We process information in two sensory channels.

If I read the text of a slide aloud verbatim, that information is processed simultaneously by the auditory channel and the visual channel, but the visual channel completes processing first and the brain is stressed while the auditory channel catches up, preventing learning rather than reinforcing it.
Images should complement text, not duplicate it.
