FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME—JULY 8, 2018

Plan your funeral: Sounds very crazy? One of the things that we do prior to the funeral is to meet with the family of the dead and prepare for the funeral like selecting the songs, readings, prayers etc. Sooner or later we all will have to leave this earthly dwelling to our eternal homeland. Several churches have this program of preparing one’s own funeral. The person meets with his or her pastor and selects read-ings, music and obituary. This information will be confident and will be saved in the church files and will be used when the person dies which makes it very easy for the funeral. I am going to meet with any-one who is interested to do this planning. Please call me at the Parish Office or send me an email if you would like to do the planning for your own funeral.

Abortion, A Great Evil: God's dominion over human life is reflected in the creation account that we see in Genesis: 2:7-8, 21-24. God has made us and so our lives and bodies are not absolutely our own, nor is our freedom of choice abso-lute. Various passages in the bible show that God forms the child in the womb and even establishes a relationship with that child preparing him/her for a mission in the world. Jeremiah 1:4-8 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…” Again we hear in the book of Wisdom Chapter 7:2 King Solomon speaks “God formed me in the womb of my mother….”, Psalm 139:13 King David prays “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb”. In the Gospel of Luke 1:41 we read when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb. These and several other passages in the Bible speaks to us that our life begins not at birth but at conception. Since we are not the owner of our life or of others we do not have any right to destroy either our life or others. The Catholic Church has always condemned abortion as a grave evil. Pope John Paul II in his encyclical Evange-lium Vitae (The Gospel of Life) have maintained that the Bible forbids abortion just as it forbids murder. Pope declared that church's teaching on abortion is unchanged and unchangeable. Abortion is a grave moral disorder since it is deliber-ate killing of an innocent child. Catechism of the Catholic Church speaks Article 2258 “human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains forever in a special relationship with it's creator. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning and it's end. No one can under any circumstances claims for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being.” Let us pray that everyone chooses life Bugs In The Food: One boy was eating with his dad and asked him a question- dad – are bugs good to eat—dad said don’t ask me those questions now ask later, another time. So the boy asked him- later, dad are bugs good to eat- the dad said why do you ask this question– the boy said while we were eating a bug fell in your soup. God’s blessings, Fr. Suneesh Mathew
