Several of these meetings are conducted with our School Improvement Team. The SIP teamʼs purpose is to assess how we are doing and to set goals for the future. The school improvement process is used by schools throughout the State of Illinois. It is an ongoing, continuous process that provides us an opportunity to collect and analyze data, to reflect on our teaching and learning experiences, and to develop and refine goals for our school. On April 26th and May 18th, our school improvement team met to review our plan, celebrate our successes, and plan for the future. The team worked together to format our plan according to the template provided by the state. Currently, we have continued to refine our four goals from all forms of data collected.
• Improve student performance in the area of reading. • Improve student performance in the area of math. • Improve studentsʼ ability to communicate in writing. • Promote and communicate a positive, optimal learning environment for students, parents,
and staff. In addition to the NWEA MAP data we collect three times a year we also analyze state provided data as well. The state data we use for our School Improvement Plan is available on our website under the Interactive School Report Card link. The document is always changing in order to address areas for improvement. The current plan includes information through the 20010-2011 school year. While the focus is always on student improvement, the activities and professional development that support those goals change from year to year. For the past year the teachers of Prairieview, as well as the district, have been familiarizing themselves with the new Common Core learning standards that will drive instruction moving forward. They have spent time this year making sure our transition to the new standards is a seamless one. A lo largo del año escolar, el personal de Prairieview se reúne en varias configuraciones para revisar datos de los estudiantes, para celebrar los éxitos y establecer el plan de mejora. Varias de estas reuniones se llevan a cabo con nuestro Equipo de Mejoramiento Escolar (SIP). El propósito del equipo de SIP es evaluar lo que estamos haciendo y establecer metas para el futuro. El proceso de mejoramiento escolar es utilizado por todas las escuelas del Estado de Illinois. Es un proceso continuo, que nos brinda la oportunidad de recopilar y analizar datos, para reflexionar sobre nuestra enseñanza y experiencias de aprendizaje, a la misma vez desarrollamos y refinamos las metas de nuestra escuela.
El día 26 de abril y 18 de mayo, nuestro equipo de mejoramiento escolar se reunieron para examinar nuestro plan, celebrar nuestros éxitos, y el plan para el futuro. El equipo ha trabajado en conjunto para dar formato a nuestro plan de acuerdo con el modelo proporcionado por el Estado. Actualmente, hemos seguido refinando nuestros cuatro objetivos utilizando todas las formas de datos coleccionados.
• Mejorar las habilidades de los estudiantes en el área de la lectura. • Mejorar las habilidades de los estudiantes en el área de la matemáticas. • Mejorar las habilidades de los estudiantes en el área de la comunicación escrita. • Promover y difundir un ambiente positivo y de aprendizaje óptimo para los estudiantes,
padres y personal.
Además de los datos coleccionados de MAP en el examen de NWEA dado tres veces por año, también analizamos los datos proporcionados por el estado. Estos datos estatales que usamos para nuestro Plan de Mejora Escolar (SIP) están disponibles en nuestra pagina de Internet bajo el eslabón de Tarjeta Interactiva de Calificaciones Escolares. El documento siempre es cambiado anualmente a fin de dirigirse a las áreas para la mejora. El plan corriente incluye la información de el año escolar 20010-2011.
Mientras nuestro objetivo siempre está enfocado a la mejora del estudiante, las actividades y desarrollo profesional apoyan a este cambio de objetivos de año a año. Para el año pasado los maestros de Prairieview, así como el distrito, han estado familiarizándose con los nuevos estándares del estado llamado “Common Core” que nos guiaran en a avanzar en la instrucción. Los maestros han dedicado mucho tiempo para asegurase que nuestra transición a los nuevos estándares sea exitosa. Family Dinner Night
PTO Board elections for the 2012-2013 school year were held last Monday, and we are pleased to announce the following positions: Kristi James – President Kathy Stanislawski and Stephanie Arnopolin – Co Vice Presidents Kelly Murphy – Ways and Means Staci Parmer – Treasurer Tina Coleman – Secretary Notice anything? We don’t have any NEW members! We do still have a few open positions for next year – we would like a second Ways and Means chair and we need both a Volunteer Coordinator and someone to put together the Newsletter. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Being on the PTO is a really positive experience – you meet a lot of really great parents and best of all, you are helping our kids and our teachers get the resources they need to make Prairieview a really great place to learn. Please consider giving a year to the PTO! If you are interested in any of the open positions, please contact Kristi James at [email protected]. Finally, thank you to Beth McGowan and Jackie Galauskas, who have worked hard on the PTO Board this year (and for Beth, the past two years!) You will be missed! THANK YOU!!
