WHY CHOOSE PRE-IB?Pre-IB is a unique chance to meet both the international atmosphere of the IB programme as well as the Danish atmosphere of the Danish national programme. Pre-IB will introduce you to a wide variety of subjects which will enable you to make sound choices for the following years. Your future subject choices will be based on your own personal experiences rather than your expectations.

Pre-IB will award you with several C-levels from the Danish national programme. These qualifications will in many cases be helpful in applying to Danish universities after the IB Diploma. The C-levels are:

· Two of the natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology or physical geography) · One of the arts (music or visual arts) · The Danish C-levels are considered to be equivalent to British GCSEs

Pre-IB is by law equivalent to the first year of the Danish “Gymnasium”, the national three-year upper-secondary programme, and the Pre-IB year therefore offers you several alternatives in the Danish system, should you choose not to continue into the IB Diploma Programme. Pre-IB therefore prepares you for the two-year IB Diploma Programme as well as it awards you the qualifications from the 1st year Danish Programme and keeps doors open for transfers.

PRE-IB AT BIRKERØD GYMNASIUM

BG is one of the largest IB Diploma schools in Denmark. BG offers a truly international atmosphere with students from all over the world. BG has offered Pre-IB and the two-year Diploma Programme since 1991, hence we are highly experienced within the field. At BG there is a combination of Danish and inter-national teachers, and you will be taught by a wide range of teachers with numerous years of IB experience.

Pre-IB students from BG are guaran-teed a place in the IB Programme at BG, if they pass the Pre-IB year.Doing a Pre-IB year at BG will allow you to feel at home at the school before you start the academically challenging Diploma Programme. School routine and traditions will be known to you as well as teachers and classmates. BG is a school for teen- agers only, so the atmosphere is young and dynamic.

BG has a boarding section with room for 76 students. BG is a Danish public school which offers not only the IB but also the “Gymnasium” and the “HF”. As such, we introduce our Danish students to the world and our IB students to Denmark.

SUBJECTS IN PRE-IB

· English· Danish (at A-level, taught as mother tongue, or at three different B-levels, taught as beginner’s or second language)· French (if you have three years’ previous knowledge of the language)· A general linguistics course, including an introduction to Latin, for the first semester (called AP)· Two of the four sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Physical Geography· An interdisciplinary science course for the first semester (called NV)· History· Mathematics at two different levels · Visual arts or Music· Interdisciplinary project days (called AT)

In the subjects English and Mathema-tics we teach the British International GCSE syllabus. You will sit the official International GCSE examinations in May and thereby obtain International GCSE Certificates that can be used for university applications.

After having had all these subjects, you should be able to make good and wise subject choices for the IB Diploma Programme.
