     Among the unique features of Prairie Gri lle is acollection of photographs taken by famous LIFEmagazine photographer Gordon Parks. In 1955, LIFEfeatured a far m family in Tama County, Iowa, in anissue exploring the role of American agriculture and foodproduction in the nation’s economy. Parks was thephotographer. The featured family was that of DeniseBruene Baker, the wife of Bart T. Baker, co-owner ofBEST WESTERN PLUS SteepleGate Inn and PrairieGrille Restaurant.

    Parks’ black and white photos helped inspire the name

    Prairie Grille and formed the basis for the entire concept. The col lection includes dramatic portraits of the Bruenefarmers, their life, and the legacy they share with manyother Midwesterners.

    BEST WESTERN PLUS SteepleGate Inn was built in1985 by Bart T. and Hamp Baker. Their parents foundedthe Best Western Frontier, in Clinton, Iowa. The FrontierHospitality Group, which includes Dan Huber, owns andoperates the BEST WESTERN PLUS SteepleGate Inn as
