Why Do People Work?

People work for many reasons, but, basically they work to bring personal meaning and satisfaction to themselves as well as benefits to society.

Of course people work for survival

People work to define themselves

People work to have a sense of security

People work for self-respect or to feel competent or powerful

People work to conquer time

People work to measure self-worth

Why Do People Work?

A reporter was interviewing a woman who worked for a famous actress. “What do you think about your employer’s enormous success?” he asked as she transferred a load of the celebrity’s clothes from washer to dryer. “I’m really pleased that she found something to fall back on,” came the reply. “Because she doesn’t know beans about doing laundry.”

I am highly skill ed in technology. I function as an unoffi cial school resource for our staff of 130 teachers. I model and collaborate on the creation of webpages, the use of wikipages for community communication and as student-directed lesson units, and the successful integration of technology into the classroom. I answer how-to questions regarding Microsoft applications such as PowerPoint, open-source software, podcasting, as well as compatibili ties issues between PC and Mac users.

Key Qualifications I am currently teaching Advanced Placement United States History. This curriculum is paired with AP English Language Arts which generates a more critical thinking and thematic approach to the class. Freshman Academy teacher, 2004-present. I was a ground floor member creating the Freshman Academy at Currituck County High School. I continue to refine enhanced learning opportunities for freshman and establish integrated educational environment.

Currently I am serving on an investigative/design committee for Currituck County’s new Early College High School.

I effectively promote a condition of high expectation for learning, enhance leadership and establish teaming among staff and students. I served on a two-year countywide Secondary Reform committee with educators, parents, and community members. Measures investigated and developed include the establishment of an alternative, reduced-credit certification; the formation of expectations in teacher development; instituting twenty-first century skills into school development programs; as well as other policies involving technology, positive behavior systems, the use of essential questions, and vertical curriculum integration. I have team taught in an Advancement Center, 2002-2003 as part of Currituck County High School’s redesigned alternative school to facilitate academic retention/success for at-risk students. I sponsored our Currituck Junior Historian club fostering a love of historical investigation into local history. In 2004 we won one state competition creating oral histories and written records of our Jarvisburg Colored School. The histories as well as an accurate Jarvisburg school model were placed in the county Public Library system. During 2005 we assisted in conducting the Poplar Branch archeological dig with the N.C. Archeological Association and East Carolina University. This past year, with the local Ruritan Club, we assisted in the management of the Vietnam Moving Wall presented to the entire school system as well as the local community. Research was conducted into the histories of five local soldiers who served during in Vietnam and student-guided tours where conducted. References available upon request

How Do I Create A Resume For Myself?

• Write it by yourself but get someone with experience to look it over

• Be brief, and stick to the point• Be positive• Be specific –say exactly what you mean• Use action words• Use short sentences• Don’t say anything negative• Perfection is expected, excellence will be

tolerated. No errors allowed!
