Prayer for the Week:

Monday 18th January

Maths activities: Online lesson (zoom details to follow)

English (Activity 1): L.O. I can write predictions based on a book cover Use the video on the blog to help you with these lessons Look at the picture of the book cover. Draw a picture of the book cover. Answer the questions below in as much detail as you can giving all of the reasons you can think of What do you think this book will be about? Example:- I think this book will be about a baby penguin because….. I think this book may be about penguins because…. It might tell me about penguins and their babies because ….. What do you think will happen in this book? In this book the egg might….. In this book the baby penguin might….. I think this will happen because……

Religion: L.Q. What does it mean to belong to a church family? See the video and tasks on the school blog.

Reading (Activity 1): ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers Read the extract at the bottom in the appendix (you can get an adult to read it to you). Can you predict what you think the boy will do to help the penguin? Write your answers in your home learning books.

Try to start your sentence with “I think that” or “I wonder if…”.

English (Activity 2): L.O. I can use adjectives to describe a setting

Imagine you are in Antarctica. Look online at different images of Antarctica. Talk about these questions What can you see? How does it make you feel? What are you thinking? Can you list words and phrases to describe Antarctica? chilly, beautiful, glistening

Think about our different senses. Can you remember what our senses are? Watch this video to help you: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z9yycdm/articles/zxy987h (You can try the activity and quiz if you want to find out how much you have learnt!)

Investigation time! Find different items around your house (think carefully about ALL of your senses). For example, a sweet, a piece of chocolate, some crisps, a set of keys etc. Put all of the items in a bag and ask someone in your house to use their senses to guess the items. You might ask them to use their sense of smell to guess the chocolate or their sense of hearing to guess the set of keys. Take some pictures and email them to your class teacher so we can see what you have learnt.

Reading (Activity 2):

Have another read of the ‘Lost and Found’ extract. Can you think of any other words that could be used to describe how the penguin is feeling? Write them in a list in your home learning books. For example, disappointed, distraught… Phonics online lesson (details to follow)

English (Activity 3): L.O. I can write sentences using adjectives Read your adjectives from yesterday. Say aloud your adjectives. Can you say a sentences using your adjective? Example:- In Antarctica, the sky is blue and chilly. Once you have practised saying your sentences using adjectives, you are going to write them into your book. Remember your capital letters and full stops and your finger spaces! Example:- Beautiful snowflakes fall from the cold sky. The snow is soft and fluffy on the ground.

Reading (Activity 3): Have one more read of ‘Lost and Found’ (you should try and read it yourself this time). Try and answer these questions, using full sentences in your home learning book:

everywhere? c.) How do you think the boy felt when he saw the penguin?

For example: Miss Milligan has 8 cookies. She gives Miss Taylor 5 more. How many do they have altogether? What happens when you change the numbers around? For example, Miss Milligan has 5 cookies. She gives Miss Taylor 8 more. How many do they have altogether?

Give your word problem to someone in your house to see if they can solve it. Make sure you know the answer first!

English (Activity 5): L.O. I can write in role.

Imagine you are daddy penguin. You have been standing on the snow and ice taking care of your egg. How do you feel? Example:- I have been standing still on this egg for a really long time because I need to take care of it. My feet feel freezing cold on the snow but the egg is warm. It is beautiful in Antarctica and I like watching the pretty snowflakes falling from the sky.

Please send a picture of this writing to your class teachers by Friday 22nd January, so they

can take a look at your work.Science (Activity 3): LO: I can name different types of animal groups.
