はこの本を３時間読み続けている。 I [this book three hours for reading been have].　⇒ I have been reading this book for three

hours.(8) 私たちが結婚して 10年になります。 It [we got married since ten years has been].　⇒ It has been ten years since we got

married.

BBC Grammar Challenge

The present perfect is a verb form which links the past and present. We use it when we talk about an action or state which started in the past and which continues up to the present time.

For example: I‘ve lived in London since 1994.

I started living in London in 1994 and I ⇒still live in London now.