Our last Family Dinner Night of the year is coming up at Dog ‘n Suds on Wednesday, May 23rd. We have some of our terrific Prairieview teachers coming out to help us celebrate the end of another great school year, so we hope you will join us!
The Foundation is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to bring in additional resources to enhance the educational experience offered to the kids in our district. In addition to offering classroom mini-grants, we have some exciting goals for the upcoming school year: • Provide the financial support necessary to expand the Hovercraft Project so that
ALL fifth grade students can work with a team to create their own hovercraft • Create an Academic Enrichment Scholarship Fund to assist families of students
participating in programs such as Science Olympiad and Scholastic Bowl • Continue to support Destination ImagiNation (DI) through the state tournament - All
D46 families and staff are invited to attend a DI informational meeting on 6/4/12 at 6:30PM at the Grayslake Public Library
You can support the Foundation and the environment at the same time right now by sending in the following items for recycling: empty juice pouches, used writing instruments (anything but crayons), and Elmerʼs glue containers. Families with children who will continue to attend CCSD 46 Please note the following information for Registration
Parents of students currently enrolled in CCSD 46 Pre-K and Grades K-7 are asked to attend Central Registration August 7th & 8th. The schedule for continuing student registration is posted below. May 10: Schools will send home Registration Information and a Registration Form listing the current address and contact information on record.
Note: Bus stop information is based on your last submitted address or daycare information. If you have moved or will be making changes to your childcare arrangements, you should submit a bus stop change to the Registrar’s Office as soon as possible. There is no guarantee that bus stop changes submitted after August 1st will be completed for the first week of school.
May 11 – June 28, 2012: Families will submit updated registration forms with or without payment to their home school offices. Registration fees paid on or before June 28 for students in grades 1-8* will receive a $25.00 discount. July 2 – July 26, 2012: School offices will continue to receive updated registration forms and registration fees. School offices will be closed Fridays over the summer. July 26, 2012: Parents will be mailed a letter providing updated bus stop information and directions for completing registration August 7th & 8th. Families who have completed registration will be asked to bring their July 26 Registration Information Sheet (colored paper) and a current residency proof that matches the address on the letter. Families who have not turned in registration forms will be asked to update contact information (on the form provided) and submit the updated form along with matching proof of residency. August 7th & 8th: All CCSD 46 families will need to visit Central Registration at Frederick School to complete the following steps:
1. Submit July 26 Registration Information Sheet (colored paper) and any missing paperwork. 2. Provide verification of address. You will not be allowed to complete the registration process without
a current Proof of Residency. 3. Kindergarten and all Pre-K, 2nd, and 6th graders should submit required health documents at this time.
If not, they will be asked to sign a Temporary Medical Enrollment Form. 4. Pay Registration Fees (if fees have not been paid previously). 5. Receive schedule, teacher assignments, and additional school information (Calendar, PTO, Lunch
Menus, Supply Lists, Welcome Letters, etc…). Registration Hours for August 7th & 8th (Individual school offices will be closed August 6-10)

Registrar’s Office Hours: Please check the district web site at http://www.d46.org for the registrar’s office location and hours or call (847)543-5809. Other information • According to Illinois State Law, busing is provided for students who meet either of the following
conditions: 1) Their residence is more than a mile and a half from their school. 2) They must cross a roadway that has been deemed hazardous by the State.
• Free/reduced lunch applications will be sent home the first day of school. Proof of residency for continuing students must be established with one (1) of the following documents. Documents must be current (issued within the last 60 days). ( ) Gas or electric bill ( ) Cable TV or credit card bill ( ) IL Public aid card
Attention Parents:
Don’t forget your health requirements! This year we are requiring that all physicals be turned in on or before the FIRST day of school in order for your child to attend school. 5th GRADE PARENTS TAKE NOTE: Your student will be required to have a physical examination in order to start 6th grade in August 2012.
