    COURSE SURVEY PRACTICAL

    COURSE CODE ECG315

    LEVEL OF OPENNESS 3

    CATEGORY FULLY OPEN

    DEGREE OF OPEN-ENDED (%) 100

PERIOD OF ACTIVITY 3 WEEKS (WEEKS 12-14)

    TITLE MINI PROJECT

    PREAMBLE

    1.1 Introduction

The need for an open-ended laboratory activity is emphasized in enhancingindependent learning activities and inculcating creativity and innovation ofstudents.

This open-ended laboratory activities is created to provide a platform forstudents (as a group) to determine the objectives and scopes of thelaboratory assignment, identify the necessary apparatus and prepare stepby step methodology to carry out the task to address the given problem.

The group will be required to analyse all the technical data obtained andpresent them in a technical format.

    1.2 Traverses

Traverses are a series of established stations tied together by angle anddistance. A traverse is a form of control survey that is used in a wide varietyof engineering and property surveys. There are two types of traverse whichare commonly applied in surveying works. There are open and closedtraverses. Open traverse is begin at known point and end at unknown.Meanwhile closed traverse begins and ends at known points.

    1.3 Objective

The objective of this activity is:

To solve a given problem using the right survey equipments andsome traverse computation techniques.

    1.4 Learning Outcomes

At the end of the laboratory activities, students should be able to:1. To determine the proper procedures to conduct a traverses fieldwork.

    2. Able to plot a close loop traverse with a suitable scale.3. Able to calculate the properties in traverse computation.

    PROBLEM STATEMENT

    2.0 Scenario

There are many housing area in the Bandar Tun Abdul Razak Jengka. Itslocated nearby UiTM Pahang with difference density of houses. In this

practical, the group is required to examine the areas of these housingcommunities. Each group is free to choose one of the communities inBandar Tun Abdul Razak Jengka to manage a surveying field works todetermine the areas. The housing communities must contain at least 100houses of terrace or 50 houses of bungalow and semi D. This practicalwill be conducted in succession in 3 consecutive weeks.

    WAYS & MEANS

    3.1 Apparatus

The group must identify the availability of the chosen equipment in thesurvey practical before the right procedures can be identified.

    3.2 Procedures

The group is required to search for the relevant procedure to carry out thesurveying practical based on the available equipment in laboratory. Thedocument must be made ready for verification by the instructor before thesurveying practical activity commences.

    3.3 Data Acquisition

All data collected and observed during the surveying practical must betabulate in proper format for easy verification and presentation of thetechnical report.

    RESULTS

    4 Results, Analysis and Conclusion

The group is required to submit the technical report of the surveyingpractical results highlighting the equipment used, the proceduresundertaken for the practical, data acquisition process, analysis carried outand the relevancy of the set-out output to address the given problem. Theformat of the technical report is left to the creativity discretion of the group.

The report must be submitted 7 days after the completion of the surveying

    practical.

Each group will be given 30 minutes to present the findings in class duringthe 13thweek after project completed.
