FACULTY + VISITING ARTISTS
Learn from a faculty of professional artists and educators
who will encourage you to push limits and engage with
new art mediums. Renowned visiting artists will present
their work and visit with you in your studio space to give
advice on your artistic path.
STUDIO SPACE
All pre-college students have access to a personal studio
space, a valuable and unique feature of our program. Use
your space to work on class projects, create independent
work, get feedback from faculty and mentors, and showcase
your art throughout the program. Individual studios are
grouped together to create a strong sense of community,
so you can make great art and life-long friends.
COMMUNITY
Our international community of young artists includes
students with a variety of artmaking experience.
BOSTON
Home to more than 60 colleges and
universities and 56 museums, Boston is a
great place to live, study and play. Its diverse
and urban environment provides an exciting
atmosphere in which to engage with the
local art and culture scene. Students
have the option of living on campus in the
residence hall or commuting from home as
a day-only student.
MENTORSHIP
Our unusually low student to faculty ratio ensures that you will
get the attention you need as you develop your portfolio. You
will also be matched with a graduate student mentor from our
Master of Fine Arts program who, during regular meetings, will
help you to further cultivate your individual vision.
PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT
Whether or not you are looking to apply to art school,
you will gain the early professional skills necessary to
document and present your work. Our admissions staff
provides college application workshops and one-on-
one portfolio review sessions.
SMFA Pre-College students are saying great things about our program.
“I love the interdisciplinary aspect of the program…all the
teachers were phenomenal.”
“I liked being immersed in a really richly diverse and eccentric
group of people that I wouldn’t otherwise have met or been
exposed to.”
“The teachers were amazing. Before I came to this program I had
only worked with one medium and now I have learned so much
from each teacher.”
“I feel that this program has helped my confidence levels but also
showed me that I am capable of much more than I thought. I
have really learned to expand myself to different things and think
outside the box and find meaning in my work.”
“I’ve started thinking more about different kinds of art and how I
can incorporate art into my life.”
